9.1% My favorite while having lunch in Newport, RI
Tonight, with pizza, I might have accidentally drank two (and a little more) bottles of this pretty swell beer.
I apologize in advance for what I might bang away on this typing gizmo.
We have pizza tonight too, and we will have Pinot Noir to go with it and that’s a good match. It’s nothing fancy. After tonight we will eat grass and drink cheap wine for the rest of year considering how much I have spent on audio upgrades this year😆
It is a fine pour IME. Been a long time regarding Trappists brews.
I used to really go all in for Belgian and German brews. Sadly, my local distributor, who was the only true beer distributor in lower Manhattan, sold out a few years ago leaving me with no place to shop. He had the largest collection of world and USA brews of anyone at that time. It was like a Wonka Factory of brews.
So I switched to all things distilled
Summer time is cocktail time…less filling and just as tasty.
This week - Pisco Sours.
One of several vices. I’m pretty particular these days. When you’ve smoked the best. Straight from the source, no counterfeit here.
Great Choice in beverages .Piscos have evolved. Pisco Sours are mainly made with Quebranta grapes. Now there are sipping Piscos. These are divided between: Piscos Aromaticos; Piscos Acholados; and Piscos Mosto Verdes. These 3 have all different qualities and all are exceptional. Each cathegory are made by a blend of different grapes and the smell & flavors are excellent .If you can try: Piscos AROMATICOS: Gran Cruz Albilla; ACHOLADOS: Santiago Queirolo; MOSTO VERDE: Ocucaje Mosto Verde. Good Hunting
I was using Barsol Pisco, which works quite well in this cocktail. Thanks for the information. I’ll have to ask the buyer at the liquor store about bringing in some additional types. He loves to have a wide variety on hand for his ever widening customer base. I liken all this to the various types of grappa’s which are really dependent upon grape varietals and distillation procedures.
One of my favorite Piscos that was made by my buddy Johnny Shuler, is “Pisco Porton”, They are wide available in store here in Phoenix, Arizona. Stores like BevMo; Total Wine & More, etc. Check in your area. Porton has a Mosto Verde Pisco, that is really good for sipping. The last time I went back to Peru, I got the Pisco sipping glasses made by RIedel. You can get them at: wheretobuypisco.com.
Grappa & Pisco are cousins, but are not the exactly the same.
Check Johnny Shuler’s videos on his art of making Pisco.
Cheers.
Many thanks.
Enjoy!
My niece brought this wine to our Thanksgiving party, and I did not remember the last time a Pinot had tasted this good. I have had some pricier ones that did not taste close.
It turns out the son of the owner is a friend of her so my niece can buy at a discount. How nice!
Their roasting facility is a couple of miles from my place. They do very nice medium roasts.
Christian Drouin Calvados XO - Years ago, I was treated to a really good Calvados. This comes closest to that long ago experience w/o having to sell the farm. The perfect nightcap for a cold winter night
A fine Pinot indeed.
