The DMP experience

I would much rather see a transport capable of SACD playback than just another Red book transport. I did not purchase my DMP with the intention to have to trade it in at such a short period of time to get a fully functional transport. I love my DMP in spite of it’s crotchety behavior at times. I would rather see the code finally fixed than to have to spend more money on another transport. I also am not interested in built in eq for older poorly recorded disks.

Is there any chance that the optical pickup in your unit may merely be dirty?

So far ever sice I’ve got my DMP (from brand new) it hasn’t failed to play back any SACD whatsoever. Fingers cross it stays that way

Same here. Since the last upgrade it also loads faster with fewer pops.
Happy to hear Octave might get an SACD transport. If it works better,
sounds better, and is easy to stream, I’m in.

Peanut_Buttter,

Thanks for your concern re dirty optical pickup - but
NO problems with my DMP.
I just was asking Paul to confirm the new transport will be SACD-capable !

Octave is a streamer only. The new transport may or may not be sacd capable.

As of now it will play SACD’s according to Paul. PS Audio is negotiating an SACD capable drive.

For the new transport, not Octave

Correct. It is worth repeating: “Octave is the basis for our long awaited Network server. Any server has to have a music management system to work well and it is that music management system, like iTunes, Roon, etc. that make or break a product. Octave is our version and we’ve been working hard getting it right.” – Paul McGowan

@watchdog507: Just to be clear, PSA is working on a new transport and a new “network server”.

FYI.

Yes, that is correct. They want $55,000 just to talk to them. Sigh. It’s this manufacturer’s way of weeding out the small manufacturers they don’t want to bother with.

Must be nice to be in that manufacturer’s position where they can charge potential customers to be their customers. It’s like stereo dealers charging a fee to enter their showrooms.

Ugh! The good thing is that they’re telling you up front what they’re going to be like to deal with.

We all saw how that went with Oppo! They deserted ship faster than the rats on the Titanic!

Yes and they’;ve mentioned no support and no customization. If this wasn’t such a drop dead gorgeous hunk of technology….

Don’t fall for a pretty face, Paul ; )

At what point is it cheaper to get a license directly from Sony for SACD? Or aren’t we there yet for this unit?

Regarding “pretty faces”, also I would caution you not to use the phrase “drop dead” right after mention of the Oppo.
Chas

Disagree, always go for the pretty face when you have a chance.
