v2 sounds the same as v1. I like SM a lot, particularly the Fixed option which I set to 100, and control the volume through my pre-amp which keeps last volume setting.
Thanks guys. So if the volume 50 setting upon power up doesn’t bother me, should I still install Snowmass V2 on my DS?
Nope. It fixed the Bridge II update issue but if you don’t have one or have updated it already…no reason to load v2 that I’m aware of.
In addition to the volume, further bugfixes have been made. Paul explains this at the very beginning of this thread. For me there is no reason not to do the update. And there is nothing to be afraid of. The thing is done in 5 minutes.
I have not updated to V2 either. I don’t own the bridge and my volume control settings with V1 are just fine. No other bug issues listed by Paul. So as the saying goes…“If it ain’t broke…don’t fix it”
Same here. Still running on V1. 4 weeks today and sounding wonderful!
+1. No bridge. No volume control need.
The fact that Snowmass V2 is the only version on the web site now means that, moving forward, it will be the supported version of Snowmass, it would seem logical to upgrade to it. It does fix some bugs and add a few features. If you report a problem to Support with Snowmass, the first they will do is have you upgrade to the latest version (V2). So you might as well get there now since the sound quality is no different and the new “features” don’t take away from you currently have.
Hey. To be clear - I’m not telling anyone what to do. I also highly doubt I will be reporting any problems. If I did have a problem - of course I’d go to v2 and certainly wouldn’t bother support until I did and verified the issue. But I have no problems.
POLL: For DS Sr. owners who have Snowmass, which of the following best describes you?
- I installed V1 followed by V2.
- I installed V1 and plan to install V2.
- I installed V1 and plan to stick with it.
- I skipped V1 and installed V2.
- I installed V2 and then switched to V1.
- I installed V2 and plan to switch to V1.

Hi Mike,
If the bridge 1 is at fault, I might be worth a try to unplug it, then make the upgrade to Snowmass V2, then plug back the bridge…
I’ll try this weekend and let you know.
Otherwise Any chance i can find the V1 somewhere ?
Thx
Regards
François
Boy it took me a while to really like SnowMass in my system, so I’m sticking to Version 1 for now, don’t want to repeat that cycle. Thanks to the nice PS Audio team I did receive a copy of Version 2 yesterday in the mail.
Tony just FYI mine is not doing that. It’s set to variable and 100 and when I power up it is still the same.
I kind of feel the same way. And, since it took three loads of SM MK I to get the new software to take, I am hesitant to fix what is not broken. Since I bought the SM firmware on a SD from the mother ship, I guess I’ll be getting one in the mail to tempt me.

Really? SnowmassV2? Power up from the back toggle or the front?
Hi Francois,
If you could let me know if resetting the bridge resolves the problem that would be helpful. If it doesn’t, rest assured that Snowmass V1 works fine with Bridge 1 and also sounds fabulous. I’m glad I kept a copy of the files because PSA have removed them from the website after publishing V2. If you need them, let me know.
Best Regards,
Mike

I think snowmass has less attack than Red Cloud.
Is it possible to transform redcloud and snowmass in filters to select in display instead to install or uninstall every time you want to hear each one?
Unfortunately no, it is not possible.
Does this mean you succeeded in installing Snowmass? See, here.
I leve power button on on back in the on position, I power on and off with remote, volume stays at 100% and at the variable setting. And when I turn it off and back on nothing has changed.
