Eversolo DMP-A8 I2S

Anyone know if the I2s output on the Eversolo DMP-A8 is (pin) compatible with the PS Audio DS DAC MK1?

I’m not sure if it’s compatible I think it’s for decoding multichannel music. And the DMP-A8 has a DAC built in.

No, it’s a true I2S output with two settings but whether the PSA standard is one of them I couldn’t find. Apparently works with Rockna DACs whatever pinout they are using.

Yes, it is compatible. I am using the 'A8 with my DS DAC.

Thanks, guys! Do you know which of the two pinouts you’re using? Don’t want to fry anything.

I am using the first. The only difference between the two I can see is whether the mute signal is high or low.

It’s compatible, but swap the channels. So what I did was swapping the input connections on my amp. The problem with that is that if I decided to use USB or any other output on your A8, I had to swap the XLRs back to their correct position. I returned the A8 and currently building an HDMI cable.

Thanks for noticing that Julio. I only listened to new music since I received the A8 and so haven’t noticed. I swapped the channels on my DAC to correct.

I sent Zidoo (makers of Eversolo) a request for providing an option in software for channel reversal in a future firmware update.

I contacted them about that. They stated that it was not possible through firmware update. I hope the guy who I emailed was wrong. Swapping pins in a HDMI cables is a tedious work. I had to invest in a LED magnifier lamp with alligators clamps (I couldn’t see those tiny cables and their colors) and I’m still working on it. Pain in the neck! I’d wish the industry follow PS Audio pinout.

I noticed on the pin-outs that the audio channels would be reversed as is the polarity. For reference here is the PS Audio Spec compared to the Eversolo pin-out.

For all of you interested:
1- Eversolo is partially compatible with PS Audio I2S implementation over HDMI. When paired channels are swapped. It might not be immediately apparent; but choosing a file with a clear channel separation, it’ll become obvious.
2- Example: For the sake of the argument, find Adele “Send My Love” (To Your New Lover) cut. She starts by saying -Just the guitar, okay, cool. That should be heard only on the left channel.
3- I finally built a HDMI cable with the right pinout by swapping 1-3 and 7-9 pins. It works but it was a pain in the rear!
4- If anyone wants to avoid the suffering of that dyi; contact Bradley Vojtech. He’s a local (FL) engineer who builds very well done customized cables. I did and I’m very happy.

By the way… as an update, I bought the A8 back. I found a good deal. I’m a happy camper now. New Eversolo and proper pinout HDMI cable.

I saw the similar thing with I think it was the Holo Red. DSD backwards, but PCM is good. Fix DSD and PCM flips. I am glad the MKII USB input is just as good as I2S, lets me try more options at streamer.

Welcome!

Thank you!

I’ll offer a plug for Paul’s stereo and speaker set cd’s that include left and right only tracks to verify correct channel identification. With the addition of a miniDSP SHD to my system, I rely on these a lot more than I ever expected to.

If it can be useful I inform you that Eversolo DMP A8 is 100% compatible with the i2s of the LAiV Harmony DAC by setting the same dac in mode 5. In this combination and with this pairing the result is stratospheric

I have Paul’s files. I can attest that after the pinout swapping, Paul’s voice comes out of the right channels. I love I2S. This guy… ah… John Darko says that I2S is audiophile’s catnip. I can’t go back to any other interface. I think Darko is right!

Hi Allan,
I have a miniDSP HD running Dirac but I’m not using it because it is only RCA. I’m using XLR cables. I’ve been looking for a miniDSP that do the correction in the digital domain. I wish I could find one with I2S input and output. That way my PS Audio Gold DAC would be in charge of the conversion.

So technically I can use A8 to DAD Sr via I2S. I just need to swap the rca cable inputs so the music plays through the left and right channels correctly?

This method would be preferred over USB?
