I’m imagining the PSA staff to be as competent as a F1 tyre replacement crew during a race.
Starch, no starch?
No starch, potato flakes might bring bugs to the exterior. . Surely there’s likely a Beta bug or two hidden in the interior already in the code already to deal with
I’ve made sure of it.
When I left work on Friday our head tech, Jordan, had managed to remove the 10 chips from about 60 of the 100 units awaiting the fix. Each one has to be handled by hand and carefully. This means we should see maybe half of the ones fixed leaving on Monday if the creek don’t rise and the snow don’t fall. ![]()
My guess is that by mid week next week all 100 beta units will be fixed, tested, packaged and out the door. But, that’s optimistic me. Certainly some will ship on Monday.
They are shipped by alphabetic order, right? Either by last name of first name is fine with me

Paul, that is the kind of quantitative and definitive shipping update we love to see. Thank you and can’t wait to receive the beta unit !
I don’t think it matters too much since both units should run pretty cool. I’d vote whichever unit you interact with more goes on top. I have DSJ on top of my PST, but that’s mostly because DSJ runs warm. Other reason being that small “bump” on the bottom of PST for the drive. When the day comes to upgrade to MK2 I will probably put it on top if I’m still stacking. It will look shinier than the PST! ![]()
Thanks, and I just realized my power cord may not be long enough to reach the MK2 if it is placed on top of PST on top shelf. Well, I need to take DS out and plug in the power cord to keep it warm while I try the MK2, I guess.
Thank you…
Thanks for the update and big thanks to Jordan for all his hard work!
Um… Just listen to how loud it is?
Loudness won’t be a problem as Ted has stated that the Mk 2 does the equivalent of at least 11 compared with the Mk 1 ):-
Hah! I imagine our folks are pretty scrupulous are timing on order placement. Those who got their orders in first will (should) get shipped first.
There will be a proper flurry of shipping activity come Monday morning and out the door via FedEx that afternoon.
It’s been a long time coming.
Ted has outdone himself.
It defaults to the volume number.
Thanks to all involved with this great project, I could not wait long enough to push the BUY button. So, hopefully I muscled in mine in the front line. ![]()
From what I have read from you, Ted, and James, I am excited to put my hand on it and send the DS back quickly! ![]()
That’s a super idea. Of course it’s easy for us to ask, another thing entirely to do a video.
@Paul I like the looks of the new DAC. And at $8k the price is less than expected.
I believe you have another winner on your hands. Especially for the money.
I am as eager as anyone else to get the first impressions from the beta testers. But, I am also a bit sad that the Airlens is not available at least at the same time. I have the DSJ and no other capable streamer at hand, never listening to CD:s anymore.
So I will have to wait until beginning of next year. ![]()
Airlens first, then the MkII.
Only listened to SACDs through I2S and PCM through USB. The SACDs sounded outstanding so I’m going to attribute most of the improvement to that.
