Can someone explain to me how these fuses can affect your systems sound with this installed in a PS3? I can understand maybe a component but can’t understand how it can affect sound in a power supplier.
Since no one had anything to offer I will post some results. I acquired a used P3 and installed into my system. I heard an improved resolution out of a black background. Much blacker that the power filters I was using. I listened for a while then installed the purple fuse. I have no idea if it’s in there in the correct orientation. I could hear an immediate improvement in voice clarity with singers, especially female singers. Clearer and crispier. I now have great sounding music coming out of a very black background. The fuse does make a difference but I can’t answer if it’s worth the price, although they are coming down in price.
My issue with fuses is are they as stable as OEM fuses? Id really be pissed off if I put one in my Mark Levinson no.585.5 and it didn’t protect the amp
Or if they quit working for no apparent reason, the manufacturer will claim they did their job and saved your gear. Then they tell you it’s time to buy another ridiculously expensive one.
The most expensive fuse I ever bought lasted less than a year and is the only fuse to quit working in my system in decades (pretty sure it “blew itself”).
I’ve put HiFi Tuning fuses in all my gear. Have run them for 3+ years without any issues. I cannot say that I noticed any profound difference. I’ll also add that I bought the fuses at a very good discount so it doesn’t feel like much of a waste of money anyway.
I cannot explain why different fuses will affect the sound of a component just like I cannot explain why different power cables would make such a difference in the SQ of my system. But they do.
The purple fuse was the least effective one in my system in fact, AM M-1 was better, but M-2 is my current favorite. If you do a search there were quite a few threads on fuse discussions here.
If expensive fuses in my system were blowing I’d be mad. I have 10 Orange and Purples. So far, none have blown. In 50 years of audiophilia only 1-2 cheap fuses have fried. So, it is a concern, but I have not had a problem. And collectively they sound better.
I’ve never had a fuse blow in 30+ years. But my equipment has at least been plugged into aan Ultimate Outlet and has been surge protected.
The most I can afford at the moment are SR purple fuses in all of my components. My system sounds nice and I am not particularly interested in spending $600 US plus for a fuse. I thought $140 a fuse to be bold and a good deal at the time when the purple fuse was new and still $200 regular price.
