System Photos!

Well as I said, I just basically plopped them in the room yesterday evening, right before my brothers showed up. So I didn’t get to mess with them much. That’s what today will be all about.

I think your precautions for the cats are wise. New Maggies take a while to gas off, as even your nose should tell you. The cats are probably more sensitive, but when the Maggies are cleaned the cats may resume their curious ways.

As for the toe-in, remember the manual insists that the tweeter be at least an inch further from your ears than the woofer. It doesn’t sound like much, but a little geometry will convince you otherwise. Just to get the tweeter (essentially the right edge of the speaker when the tweeters are inside) equidistant from the woofer (essentially the middle of the speaker) requires a huge toe-in, and that extra inch also requires a significant further turn. (The geometry is not so bad when the tweeters are on the outside, but I believe most Maggie owners prefer the tweeters on the inside to improve focus, as focus is already not the strongpoint of these speakers).

Maggies are virtually unique in that their drivers are spread horizontally; almost all other speakers have some kind of vertical array.

The Ma

This is why my cats (all 19 of them) are banned from the audio room. I may bring one in with me once in a while, but only under strict supervision. It’s more the cats that I’m concerned with than any of the gear. Too many places for them to get in and hurt themselves. The gear is replaceable, the cats are not.

Yes, to a degree a wall mount relies on the wall and its isolation from external excitation. Thus a plaster over lathe 2"x6" construction utilizing an interior wall could be preferred. In my experience a 2"x 4" exterior wall will flex as you note. I do not doubt that placing the table on a wall shelf with added mass may influence the sound, possibly for the better as in @kcleveland123’s case. I have a Rega P8 on a mass loaded equipment stand that works surprisingly well. The stand itself is nothing special IMO, but the sound is fine. Summing up the solution is situational and system specific.
I am glad the approach taken by @kcleveland1233 works for their situation. Just surprised how much additional isolation effort was necessary to achieve the desired results.

I had considered a wall mount and was immediately shot down. For this application, Rega P8, it would have been on an interior 2"x 4" sheet rock wall, so the approach, by itself, may not have been entirely successful. YMMV.

When I had my Maggie 20.7’s toe-in was critical to time-align them to the seating position, try to get the tweeter(whether in or out) to be in concert or just slightly behind the bass/mid panels. One thing you also have to account for is the rear sound wave as it is as strong as the front wave.
Awesome speakers. Have fun!

Are you sure you have 19 cats?

Very sure. 19 cats, all indoor, most special needs. Only adopt cats that are elderly, or deemed unadaptable by the shelter we work with. And yes, I know all of them and they all have names.

Yeah, @audiojan, Let’s see some empirical evidence of the total number of cats (otherwise “it did not happen”)

Would it need to include measurements from ASR?

No. But your counting device needs to be calibrated using a generally-recognized standard and calibration protocol; preferably one that is certified by an international governing body.

After all, we don’t want any 1/2 or 3/4 cats “running around” (no insensitivity meant w/r/t to any of your special needs cats that might not actually be “whole” to begin with ).

Cheers.

Exceedingly kind of you. :+1:

Been playing with positioning all day yesterday and today. These massive Maggies (massive for this room anyway) are doing the incredible disappearing act, and I’ve got the subs integrated perfectly. Solid center image, all of the bass benefits from the Maggies, and getting that low end foundation from 45Hz on down from the subs. Man, I’m really digging this!

Lookin’ good!

How far are your ears from the mid-panel of each speaker?

Curiously yours.

Thank you!

From mid-panel to mid-panel, they’re 109". From mid-panel to my ears it’s 114". That was in part from me scooting the listening seat up about 6".

Pretty close, I think that’s a good thing.

I’d love to be a fly on the wall during that setup, bet it sounds fantastic. I want some Maggies at some point when I have a bigger space.

I don’t know if you have swapped the high frequency diaphragms from outside to inside. One will work better in the room, often with the HF intersecting just before the listener. Getting them off the floor does wonders as well.
Both tweaks are well documented.
@SpyderTracks, I have a pair of 1.7’s for $1,800. if you want to get that Maggie groove going.

I’ve swapped them multiple times throughout the weekend. Tweeters on the outside sound best in this room.

I plan getting riser stands for them as well as Cardas tweeter jumpers.

Years ago when I have the MGLR-1’s, Kimber made jumpers for Maggies, but doesn’t look like they do anymore. I had a pair.

Man, I would absolutely love to, I’ve been rather greedy since Christmas, bought myself a rediculous 49" monitor, a handful of pre order rather special boxsets and a full tube compliment, I’m rather exponged for a while
I’m also UK side, so import rates affect it somewhat, otherwise, I’d quickly sell some unessentials like nephews and nieces to afford them!

But thank you very much for the offer, it’s much appreciated.
