Snowmass 3.0.5 vs. 3.0.6

Hey Scott is that the only fix in 3.06 or are there other changes as well, but the usb functionality with Linux being the main one?

To my knowledge that is pretty much the only fix in 3.06, though there might be some other small bug fixes in there.

I wonder how it sounds compared to other snowmass releases…

Thank you for your answer to my question.

Always an interesting question.

We have a number of members with excellent ears. They will soon tell us what they hear.

I feel a poll coming on soon

You put a smile on my face. Thanks.

Pre-Release POLL: DS Sr. owners, do you plan to demo Snowmass v3.06, or are you content with your current DS OS version?

  • I plan to demo v3.06.
  • I do not plan to demo v3.06 because I am content with my current DS OS version.
  • It will depend on reviews from others as to how v3.06 affects sound quality and/or functionality.

Where is it?

I thought it was supposed to be released yesterday but I don’t see it under current product downloads. So far I’ve found V3.0.0 to be my favorite for sound quality but then I tend to be a contrarian…

I think they were talking about a new Bridge update so maybe they are seeing if the two play nicely together before releasing?

Maybe they saw, and it didn’t

I’m so confused that I’m just gonna stay with Redcloud.:face_with_head_bandage:

Just go with whatever version of Snowmass is officially available. I think the improvement is worth it.

I liked Redcloud too until I heard Snowmass! The difference is not subtle! If you don’t want to try the later versions which were only PIC code changes than just use 3.0.0

I think Snowmass was a game changer for ps audio due to the very low noise levels it now emits. In the past, if they wanted to do sub release (pic change) they only had two question to answer before release.

  1. Does the new functional requirement work?: yes/no
  2. Does everything else still work?: yes/no

Now they have another important question to ask
3. Does it sound as good as previous sub releases?: yes/no

If not, then it’s not easy to resolve as I don’t believe you can predict sound quality with pic code changes due to the noise patterns it creates, 3.0.2 is classic example that would fail Q3 in my view.

This is something that Ted and others are going to have to fully understand and cater for before they release their new $20K (guess) dac in the near future.

20K, I hope not. No DAC is worth 20K, IMO. Speakers yes, but a DAC…no.

If it’s 12K or under, I maybe a player, but over. I’m out

Not something I would consider either!

The tech changes to often for that kinda investment. 20K today, 3 years later 6K used ouch

I want to make it clear I don’t know the price in any way of the new dac, just making a point
