You’re right @aangen - it can if one so chooses
Blue sky is a big jump on Massive, even allowing for FGPA “burn in” which I am observing

This is good feedback to hear! I’m waiting for my Xangsane ground boxes, but meanwhile greatly enjoying Blue Sky! If I can save myself from hankering for a Grimm MU2, that will save some $$ for other things
Actually, if you enjoy your current DAC and your current Server/Streamer doesn’t frustrate you there is no need to hurry into the MU2. It’s a great piece, but you may already be enjoying greatness. It will be there when you gotta gotta have it.
Having said that I think we only have about 6 months left of civilization so maybe spend it while you have time.
MU2 is great, and so is Mk2. I’m glad to keep both of them. Mk2 using MU2’s pre is sublime. I heard every detail from little change, yet the combo is so musical. Don’t give up on saving for MU2 yet🙂
I’ll think of that when I play golf this morning 🏌🏽♂️
There is no contest blue sky is a decent sized step better than massive. It didn’t take a week but a couple hrs for me to realize. It sounded like I got a new DAC again
Everything sounded more “there”, especillay intimacy when listening to solo instruments or chamber music.
I let the MKII play while I’m at work, streaming from Qobuz via Air Lens. I’ll do a listening test tonight with Blue Sky when I get home
Not too long ago my preference from the top to bottom was: DSD256 files from SSD, SACD, then QOBUZ/Tidel streaming. Disc has always had more “substance”, but DSD file sounds quieter and more analog.
But last night SACDs sounded better for sure, and I contributed to three upgrades: PZ, Xangsane grounding box, and the latest Blue Sky update.
I was hearing things I’ve never heard before or things as I’ve never heard them before…After that I decided to listen to the new Blue Sky Update while I cleaned and dampened the connectors on my room’s relative humidity. It sounds better!!!
haven’t had any issues with previous firmware, but reading comments about improved? sq i give it a try
upgraded fine via two step process in menus.
did not checked yet if grounding settings got preserved
curious to hear it once the gear will warm-up.
Seemed to save all settings for me.
… thanks, Aaronm. I’m looking very much forward to updating my unit tonight and starting first listening sessions after a short burn-in-period.
Great, Frank
Thank you Sir!
Great Video !! Thanks !!!
Why does software need to be burned in? Your chipset should already be burned in. Never heard of software being burned in.
There’s a different discussion chain on this interesting subject- @tedsmith had explained that new firmware opens up fresh pathways in the FGPA chipset. It’s something many of us have observed.
The hardware is indeed the same, but the electron flow is different. Perhaps like a national park having many paths and choosing a different one to wear down…
Thanks. I’ll check it out.
Mine is sounding great after a few hours…was easy to do, though some incompetence on my part made it take 15 minutes instead of 3 …
Hmm, I’m having some trouble with the firmware update. FPGA update went well, just as in the YouTube video but the firmware update (from 3.1) either gives me a time out error or, if it works, seems to finish loading but doesn’t go through the blinking blue light sequence to finish the firmware update.
Anyone else have this issue? Thanks
