Roon ROCK Server Arrived.
Migrating FLAC now from my NAS.
Great to have the core off the PC.
Linn, Harbeth and Icepower AS1200 for amplification. Currently happy with the sound after using Paul’s guide.
Hey mycrowave…
How about Focal Aria 948s with Red Dawns…'xactly what my system
is using…results…very nuanced detailed able to deliver all
that you like in sound quality and staging… never bright…
Same thing was said about Focal speakers…mine are keepers.
The burn in time can be lengthy…but well worth the final results…
Strong recommend…Using full loom…
Look at my profile, you will see my gear listed…
Best wishes
I remember extensive comparisons between red dawn and blue heaven from my past (30 years ago). Also between them and other cables.
The Nordost were fascinating. If one can live with their analytic and somehow thinned out character in the midrange, they are very controlled in bass and extremely fast, resolving and detailled otherwise compared to the rest in that price range. They just are no good basis for a balanced setup imo, because one has to compensate for them elsewhere, which may lead to problems in case of later changes of equipment. Although they might have changed in their design somehow since then, I assume they held their basic character.
Just my experience.
I just tried OLDER Blue Heaven with my Sopra 2. I did not like. Went back to copper. But I have read the newer version are much better. I have zero experience with them.
Hey jazznut…
In my system the Red Dawns don’t come off that way at all…
and I’m running Focal Arias which have been said to be bright.
Maybe I’m just very fortunate with my system
Best wishes
If they really fit into a current setup, they can definitely be a Best Buy. One just has to be honest with oneself. I remember that I tended to ignore the one or other negative character due to the superiority in others.
Great! As I said, if it fits, it can be (blue) heaven or red…
Thanks for the added info @davida I foresee some red dawn cables in my future
mycrowave…the interesting thing about the Red Dawns
is that their price/ft is quite reasonable given the features
they have…
Best wishes
When the time comes I plan to compare them to the iconoclast cables. This will probably happen in the fall of this year.
Beautiful room. Love the penguin.
The Infinity Modulus speakers are connected again. Driven by the BHK Pre & M1200’s using balanced XLR cables between pre & power amps. The Infinity crossover box only accepts RCA connectors, so am bypassing the control box and running the satellites full range, and being very careful with volume level to not overdrive the 4.5" woofers. Instead of using the Infinity sub (since not using the control box) am using two SVS SB3000’s instead. The 2 SVS subs seem to be taking away one of the weaknesses of the Modulus, which is their weak upper bass. Time will tell if that initial impression is correct or not. The tweeters are located 6’-9" out into the room and 4’-6" away from the side walls.
Gotta LOV a Lab that tosses one down once in a while !!
Mellow yellow, I like it!
I’m new here and here’s mine:
Stella Phono Preamp, Technics SP10/Garrard 301
Esoteric K01X SACD Player, Antelope 10M
DIY tube preamp, Placette RVC passive preamp
Neumann KH80 DSP monitors and KH805 subwoofers
Sound Anchors racks, speaker stands and subwoofer bases
Mogami Gold balanced IC cables, etc.
I used to be an audiophile but not now. Just listened to variouse music with ease. I recently symplified my 2.2 speaker system to 2.1. 2.2 should be better but not easy to set up.
I hate to break it to you but you are still an audiophile
I would love to hear more about the dyi preamp
what do you think of the Placette in general?
love the aesthetic of the room, the gear and the rack…gorgeous
Welcome,
-JP
Hi John, thanks for the comment. Well, I have to agree with you that I still an audiophile, at least a “part-time” audiophile.
I have been using these two preamps for more than 10 years. I am always thinking of changing them with one decent preamp but no one that I can afford that can replace them. The DIY preamp was made by my friend. I don’t know more about technique. I can post detal pictures later. As for the Placette, I bought it after reading very possitive reviews on the Stereophile and Audio Aslym. I agree what they said about this toy. But its performance is very system depending. At least your CD player or DAC should have a relatively high output. Esoteric K01X and prior DAC I used which was Prism Sound Dream DA2 have high output.
Now I’m listening vinyl records with DIY preamp and CD/SACD/Tidal/Files with Placette.
