Sonus Faber Olympica Nova 2 (or 3–I don’t remember–there was bourbon there)
Next time I’m at this guy’s house I’m going to take pictures. His are dark brown. Think Riva boats.
I was really floored.
Should be Sonus Faber I guess.
That is a beautiful speaker.
I do have to say when I see expensive curves and expensive wood veneers like that I always wonder what the speaker WOULD sound like if the designers instead took all the money that they dumped into the enclosure and instead put all that money into the drivers.
cough…KEF R900
That was sorta my guess, but they didn’t look familiar.
Yup - appears to be SF Olympica Nova II. They look very dark on their website as well. Appear to have gone through some changes over time as far as color and how many “bands” of wood are going on.
They looked perfectly in place in these folks’ minimalist but gorgeous home. It’s good to be the king…
OK - before anyone else asks…“PAUL!!! Why can’t you make the FR-30’s look like this!!! And for less money???”
I deleted my previous post before someone got mad at me for posting that smut here.
Hmm… OK… I’m paraphrasing
Wife: it looks cheap, looks like a design to save cost and looks Chinese made, gold trim and those wooden legs are the main issue. They don’t look high-end, especially after when I mentioned to her the price of $15-$20k.
Daughter 1: Looks like an giant insect
Daughter 2: looks like a two big PCs stacking on each other
I agree with all of them, but D2 get’s the prize.
I don’t think my Wilson Yvettes are all that fun to look at. But at the moment they sound wonderful.
Job done.
I like them. Especially in any color except black.
After all this banter about the design aesthetic does anyone care how they might sound?
The yvettes are simply amazing speakers. I’ve aways been a fan of the saprinas but the yvettes are on such another level.
Someday I hope to get some used sabrinas…but they hold their value very well.
Very good choice with the yvettes.
right now, we can see them. but we can’t hear them. hence the discussion. that’s all.
Olympica Nova II:
I will say it’s a beautiful speaker.
I guess Sonus Faber were the first speakers looking like worthy furniture in a way most were attracted to.
‘Audio Excellence Canada’ is a great YouTube channel, they’re worth checking out…but, I wish the camera was more in focus during the video, here are some photos:
Feel all of that. They are Much Better in person.
And I’m saying this as a Major Doubter based on the crap pictures, the Prior Iterations, and prior to seeing them in Meatspace, and - Not in my Generally Wildly Imagined Role as PS Apologist.
I got into an argument with Darren when I saw them in person, as I worked for car designers most of my career. Some background.
It was Future Vehicle research stuff, so back in “the olden days” the designs were 4-6 years from the street, and once the US manufacturers had kinda/sorta caught up to the length of the Japanese makers’ design cycles, two-three-ish years.
So we were always looking at designs that were YEARS from fruition.
Never mind weeks or months, as we’re experiencing here.
And obviously they were Secret, so the vast majority (of the very small number) of people who saw and discussed the designs were employed by the company. The only people they had to talk about it with was - one another. They tended to talk themselves into stuff to some extent, as you can imagine.
There is some of that going on here, but (a very short) Time Will Tell if they are Right, and people are willing to buy the design, and/or the sound, of this heretofore NONEXISTENT speaker.
Just sayin’
Badbeef, you saw them in person, did you get to hear them?
If so what did you think?..which speaker did they most sound like(have the character of)?
I don’t really care about the looks, since speaker looks are usually more quickly iterated through from year to year - seemingly more in contrast to the tech from year to year(This is true imo for speakers only and opposite for electronics).
So im more interested in the tech and the sound as it stands today.
As such, I’m cold about how the new PS audio speakers are. I wish I Infinity self build speaker. Come fresh Poul. Infinity self-build kit from PS audio.
