We also love cars

The tests I cited measure the real-world performance of street cars on a racetrack. The tests are objective. They have nothing to do with “racing heritage”. “Racing heritage” means squat when it comes to actual street car performance. All that matters is which car is faster.

After years of testing, Corvettes are objectively faster than Porsches on the track. That is, a Corvette is faster through the turns than any Porsche - with a single exception: a silly expensive, limited edition $350,000+ Porsche. The stopwatch does not lie.

Bragging and posturing aside, Corvettes are faster than Porsches, straight line and turns. But if one has driven both and prefers a Porsche there is nothing wrong with this. Drive what you like. But one’s subjective preference does not a faster/better car make. Nor does it make competitors’ lesser cars.

Porsches have greater prestige in the eyes of many. Corvettes continue to have trouble shaking the 1970’s stereotype of the gold chain wearing sleazeball. But when the green flag drops, the Porsche driver is looking at Corvette taillights muttering “racing heritage” into his helmet.

It is an easy call for me. I care not a whit about “racing heritage,” what others think, prestige, etc. I want the best performing car. Less expensive is a bonus. Corvette is an easy call. But I can respect others coming to a different conclusion.

I understand your point of view, Elk. Thanks
I like Corvettes a lot. But they left my affection behind around 1972, when the LT1 went to 9:1,etc. and they became garish in my opinion.
I’ve had a schiiittton of cars. But no Corvettes.
One day, I’d love to fll that empty slot with a 1967 Corvette roadster small block; one of my most favorite cars ever.
But if I’m driving my car to a track, racing it and driving it home again, I’ll take a Porsche. Any track with curves.

I just googled and have no clue about race cars, but you might enjoy this (even German) article (in a general newspaper, no car magazine) favoring the Z06 over Porsche. However there are other reviews favoring a GT2 RS or GT3, but it gets obvious that they are all extremely close in performance at a much lower price of the Z06.

Test: Gegen die Corvette Z06 ist ein Porsche langweilig - WELT

I agree the Corvette is over-styled, especially the rear which is a mess. The rear of the new C8 is even worse than the older car. I much prefer the cleaner styling of my previous C5 Z06.

I, too, drive to the track, and drive home after the weekend.

I do not understand why so many look down on drag racing. I like curves so I run on tracks but I have dragged as well. It is fun, takes a great deal of skill to do well, and teaches you about your car. And, for me, any performance car should leap off of the line.

Porsches do just fine at the strip, especially the all- wheel drive variants.

Since this is the “humor” thread, let me start by saying: Funny, I had a 1966 396/360 Chevelle, M21 4spd, 4:10 that used to rip off consistent 12.8’s which back then was really moving on street tires (shaved of course).

I rebuilt a 1972 Land Rover Series III. On the track she’d do 50 mph before the shaking got too bad. About 7 MPG as well. And she had handling.

Top that, sports car posers!

Was the 7 MPG while going downhill in Neutral?

This is also why my dream car has always been an Audi A6 wagon. I’ve owned three so far in the last 30 years. Amazing traction in the snow and rain. And lots of room in the back to chuck stuff including dogs. And I love the styling with the clean lines. I don’t like the new ones—way too ostentatious styling (and of course I no longer care to pay USD60k for a depreciating asset). And the twin turbo is fantastic.

We have five dogs. They all fit. Three are 40lbs, one is 55.

One time in the mountains in California we had about a foot of snow overnight. The full size Range Rover parked in front of us on an incline couldn’t make it, slid backwards and lodged itself on our hood. The Audi through, had no trouble—it gripped the snow and kept going. Wow!

Bought the current one used. 2005 garage in San Francisco with only 65k on it, bought last year. 8k on auction. Superb condition. And It’s a rare one for a bunch of reasons.

And then there’s my wife’s car:

My wife, for lots of reasons, thinks I’m nuts but I love a sport wagon. Remember this Dodge Magnum commercial? The tractor is pretty cool too.

My mother in law gets everyone funny T shirts for Christmas every year. They all crack me up but I won’t wear many in public. I’ll wear this one out.

Great job!
Most people dont have any idea how much blood, sweat and tears it takes to race competitively let alone win one once in a while. Savor the feeling as you know how long it will last.

Perfect track day tool.
Is it coming or going?

Been looking for a 987.2 Porsche Cayman (2011) for a while, and found a minty one… now on its way to me from California.

Either have to sell something, or find a place to store something.
