I thought everyone got two million dollars from the US Government when they hit 65.
I specialize in doing nothing. It’s my super power.
Good luck !
Or a pasticiotto or sfogliatella! Or all three!
I have been on a similar journey as most of you have. Starting with Parasound and Focal. Peaking with Dag and Wilson and now back closer to earth with Quicksilver/Rose and Klipsch. Honestly though as I browse TMR (my nemesis) I come to two conclusions. #1 there is hardly anything out there I have not had, heard or auditioned in the last 20 years. All very similar really. Same stuff, different color. #2 even though I love the hobby and all the fun that comes with it, I can’t think of where I would even go next. I love the Rose. I could try a Mac 275 but probably different more than better. So really stereo wise, I’m set at this point. Streaming has really been a game changer for me.
Now cars, that’s a different story.
I’ve seen enough people get to that point where it is a massacre.
It is a battle for a while. Being careful with not falling is hugely important with that battle.
Moving around and staying active, but not over-doing it, is important with the battle.
Eating healthy and breathing properly are important with that battle.
A high-end stereo system is important with the battle (had to sneak that in, LOL).
The body simply failing at some point, whether slowly or over a long period, is nothing but a massacre.
This video is a perfect example of if you don’t know the equipment you sell or review then maybe you shouldn’t put a video out about its performance while listening and stick to unboxing videos. He is far from a pro. Poorly done and should never been posted on YouTube imo. Tho he did admit his mistakes so I’ll give him that.
Happy Cake Day Tony!
Thanks but too soon! Not for a couple of weeks yet.
There must of been a ghost cake next to your name earlier. I know I saw it.
I hear that.
Almost 2 years retired, bored, but unmotivated.
Doing nothing is so desirable to me, a sort of goal to aspire to!
Is it always a “project” or can you ever settle in and just enjoy music?
It always seems to be:
What’s next?
What can I change to make it better/different?
What am I missing and how do I get it?
Is it FOMO or just the nature of audio people to keep exploring?
There are days where I feel like selling everything, buying a nice simple vintage system and pocketing all the money I recovered.
It might come to that as we get older. I’ve been to many estate sales where objects that were important to the deceased are given away for pennies on the dollar or given to Goodwill.
Yes, that’s so sad when that happens. Just the thought of the possibility helps keep a lid on my purchases. Well, at least a little bit.
I know perfectly well what happens to a sublime champagne or tasty food after dinner. This doesn’t stop me from wanting the pleasure of enjoying them to the full every time. Ephemeral pleasure, but it reminds me of the joy of living!
Good point.
But can we be happy with less, or is that impossible once we’ve been spoiled with a taste of the good stuff?
You are right! At least if the “downsize” is not a free choice but a necessity!
However, simple desire keeps us alive, perhaps something incredibly satisfying despite being less valuable, less famous, less widespread.
It’s not the object, rather the ability to achieve joy by it.
Now my new speakers are set, I am down to only six different types of decoupling pads and footers to consider. One of them should satisfy me, or not🙄
I must be somewhat satisfied. I’ve gone two months without making any changes. Might be a record.
