Thats exacly what I do. And I do not tell anybody if he lets his device on or not. I just explain why I shut it down. But every time I reboot the DSD, the volume is at 50. That’s what I’m talking about (among other things). Why can not the volume simply remain at the set level as ist was in Redcloud? Then I do not need to justify why I shut off the device. And you would not have to ask me why I did not just turn it off.
I can see how that would be an annoyance should one choose to always power off in the back and the volume goes back to 50.
Maybe Paul, Ted, and Crew can fix that in the future.

If it’s just a number why can’t it be 100 as a default?
Ron
The last volume setting you have is the default, but there have been bridge related bugs that have, at times, changed the volume to, say, 50. In the past there also were some bugs that the software update process itself might stomp on things like the volume, balance, etc. I haven’t seen any reports of that in Snowmass yet.
Received my SD Card with Snowmass in the mail today… Installation was “glitchless”. I listened for about an hour; liked what I heard; and put it on continuous play for about two hours. Did not really discern a startling improvement in the first hour…at least not yet, but it definitely did not sound inferior to Red Cloud. Going back upstairs to the man cave now for some more critical listening…
Believe me, I’ve racked my brain trying to think of a workaround for the fade-in issue such letting the opening track play up to the point of the arrow symbol changing to the pause symbol followed by stopping and restarting playback. Nothing so far works.
And I said the issue is entirely related to Snowmass because it only showed up in my system after I uploaded Snowmass. I see what you’re saying about Snowmass just possibly revealing a problem that already existed upstream from the DAC.
And I never said the fade-in happens to me anywhere other than at the start of a track. I was responding to a previous poster who had that happen to them.
Do you have transcoding possibilities at your source?
Not ideal, but your problem would be gone.
It is a bridge firmware thing. If I downgrade to 3.5.1, the volume is at is was after a restart. If i update to 3.6.17 the volume is allways rewindet to 50. I switched twice to be sure.
I recognized this volume=50 thing, too…in my case it’s just the display in Jriver in most cases…the level is mostly still 100 anyway
Not sure what to do. After the Snowmass update my Bridge II is not showing up in my DirectStream Sr. Its showing 0.0.0 for the version and wont get a link with my network.
Sorry, I don’t know what transcoding is. My source is the DMP. The issues it has are very well known and discussed.
Reboot your DS using the rear toggle switch. Should fix the issue …
Ok.
On the fly transcoding means that you may convert different formats to the format of choice before it is sent to the DAC.
Tried it. Done that a few time
But the fade-in at the start of play is happening now with each disc I put into the player as I go from one Redbook CD to the next and to the next, etc. All the same format.
The need for converting different formats shouldn’t apply to this situation, right?
Some sure have bizarre behavior. FTR mine never had gone back to 50 upon reboot and always - Snowmass included - boots up where I have it set. No issues with my screen either. I do, and have always, left it fully on with screen blanked.
Very odd stuff here and there.
Since my tubes run about 300 watts in my preamp and 700 watts idling when up and running 30 watts doesn’t get my hair in a ruffle.
As the dinosaurs were kind enough to die for me to enjoy fossil fuels, I have a moral duty to burn up as much of it as I can.
mine also starts up at 50 now even though i set it to 100
LOL! BTW, it was marine animals and marine organic matter that created all that oil… not the big guys.
