Synergistic Research ORANGE Quantum Fuse Vs Blue Fuse

Thanks

This is the dimension. Otherwise known as ā€˜small’ as there is a ā€˜large’ standard as well.

I don’t believe any ā€˜current’ PS Audio gear uses anything but small 5x20 fuses.

Thanks, that’s exactly the info I needed!

Glad to help. If you go with a SR fuse, typically they sound best with the S towards the back and the R pointing into the device. Start there and flip it after a couple weeks and you should be able to hear the difference without strain.

I don’t know if this question has been answered somewhere in this thread. Can someone tell me which direction the current flows through the fuse holder in a Power Plant?

I have a P3 and would like to orient the Orange fuse properly when it arrives.

My guess is it is like the Blue fuse that I use in the P15–current flows from the back of the fuse holder into the regenerator. So I have the S in the back of the fuse holder. That’s the way that sounds correct to me, and to the person I purchased the fuse from.

I replaced the fuse in my P12 with a orange fuse. After about three weeks I went back to the stock fuse to hear the difference. As has been discussed many times, the orange fuse sounds much better.
My question is, are more orange fuses installed in my PRE, DAC and my amps going to improve the sound even more given that the P12 is already effecting all the pieces in my system?

In my opinion, yes. I slowly replaced all my stock fuses with aftermarket fuses (most all are Audio Magic) and with each replacement there was a subtle improvement.

Hey Kline,

Yes, adding more oranges to you pre and amp will contribute even more…the dac idk…

In my system it was reverse order…what caught my attention was the fuse upgrade to
my Parasound A21 power amp…that was the ā€œzingerā€ that caught my attention…

So the rest followed …P12 then my preamp…the hard part was enduring the lengthy
burn in time…but wow…the synergy in those 3 units is no small thing…

As fyi the 2 315ma fuses on my Emotiva XSP1 gen 2 blew. The night before I found out they
blew…I had enjoyed an amazing night of music…

Long story short found out it was ok to up the ma rating so I went with 500ma this time…
System is sounding superb…

In the in between time while waiting for my new orange fuses to arrive I put the stock fuses
back in. The difference was like going from a well recorded high definition sacd to a standard
cd!! The orange fuses are way way ahead of stock…

So go ahead get your oranges…just that on the dac idk
I run Oppo 205.

I get the improvement from a stock fuse to a better one from SR, HiFi, Audio Magic. I have a full PS BHK rig with SR Blue and love the change. A switch from Blue to Orange or best
AM is 16 fuses, a big investment. Worth it?

Great question…On my Parasound A21 poweer amp I only upgraded the external
mains fuse and not the 4 rail fuses. Perhaps there are gains to be had there.

My system is playng so well…that foregoing the rails fuses on my amp is
the best choice for me. Saves a lot of cash to boot as well…someting to think
about.

However ascertaining the correct directional placement on 4 fuses is more than
I care to chew on at this time. Plus I don’t care to hazard going inside my power
amp’s internals… it could be a shocking riveting experience …

Yes going from blue to orange is worth it…Better body more detail and prat…

I changed the rail fuses last as I thought it would be the smallest improvement. What I remember is that it was equal or greater than the main…contrary to logic, Paul’s opinion, etc.
Death by tweeting.

Meant tweaking. :grimacing:

Thanks!

So then you’re saying that the current flows in the opposite direction than it does on McIntosh components (pictured here).

These SR fuses sometimes blows prematurely! I had two SR Blues 1 amp fuses blow in my server a while back! Now I have two SR Orange 1 amp fuses blow, so I put in a couple of SR Oranges 1.6 amp fuses and hope my server doesn’t blow. If it does, I’ll just get a different server, or maybe it’s the fuse. I heard SR fuses tend to be a bit easy to blow for some reason.
I really should just go to the Audio Magic Ultimate Premier Beeswax instead since I compared one with a SR Orange in my regenerator and the Beeswax is no doubt much better than the Orange!
I cut opened an Orange and there’s a very fine wire in the middle with some pixie dust surrounds it!

I am ready to try the orange fuse in my DSsr but with the reports of them blowing should or could I use the 1.25a instead of the 1 amp without any worry.

Thank you

Might want to double check with the SR Orange fuse dealer about
moving up in value…

With my Emotiva XSP1 Gen2 pre amp, I upped from 315ma to 500ma.
The Cable Company tech advisor explained the tolerances
allowable for protection to be effective…that in my case
acceptable.

Your concern is real…and worthwhile checking up on this
aspect.
