Synergistic Research ORANGE Quantum Fuse Vs Blue Fuse

Ok, Davida, here comes a clarification question, not a naive one :wink:. If I opened my BHK DAC Sr, looking at the fuse holder/block, with the fuse in, the united powered up, use the pen, I assume I can determine the hot side of the fuse holder/block, but how do I determine whether the fuse is inserted in the right direction, since SR fuse does not have a direction sign on it? Thanks.

Yes sir …the pen will light up and or give tone…on the hot side…
Synergstic Research marked the blue fuse with letters SR on large fuse and the S on smaller fuse…that should be inserted into the hot part of fuse holder…

On orange fuse the S on the leftward side of fuse should go into
the hot side of fuse holder

Just look at the label

This is frustrating lol. Why doesn’t SR just put an arrow. $160 per fuse seems like they can print a different damn sticker. Truly frustrating.

I just changed the BHK rail fuses to be SR ā€œbackwardsā€ the opposite of what you had Written initially Zheng and it seems to be better. This after ~60-70 hrs of break in the opposite direction

Do you have the fuses on your BHK all in the same direction?

I’m about to add the other two fuses and plan to just keep everything at the same orientation.

It sure would make a lot of sense for SR to include hot side indicator
that would easily recognizable…perhaps an oversight on their part

Yes, but I cheated a little. I did the testing carefully for the fuses in my DACSr and BHK Pre, for the four small fuses in my BHK 300 amp, I changed the directions together, I didn’t bother to test them one by one. I need to confirm, I sort of remember all the fuses having S close to the fuse holder cap, i.e., S to R is from back to front. I am anxious to hear from Paul the direction of the incoming AC across the fuse holder.

Of course what really confuses things is conventional current flows in the opposite direction of the charged particles. :slight_smile:

YES! I shouldn’t be on these threads because they drive me crazy. Unless this fuse is providing some intended (unintended?) rectification there should be no direction with a full-wave rectified power supply.

EDIT: It also negates the debate whether you’re talking about electron or ā€œholeā€ flow.

Elk …yes the issue is that the labeling on the fuse is not clear…I myself had to dig around to find the answer on the labeling that would indicate the direction the fuse should be oriented related to the hotspot on the fuseblock…
The SR pictures of the fuses leave a lot to be desired regarding which end of the fuse should be installed at the hotspot…and for the price they are asking …it should be made a lot clearer.

Some folk may not hear a difference but with my system the difference
is not subtle by any means

It is known ac does flow in both directions but what is overlooked is
yet wall connections power cord connections to the wall are oriented
specifically…

Years ago if you reversed a wall plug you could wind up getting the daylights shocked out of you or into you…

Do you think AC has to consult a flow diagram. :smile:
