Thanks, Pmotz. May I politely ask that we put this to bed? Rudolph, I think it’s time to let it go. Please.
Paradigm Persona 9Hs are recent semi-active speakers with powered midbass and subs as well as DSPs. Since they own Anthem, they have an advantage on the electronics front.
Every review of these beasts has been glowing! Check them out. All you need is a tube amp to power the beryllium tweeters and mid-range drives.
ATC also comes to mind as a company that has successfully added their amp tech, as an option,
to their speaker line. Good sounding actives.
As you can tell I feel it’s a petty it has been dropped.
I have liked a lot of the approaches that you introduced in your videos.
I can only say I listened, learned and did enjoy. Combined with my science education and experience I was and still am of the opinion they make sense.
Based on your information I have gone out and listened to the different options. Where PS Audio abandoned their initial path others have continued and do provide a very good sound level as well as I trust the FR80 will. But I got hooked To what I heard and saw.
No worries Rudolph, I get it and thank you. You’re the best.
Anybody that is willing to change the design of a product several times along the way due to the design goal(s) not being met should be commended not chastised.
PSA must have $500k or more in this project by now on their way to marketing the ultimate (for the money) loudspeaker. So far they have zero in sales, a lot of expense, and a whole lot of sideline critics. I say bravo to them for trying to optimize every link in the chain.
I have marketed a few mechanical devices in my life and many (most) times the end design is far away from the original napkin sketch. Sometimes you hit a home run but not often.
Hope you were/are wearing a nice shade of lipstick when you sent this reply
I am confused. Is this the image of the new FR-30, now FR-80?
That was the FR-30 @psalvet ; the new FR-80 images have yet to be released (to my knowledge).
Thanks. Any more images of the FR-30? Without grilles?
I happen to agree with Baldy but I can’t get out of my mind a vibrant Ruby Red.
It’s actually lime green
Just a few more design tweaks, and it will be perfect!
D’oah!
Here you go guys …a “genuwine” real deeel sneak peak at what ole uncle
Pauley has been up to…should be very revelatory…high performance…
Naw man they aren’t state of the art like the grammophone
Not even close…grammophone doesn’t even need preamps or amplifiers
or cables or power regenerators or dacs…fully integrated …
and fully analogue!!!
They are the best I ever heard. And indeed with 107 dB they need very little amplification, the 2 active 10” subwoofer drivers per speaker (18 Hz) are 1000 W powered each. With DSP Room correction. The passive Mid and High Horn have the most simplistic crossover, the acoustic compartment before the horns are designed that the acoustically match already.
When I heard them, they were driven by an Octave tube amp with T+A SACD / streamer as source.
They might sound good but they are butt ugly. I wouldnt’ be able to get them in the driveway let alone the house.
Ugly? The colors I chose, yes. I just tried to match @davida’s gramophone a bit.
Off course everybody has his own taste. To my taste, put them in a large room and they look cool. You can choose between 4 enclosure colors and 11 horn colors.
The issue with these horn speakers is:
The speaker enclosures are already large and the mid horn protrudes rather far out to the front and side, yet it is all proportional.
But you need at least 2.5 m ~ 8 ft listening distance and my living room is too small for that.
They need a large room. But they sound really good.
