The DMP experience

We all want something different for our DMP Experience.
I bought my DMP three years ago to play cd’s. Since then, every day, it’s played cd’s. I put one in, hit play and it plays to the end of the cd, just like I expect. It occurs to me that i hardly ever think to look at the display. Although I will admit that sometimes I needed to hit play twice, but Coffee Jeff fixed that when he said that one needs to give a forceful shove to the remote’s play button. I found that to work a charm.
But I guess I’m a bit of an oddball in that I often switch off the DAC and DMP displays when I’m listening, not because it sounds better, but because I just prefer them dark. And each update seemed to me to be truly an update. For me, it’s been sound quality/value for money well spent. I feel lucky certainly after reading so many entries, this forum, that my system of carefully chosen components from PS Audio, Pass Labs, Decware, Zu Audio, Iconoclast give me such a joyful Experience and certainly including my DMP.

No worries, I read between the lines.

And I forgot to add the most annoying glitch my DMP is still doing despite all the updates which is all the pops and snaps upon reading and then at the start of play of SACD’s.

The other glitches are intermittent. But this one happens with every SACD.

If this one issue could be fixed I’d be OK with no further updates.*

*Just after posting this I put an SACD into the DMP and hit play repeatedly and nothing happened. Ejecting and reinserting the disc fixed the problem. So actually, fix this too please. :slightly_smiling_face:

You are not alone. My preference too, for my amplifier also. Only the logos remain on - because they can’t be switched off… And the display of my P3, because I don’t know how to switch it off. But that is located on the floor, so it doesn’t distract me that much. Best would be, if the equipment would disappear completely, in that respect I agree with my wife

… or without sound, despite the display showing progress…

Yes, mine does that intermittently too.

I cover the logos with a folded piece of cardboard. Darkness is my friend.

Yeah, all that. I’m over it, and as many of you know I’ve moved on. I didn’t get burnt financially for the experience so ultimately I’ve emerged none the worse for it.

Rest assured, next week when the Grandioso arrives, if the blue LED is too bright I can adjust it to whatever level I want. Even completely off. I too like to listen in darkness. And free of the aroma of elephant.

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the Grandioso. I looked it up and it looks great. But for that much money, I hope the factory packaging is a car.

That’s right. The drive home from the dealer with the Grandioso in the back significantly ups the value of the mode of conveyance compared to the value on the drive to the dealer!

Here’s a review of the Grandioso stack. MSRP is actually slightly cheaper in Australia than in the US. Our friends in the EU/UK are the opposite. Regrettable for them. Good for me.

Yes, I’ve read that review and as I said, it sounds amazing; the chamfering of the thru holes, the bespoke solder mix, etc. And I really like the styling of the enclosure.

The next version dispenses with pressed internal steel chassis, replaced with CNC machined.

I’m contemplating what disc to spin up first in the new transport…so many to choose from, but not anywhere near as many as some others here. I’m working on adding to my puerile rubbish CD collection, and some not-so-puerile. Spotify is providing me with some wonderful leads.

My DMP wont recognize any discs! I’ve only played about 20 cds on it in the 14 months or so I’ve had it. I bought it new, but stream most of my music from Qobuz, Tidal, and my local server.
Reinstalled software to no avail. Guess I’m going to have to return it AGAIN!

Greetings, fellow DMP owners.

I have purchased and used 2 DMP units over the course of the past 6 months (both running software version 3.15); I, too, experience intermittent refusal to play any supported disc format.

Very frustrating, considering the $12K spent (thought of as an investment).

Are software update efforts underway (hopefully)?
If so, is there an estimated/approximate release date?

FWIW, I also own 2 DirectStream DACs, a P20 and a P12.

Thank you.

According to Barry, maybe another update later this year. I reported all the issues I found to him (documented on video and in DMP log files)… The DMP is far from being a polished machine right now, still needs some work.

Hopefully…Paul will keep to his word on a tradeback for the new cd transport due to be released spring 2020. Im sure it will operate better than the DMP…:unamused:

We will have an aggressive trade up program as best we can within the limits of what we can do. And, no, I don’t know what we can offer. But, we will.

So far, it looks as if we’ll be able to build a new transport around an SACD mechanism, the finest I have ever played with. This unit is far nicer than the Oppo drive - and it should be. The drive itself costs us more than an Oppo player retailed
for! But, if we can work with the supplier it’s what we’ll base the new transport around. Fingers crossed. There’s plenty of hurdles yet to leap over before it becomes a reality (and
if it becomes a reality).

You want to make me go bankrupt Paul. You want my Missus to call the lawyers :innocent:

Trading up my DMP for the new SACD transport. Purchasing Octave when it is out and in full force. PSA wants me homeless I say :weary:

So hopefully the new transport can now be expected to actually play SACDs as a
principal characteristic ?
This would make it truly a replacement for the DMP.

Thanks
