Brodric, I have many of the Cd’s in racks I built to fit the available space, others in a filing cabinet that just happened to be sized perfectly for jewel cases, and the rest in temporary boxes intended for CD’s. Photos are below. As for sorting them, I have one rack (first photo) dedicated to classical and they are organized alphabetically by label (since many classical discs have more than one composer). Another slightly smaller rack (second photo) is dedicated to jazz (and some big box sets) where they are organized alphabetically by artist, except for XRCD which are separated and arranged by artist/label. The third smaller rack (fifth photo, which I bought second hand as a quick solution) holds most of the classical SACD, arranged alphabetically by label. The file cabinet (third photo) is what I call “Everything Else”, rock, alternative, electronics, world, … and they are arranged alphabetically by artist. The temporary boxes (fourth photo, the mouse belongs to the Little Demon) are arranged alphabetically, three boxes are Everything Else overflow (the file cabinet is full), and the rest are unfiled classical and jazz. I also have a Microsoft Access database where everything is listed so I can search the whole thing. The classical part of the database got corrupted (my fault) so I need to repair it, hence some of the unfiled discs. I also try (emphasis on try) to listen to everything before filing. Due to circumstances (my fault again) I haven’t done a good job of that for many months.
I enjoy and appreciate my PS Audio gear no more or less than the other gear (or manufacturer of such) in my stable, to be honest. With that, I have been frustrated and even angry at times with my DMP and DS DAC (for example, the occasional hiccup during some firmware updates). I have read other members’ disdain, often in agreement and with empathy - despite my lack of posting my own grievances. So, I can see why it would seem as though the balance and objectivism I strive to maintain is not necessarily evident in my posts, collectively. Man, I’ve got to start slinging more piss and vinegar around here.
When it comes to posting statements that implicate illegal/unethical/immoral activity being perpetrated by a person or business, the burden should be hefty for that member to accompany such allegations with supportive information. iRon is not the first to post such unsupported claims. Call it forum “due process” if you will, but the subject of such imputations deserves nothing less. And if there is no such corroboration, it is nothing less than slanderous. No good natured business should be victimized by untrue assertions based on nothing more than spite and anger. Publicly demanding this type of authentication doesn’t implicate agreement or disagreement, in and of itself. I guess I am a bit jaded having concerned myself for far too many years with human acts and communicated words.
But Dirk, I have to say… your below post here may have been the funniest I have read on this forum thus far. It nearly had me in tears Well done!
Yeah, I agree. I just got some eBay feedback from a buyer of an Audioquest cable I sold. He claimed in the feedback the cable was counterfeit. 100% utter bollocks. As if I would own or peddle anything counterfeit. eBay was not prepared to remove the comment despite the buyer not uttering an iota of supporting evidence. Best they could do was to ask him to remove it, but he chose not to. First negative comment about me on eBay ever (about 20 years), nothing more I can do about it.
ebay can be a difficult place! Sorry to hear that happened to you. It is ridiculous that someone can get away with something like that. The equipment that you buy and sell is always of the highest quality.
And the guy emailed me outside eBay after he received it to say it was a great cable for the price paid. Well yeah, he got a genuine AQ cable for a fraction of new price. Anyway, so be it.
I recently sold a set of Magico speaker spikes on eBay to a guy in the Netherlands. Come time to ship it I couldn’t find the floor saver discs the spikes sit on. So I shipped him the set of spikes minus the missing part, and I ordered a new set of floor savers from Magico for him. Cost me more than what I got paid for them.
That’s awful and it reminds me of a Churchill quote: A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on. And that was then!
I have a new disc spinner coming soon so I’m going to have to do something similar to get my collection cataloged and shelved, replace broken jewel cases etc, clean discs etc. One gets lazy with such discipline when you’re used to not needing a disc to play the disc.
Very nice wood work! I made similar shelves, but more basic, my aim was to get as many discs in as possible, so the shelves reach up to the ceiling and I need a ladder to get to the top most row…
I wouldn’t agree with the bait and switch claim…bait and switch is more like when you order fresh local snapper at the fish and chip shop but they knowingly give you frozen Vietnamese carp instead, to boost their profit on the transaction.
In the DMP marketing context however, I certainly agree that the claims made didn’t quite match what was being sold. Although there was never any intent to deceive. However, when the disparity about what was promised and reality became known, more affirmative action should have been taken to bring everything into proper alignment.
As far as I understand Bait & switch is defined as advertising a product which you don’t stock or only have an extremely limited number and then trying to ‘upsell’ to a more expensive model.
This isn’t happening (as far as I understand) - for a couple of products the physical unit doesn’t fulfill the advertising or operational claims.
That’s false advertising, especially continuing the same advertising when the failures are acknowledged or well documented. Unless the intent is to remedy the issues in a reasonable timeframe.
Not the best outcome for all concerned.
