I downloaded 3.06 yesterday with some hope that the bug was fixed but no luck. After loading it to my DS it started to play but lost the sound in a few minutes just as in the past.
You do not need a bridge installed to run 3.06 Snowmass. i do not have a bridge in my Direcstream DAC.
You do not, that is correct. And 3.06 works fine with or without a Bridge.
Mr. Takeda, I am sorry you could not load 3.06. There might be something wrong with the way your files are loaded onto the SD card.
We can try again, or Hori-San can be contacted as well.
If you heard 3.0.6 the first time I installed it, you would know it’s not suggestion — it was unlistenable!
My expectation was that 3.0.6 would be 3.0.0 with some modification in sound, but not a negative one. Something was definitely amiss with the first two installs.
I will admit though that the only reason it tried it a third time was because someone had done it here and was happily surprised at the result.
And just as an aside, going back to 3.0.0 each time required me to go back to Torrey’s before reloading 3.0.0.
Something wrong going on there. You should be able to swap back and fourth without going back to Torreys
Thanks Paul and others. I tried it with two SD cards but no luck. I do not understand how it can go wrong while I have no problem in loading 3.0.
Have you tried reformatting your SD cards with SD Memory Card Formatter? I had an issue recently with rolling back from v3.0.6 to v3.0.0. I reformatted my SD card with this free program and on the next attempt I was able to install v3.0.0.
Might also be worth trying a different brand of SD card (if they are both the same and even if not). When using SD cards with cameras I’ve found they can be quite finicky and even with good brands like sandisk I’ve had two cards fail close together.
Another option may be to try flashing back to an earlier firmware than 3.00 (e.g. Redcloud and then trying 3.06) assuming you haven’t done that already.
Thanks. Per your suggestion I tried a new card which is 64g and may not be the right one. The results was it did not even load to DS at all. Before that I tried 2g which I used to load 3.0 successfully. And also 4g which came with P15 I recently bought. Either of then did not work. It loaded 3.06 but the sound stopped coming.
Just curious because you write “It loaded 3.06 but the sound stopped coming”
Are you using USB direct into the DS?
Yes, 64gB is too big for the unit. Can you try a new 2gB ?
That’s very odd. Not sure what else you can do.
It’s nearly impossible to find 2 GB cards anymore. Even 4GB are scarce, or significantly more expensive than 8’s or 16’s if you can find them.
I’ve been using 8GB cards, but always a “virgin” new one that I put through a full format before using it for updates (just in case). Never had an issue updating the DSD, and only one hiccup updating the DMP where the update stalled - but after a cold shutdown the second try went off flawlessly.
2GB SD cards are readily available at Amazon and other sources.
I bought a shed load of 8gb scandisk cards off amazon uk and they work fine
Note that on some older versions of boot loader you must use a 2GB SD card. When I installed my DS DAC kit in my PWD I had this issue.
I use a different approach. I download and store each update on my iMac. I have 6 4GB cards that I re-use in rotation when a new update appears, erasing the contents of the card loaded with the oldest update. Thus I’m using cards I’ve proven work OK. I do not re-format the cards before loading the new update. I erase the old files and (very important on a mac) delete the trash before copying the new code to the SD card. I’ve been doing this since Yale Final in 2015 without any problems.
Yes it is direct USB connection to DS.
Ok I will try to get another 2gb card.
I do the same way to use 2g card. Erase it and load a new. But for 3.06 it does not work as all past updates.
