Your Next Upgrade? (Part 1)

I would love to try the 103 but, unfortunately, my Grace arm is way too low in effective mass for it.

A good friend of mine had these gracing his audio room. They’re hand made canvas stretched over fibre board insulation. His wife is a talented artist and she designed and painted the images. He recently revised his treatments and these were superfluous. I’d often admired them and told him do. Well he dropped by and gifted these to me! I’m thrilled to own them. I’ll put them up on the weekend.

A kind gift

For those of you obsessed with “the thicker the better” cable theory - which is probably more a male psychoacoustic thing - try these for size:

Woah, those cables do look thin. At one point there was a slogan “thin is in”.

New rack from Timbernation. Built like a tank of all Pennsylvania solid wood. VERY heavy, broke my back unpacking and assembling but fitted together flawlessly.

I got in the Bottlehead preamp and rolled some tubes and am using it to feed the PS Audio GCHA in the headphone only system. It sounds really good with several tube complements, and as soon as I can figure out what fuse value it uses (it’s just not there on the fuse, unusually–it’s probably a 2 A) I’ll get a better fuse for it, may have one on hand.

Very clever and simply designed preamp. It uses a 0D3 voltage regulation tube quite cleverly and I have about a dozen different ones to try, so far of the four or so I’ve tried a Westinghouse bottle-shaped suits it the best.

I love mine! looks sharp, heavy and well built.

While I’m not a fan of wood racks (I’ve used a few in the past and they all “added” their own sound), the Timbernation stuff is about as good as it gets for wood racks (along with Mapleshade). Congrats, Ron. It looks fantastic.

More air, more detail, blacker background, in fact Miles must have been gassy on this recording date----no, wait, that was me.
Actually, the biggest improvement with this rack is that I no longer have to squat down to change records/clean me stylus.

You too funny, Ron! But it sounds like a great upgrade all the way around. :+1:

It is extremely elegant. Nothing beats a good bit of carpentry. All our furniture, including the kitchen, is handmade with love and attention by a hairy Welshman called Paul. You have to be committed to a hifi system to have a rack built for it. I had a hifi unit made 10 years ago and it is now full of stuff in my wife’s therapy clinic. We have a bench made from a 300 year old piece of teak, about 10 feet long and 2 feet deep, it would make a perfect hifi unit. It’s as hard and heavy as steel. Unfortunately my wife would put me through her blender before I get the chance.

I have several upgrades in the works. New rack under construction. New integrated amp, new HT projector, waiting on speaker cables. Exciting times for sure. I’m keeping my upgrade consistency.

I purchase the BHK 300’s and the BHK 600’s are released.
I purchase Rel No. 25’s and the Rel No. 32’s are released.
I purchase a The Diablo 300 and Gryphon releases the The Diablo 333

I will be ok so nobody feel sorry for me. :+1:t2:

I have some fancy Synergistic Reseach Reference REL high level cables coming for my subs I never use. Absurd.

I got itchy. Had to scratch. I hope they are nice.

Interesting and now on my list of possibilities.

Price is rumored to be almost twice that of current model.

I’d avoid any Diablo 666 version unless money back guarantee includes free exorcism. But a half Devil :imp: 333 might not fully possess your soul.

So $40K list? Hmmmmm.

That’s what was posted on another forum by one of the guys who went to the show. Seems like the better deal would be buying a model close out or store demo 300 after the 333 is released. It’s using the remote from your preamp instead of the wand.
