Are there anyone herein using Roon with the DS (over USB)?
The reason for asking is that I have experienced some dropouts from Roon lately .
I have always reckon this to be a source/library/network issue based on its error message, however now I start thinking that since Roon mutes the sound the moment it loses the streamer (Roon endpoint) this could be the reason. Roon will lose the streamer if the streamer loses the DAC over USB. This is a security measure.
So, I guess what I am saying is that if the DS drops out for longer periods this can cause knock-on problems. I will chase this further and report back.
I’m curious to know if the betas who first tested the original beta versions of Torreys, and who felt that these versions bested Yale (by a long shot according to some!) feel that ‘Final Torreys’ is as good as, or even superior to these earlier beta versions? Personally, I think my system sounds absolutely stunning with the ‘Final Torreys’ installed, but I also felt that my system sounded stunning with Yale! No complaints from my end…I just need to try a litter harder to see if I can discern any significant differences.
I tried Torrey’s for a couple days. I am back to Yale. I prefer the amazing imaging I get with Yale lost with Torrey’s. Others may not find this in there system. I am sticking with Yale, I don’t use a bridge or Roon. Modded Mac mini, bit perfect, and regan.
I came in on the tail-end of the Torreys Beta (TB) trial but Paul sent me a link to the download just the same. I listened to the Beta for a weekend and liked what I heard. I found TB to be a significant improvement over Yale. TB was more open, more resolving, having more space around the instruments, and more air / sparkle on the top-end which I like. When I loaded the Final version, I listened for about an hour and didn’t like what I heard so I went back to TB. Have you tried Torreys Beta? Mine beta version is 0135 and am very happy with it. I will keep running TB until the next FPGA firmware version comes out.

Torreys Final is an improvement over Yale in my system, but TorreysA was absolutely breathtaking.

Totally agree re continuous improvement. It’s the reason I invested in the DS…because of its FPGA and the ability to continually improve it.
Ted, my Torreys B beta USB number is 00.195. Is that a clue as to what might be going on with the USB crashing? Thanks.

You don’t want Torreys A. At the very least read the whole http://www.psaudio.com/forum/directstream-all-about-it/torreys-beta-testers-wanted-apply-within/#p54829 thread to see what you are in for: there’s a reason there’s no download link for it.

i am glad more listeners now recognize the superiority of torreys a. i mentioned it several times early in the thread. it is “what the artist originally intended” anyways, then he had to deal with the bugs. i do not do dsd or usb or bridge, so i did not encounter any bugs.

Ted is correct with his statement regarding Torreys A, that it really should really be avoided… How it is riddled with bugs… Saying that, Torreys A is my favourite… But, when I play my Oppo 103/Vanity/HD/DoP the zippering noise was clearly evident on a few SACDs. Also, there is the issues with the bridge and all other anomalies, etc…
Being in an enviable position of owning two DS boxes - I can use one type of Firmware of my taste in one DS to play Hi-Res and use Torreys A in my second DS (solely to play standard CDs) with my PWT… I haven’t encountered ‘any problems’ with Torreys A playing standard CDs with the PWT … I have tried living with Torreys Final for a few days to play my standard CD’s through the PWT but, I just miss what Torreys A brings to the party so, I end up loading Torreys A again which brings the smile back… It’s the resolution, amazing amount of detail, space, air, ambience which is so special to me and which is lost completely with Torreys Final… I can’t enjoy playing standard CD’s with Torreys Final because so much information is lost - which is clearly evident with Torreys A.
But at the end of the day it is all down to personal preferences… …‘Everybody is right and nobody is wrong’… In the great scheme of things this is just a bagatelle…!

Torrey A is a killer and as far there no bug for me I will stay with this one.
It is odd all of us seem to have different impressions of the versions… I thought B lost some ambiance compared to A - whereas others think B had the most… B - I thought had most defined image… But, in doing so - lost some of the space and ambiance that A brought (which makes complete sense to me)… Then I moved back to A - switched my cables for DSD (as I listen to mostly DSD) … and when final came - I thought it maintained the ambiance - but the bass of B came back in a bit - which I liked… How could everyone be wrong and I be right…?? 
…haha… It is why I like to know what systems folks are listening on… The sound of A and Final brings a more holographic sound in my opinion - similar to something experienced when I listen to Magnepan 20.7s… A tad more diffuse… image slightly less defined… but still great imaging… incredible soundstage …but in the end … more real to me…
