Swiss Digital Fuse Box, the fuse reinvented

I’m about 80 hours in with my second SDFB and really enjoying it. An hour or so ago I thought "do I have the Super Sluggo in my SEWE300B (where I installed the new SDFB) in the right direction? Well. . . I reversed it and like the sound even MORE.

The 4N silver sluggos arrived today the Audio Magic M-2 yesterday and it sounds great. Let the fun begin in 5 days for head to head P-20 competition after things have aged.

Correct me if I am wrong, “Mr. V” - you don’t have a SDFB to include in the experimental mix yet, do you?

That’s correct i am trying to determine if pursuing it shows any merit. I will be relying on the P20 to do its job snd shut down any massive current draw in the interim. So I am really only risking hardware not safety.

My Magic 8 ball when questioned whether you would buy an SDFB answered “Yes, Definitely,”

I have a silver Sluggo coming too. . . but I’m loving the sound with two High Purity Copper Sluggos so much I may not upset the apple cart by trying it in the near future. I may spring for a Graphene one that Mark says may be available next week.

Understood, and I get it.

If you end up thinking there is something to the metal-rod-in-lieu-of-a-fuse, in terms of sound quality, I would really be interested in whether adding the SDFB to the mix (also serving the P20) has a neutral or some other impact on the sound quality.

Cheers.

So now I have swapped Sluggos and have a High Purity Copper Sluggo in both SDFBs.

Wow. The bass is back! And it all just sounds so good. I think this is the right combo for my system. Oomph and yet a relaxed presentation with plenty of detail.

These devices and bits of metal are something else!

The silver Sluggo arrived from China. I couldn’t resist putting it into the P15 in place of the High Purity Copper Sluggo.

Interesting results. A bit more dynamic, perhaps a bit more veiled, certainly not harsh or bright. . .so far.

These Sluggos are more fun than tube rolling, and tube rolling is my drug of choice.

When I left home a few days ago. I had the rhodium/silver sluggo in for a few days, and I noticed on the third day the SQ really improved. I didn’t have time to put back the HP Copper to compare, but I will probably have a hard time in selecting a favorite.

Leave your silver in for a couple of more days and the veil should be gone.

Yes, the veil is mostly gone now after just a few hours of play. I’m not sure ultimately I’ll prefer this to the High Purity Copper, but we’ll see, I’m leaving it in probably through the weekend.

Hi @lonson
Can you confirm which silver sluggos you’re using - solid or hollow? Also, just confirming that the high purity copper sluggos are gold immersed?

I’m tempted!!

Seems a good deal for first buyers

Cheers

Phil

It’s a hollow silver slug that is lathed to look like a fuse (i.e. it has wider end caps and a narrower center portion).

The Super Sluggos I have I bought from the SDFB supplier (Swiss Digital Fuse Box – Vera-Fi Audio LLC) and it is described as high purity copper with gold immersion. I also have two High Purity Copper Sluggos (which are just copper, no gold whatsoever).

Only the hollow silver slug with the appearance of a real fuse came from aliexpress.com, first time I ever used that site.

I suppose it wouldn’t be that hard to buy a furnace that would allow you to melt metal and use it to mix your favorite metals together to test theories. I hope you don’t go there.

Please.

I slipped a little cut piece of the 3M material in the center of the hollow silver Sluggo Yes, I wasn’t going to tweak this Sluggo but I did.

Certainly had an effect on frequency balance, immediately darkening and muddying it, that is clearing up as I play a disc. (Everything changes when the system is shut down and then powered back up).

Not sure I like it after adjusting with my ZROCK2 but we’ll see.

Edit to add: I put the High Purity Copper Sluggo back in the P15. At least for now I like it best in that component.

Absolute madness.

Copper Sluggo.

This is the way.

How many others have you tried?

I rolled the driver tubes for the SEWE300B and put the silver back in and it sounds quite good. Both this Copper Sluggo and the silver need more time before they are settled in.

None. LOL. Too lazy to try the brass Sluggo Mark also sent along…

I just think copper makes the most sense due to its electrical properties.

If you find a different metal sounds better, I would be very interested in knowing about it.

Cheers.

The way my system is. . . things are different and not necessarily better…all good. Different tubes will yield different results with the SDFB.

My cabling has Ohno copper and Ohno silver, so electrically each has affinity.

Sounds like trying to herd cats or snakes to me. I can barely keep track of non-variables.
