I guess Im a REL guy as that is all I have owned for like two decades (brief foray with JL)
I have always just used the 900ft included cable. Makes sense there might be shorter higher quality options. If anyone is using Bassline, Schmidt, Kimber etc and has any input that would be great. Im 2 channel only and 3m is plenty long. Thank you.
I replaced the stock REL high level cable with a Signal Cable high level. Better than stock - slightly clearer, slightly more feel of articulation when the recording has it to give. For the price it was a nice improvement. It is also very nicely made.
I’m using Bassline Blue on both my Rel subs they seem good and affordable (better than stock). @aangen uses the SR reference cable and says it’s quite good. If you seen one of the other threads his rabbit Connie is a big fan of the SR Rel cable also.
The cables I use for my RELs list for $2800 each. Don’t follow me. It is pure foolishness. If you like the sound you hear with the stock cables, you are blessed and should accept your good fortune.
Do my cables sound better? Sure, maybe $43 better.
Apparently they taste good too. I can in no way keep up with you sir. And i think for a sub, even the Bassline cables by Rel at 500 bucks is a little nuts. But i also see them at about 100 bucks. One brand combines the two wires together for dual subs. Kinda cool. Thought id ask the group before i dropped any cash on a “upgrade” .Always good info here…
How long do your REL cables need to be? I have a pair of only $500 each 1m REL sub cables I could send you. Al, never, ever buy any more 1m cables. EVER!
I switched from the 900ft (I think it’s actually 10meters) included cable to a 3m Bassline Blue - it made for a much cleaner install and a slight difference sound wise.
My REL subs are set very low, both crossover and volume, so they don’t have much room to show any value for silly priced cables.
Morrow Audio makes REL cables, not sure the price but could be worth a listen - as for me, I use the baseline blue for my REL (an S/510 for music, not HT) and I did hear improvement - sounds like more space, tighter and clearer than the included cable. I consider it worth the difference in my system. Had I known about Morrow’s REL cable, I would have tried their’s before buying the REL cable. The best speaker cables I have ever been able to afford are Audience, had I known I might have also auditioned their REL cable in my system as well before buying the REL-made cable.
Good point and thanks for the link. If im spending 500 (yikes) id probably just do the Blue. However I am full loom Kimber. I guess looking at any offering they have is not a bad idea.
Iconoclast will also make a Neutrik cable. Listed under their BAV Power and Audio section. Reasonable prices. This is also on my cable “to do” list. I’d say it would be an upgrade over the 2 mile REL cable. Have not heard one though.
In the past, I’d alternated between the stock oem cables and a pair of cables I made with DH Labs Q10, quality spades, and a slightly better quality Neutrik connector. With my pair of SHO S/3s, I can’t say I’ve heard a difference worth mentioning when paired with my Tidal Piano Ceras. I don’t keep the sub’s volume up very loud though. I keep mulling over the idea of making or buying another set of sub cables for the much longer set I’d need now but it just seems like a low yield project mainly designed to satisfy another audiophile nervosa spasm.
I read somewhere during my research that due to the impedance, the signal we are working with etc darn near any piece of wire will work.
But then we also have a plethora of cables selling for hundreds of bucks.
Also if the Bassline is so much better, include it Rel. It cant be that much more pricy than stock in bulk.
This thread has helped a ton. But the other thing is if I grab a cable then upon grabbing a 2nd sub, i got the wrong cable as two wires now need combined.
Im looking used and new with a couple mfg leading the way. Also moving the sub looking for best spot. I still think 3m is fine as i cant see going to far from front wall.
