DMP Firmware upgrade 3.06 released

Further Testing - I just finished listening to Sam McClain “Blues for the Soul” SACD and it is amazing. The sound stage is more open, might be a little more clear, ??. The SQ is definitely better. I love my PSA stuff and these SF Guareni Evolution bookshelf speakers are just amazing

  1. A pop at the beginning of the SACD/CD starting to play after playing the whole SACD/CD; no pop after each song.
  2. No track titles displayed, with both SACDs and CDs.
  3. No album art displayed, with both SACDs and CDs
  4. Remote number selection from number pad OK
  5. Remote pause, forward, replay of the CD/SACD at the end OK

Just Updated 3.06, my share of the findings:

  • Update process was smooth
  • A soft pop in beginning of SACD, but I had that even with 2.06
  • Number Pad play is OK
  • Forward and backward track works fine
  • In terms of Cover art or title tracks…well, I don’t have internet hooked
up to the DMP. I have the case in front of me, why need it. But that’s just me.
I like to keep everything as simple as possible.

SQ? Yes better. Why does codes that supposedly improve functionalities improve
SQ…I’d leave it for Paul to explain because I don’t have a clue. I am just happy
being a PS Audio DMP & DSJ owner

Oops, maybe I should have posted in the impression section.
Sorry

Thanks Ted. I will check with the local supplier. Cheers

Quote from Paul…”Yes. It seems to be better. Perhaps by a lot. As Barry slicked up the code and removed the clutter of loops and dead end streets that had been a part of the old code, the processors seem to be happier and that clearer, cleaner path, seems to have relaxed the processor demands enough to impact sound quality in a positive manner.”

Thx a lot.

@Elk will be sure to shift it to the proper topic.

Try skipping to the next track using the RC a few times whilst the previous song is playing, see if you can invoke the cone of silence bug.

@Brodric I skipped to the next track and nothing. The only pop I hear is right at the beginning of the SACD when I start or when I’m at the last track and begin over. I tried it on a few SACDs and CDs, nothing; weird… sorry…

Hey now…

Just listening to John Pizzarelli DSD and I get cover art.

My first attempt to play an SACD since installing 3.06:

DMP displays “SACD” in the upper left and PCM 88.2k/24.
DS screen displays PCM 48k/24.

The disc started playing upon loading without hitting the play button and then would play but without sound until I discovered that pushing the volume button restored the sound.

Does this mean the DMP is not defaulting to the DSD layer of this hybrid SACD even thought it’s set to do so?

How is the DMP connected to the DS?

Via HTMI to I2S no. 1

Have you set SACD mode to Stereo SACD in the setup menu of the DMP?

That’s the way I had it set prior to installing 3.06.

Currently I can’t access the set up menu of my DMP due to another ongoing bug I’m dealing with: my touch screen only allows me to open and close the disc tray and nothing more. I had hoped that maybe the installation of 3.06 would have rebooted my touch screen to full functionality but it didn’t.

3rd reboot worked. I’ve got DSD playback functional now and will stick with 3.06. Looking forward to data disc functionality.

Wonderful news. These issues can be frustrating.

All this is very nerve racking, as I JUST purchased three pieces of PS Audio gear less than 30 days ago. The DMP, dac jr, and GHK 250 amp. And now I have to decide if I’m going to hang on to it and see if future updates make things right, or jump ship while I still can. The gear isn’t even done breaking in yet, and although things are starting to sound pretty good, functionality of the DMP and dac jr, are giving me a headache, and keeping me from enjoying my purchase. It’s unfortunate, because I like most things about PS Audio. The equipment sounds great, it’s well built, the company is local to me, and they seem to have really good customer support. But I have little to no patience with putting up with glitches on NEW equipment that set me back a good chunk of change.

At least you have the benefit of 30 day no obligation free trial, and free shipping. We don’t get that in other markets.

I’ve owned DS DAC for years, it’s been temperamental for years. You just need to accept it as it is (as I have), or move on. Many of us remain owners simply because we love the company, and have done so for years, despite the problems.
