Yeah it shouldn’t be that difficult

Break it down! Try reformatting the drive to FAT30 and load only the FPGA code and see if it will load.

Please be sure to include Image.BIn file also. Everything must be in root directory of usb and unzipped.

I got home last night after traveling on business and got to spend two more hours listening to Nlue Sky after 5 days of running in.

I could listen at both lower levels or the 12 watt peaks That I usually do. Everything still sounds significantly better with images with such definition and space. I even tried Sargent Peppers Lonely Heart Club Band and some Pink Floyd The Wall tracks. Stuff I rarely listen to. But oh man, the distinction and clarity of the special effects laid down in tracks is just as special as the lyrics annd instrumentals. I have yet to find a musical selection you need to follow Roon lyrics to know the bathroom is on right type wasn’t the artist intent in any recording.

I ended the evening with these at 1230 AM. Zero fatigue and not wanting to shut down the system. The Akropolis Reed Quintet was indeed reproducing the instruments and the recording space since non of instruments were miked. Just incredible.

I downloaded the seven elements:
Manual Updates Files
DSD Mk2_v3.2.1.bin
fpga1_239_Auto.bin
fpga1_239_BlueSky.bin
image.bin
PDF PerfectWave DSD Mk2 Release Notes.pdf
I opened the file and I got this:
dsdmk2_v3.2.1.bin
fpga1_239_BlueSky.bin
I got the USB stick out of the Dell computer, and I put it in the PS Audio DAC, And I set it to Firmware Updates. All I get in a message that says “Retriving File List…” This is continuing for 30 minutes. I give up!

I forgot the 7th element which is “PDF Firmware Update Instructions.pdf”

Did you use a USB larger than 32GB? The only one that worked for me was an 8GB 10-year-old USB stick, no new ones worked.

I tried a dozen sticks I have a collection from and even re-formated to FAT32 and none worked. I was about to give up and then tried just getting fresh drive from Amazon and lo and behold, worked first try and every time a new update was available. Didn’t even have to format, worked right out from the box.

I used a new USB 2.0 32gb stick from SanDisk from Micro Center in Chicago. At least I can return the item within 30 days!

If this is a major problem for many users, people will solve the problem by moving to a different DAC! I have a Wandla Golden Sound DAC that updates firmware by sending the updates directly from the Cloud to the DAC! No interaction with my own computer.

From what I have seen of the Wadia is tha uses off the shelf DAC chips not fpga. Their firmware is only operational it does not alter the performance like the code written by Ted Smith for the fpga. The mk2 has wifi and ethernet and when PS Audio writes the code to make it do over the air updates it will do so. The PST already does updates that way.

There are always some who unfortunately have issues updating.

But appears the majority have no problem, given the few posted problems.

Regardless, if you are one of the few it does not matter if others have no issue. :frowning:

I have never had an issue, and done this many times with both the DS1 and 2 and transports, and it’s something I’m not good at or know anything about…just numerous minor delays due to user error…the Airlens is another story…

I use a cruiser fit 32 gb drive without issue. I download the firmware and extracl all files to the root directory of the cruiser fit.

I go right back to the first kit upgrade to the Mk1 DSD, then trade in for the DSD Mk2. I’ve kept an old USB for firmware upgrades (must be ancient) and had no problems with updates over these many years. I do read and re-read the instructions every time though!

My main issue is with the firmware updates via 20th century technology. I admit that I get a kick doing the FPGA updates and being able to swap between versions. I would not expect PSA to build that into a cloud function. Though it sure would be nice…

PSA itself is responsible for the firmware and should get itself into the new millennia. I did a survey of six DACs in my house and five have OTA firmware updates. Admittedly only three of them are considered audiophile units though.

I’m amazed that I got this uploaded and performing perfectly considering my past history. . . . I used one of the “sticks” that I bought from PS Audio, removed the files on it and loaded the new. That will be my modus operandum going forward!

I understand the philosophical preference for OTA updates, but the discussion I addressed is whether many have a problem with the current system.

From the information available, it appears not.

As a separate matter, I prefer the system allow backing up to previous firmware updates, whatever the method.

Just to be clear, put only the following files (the dates are what I used) in the root directory (no folders) of the USB stick :

dsdmk2_v3.2.1.bin (dated 12/15/2024)
fpga1_239_BlueSky.bin (dated 12/15/2024)
image.bin (dated 12/12/2024)

As stated previously, the stick should be formatted to FAT32. Side note, I have used older, much smaller USB sticks, 2GB or less, and they still work. To update plug the USB stick in the Firmware Update slot then turn the DAC off using the rear power switch, wait a moment, then turn back on. The front blue button (upper left corner of front face) should flash for a short time while the update is done. When done turn off the power at the rear switch, remove the USB stick, then turn back on. You can navigate the menu to verify the update was completed in the Version screen (you need to scroll down one line to see the magic words “Blue Sky”). let us know if that helps, if not professional help is required! Good luck!

You got it. Engineering did an update to the files late last week. It’s much more automated now. We’ll be updating the instruction videos soon. The current videos are still correct, there’s just a more “automatic” way to do the updates now.
