But I recently happed to be in a local Ekornes retailer, and I noticed a beautiful Stressless office chair just stuck near a wall, haphazardly. No price on it. I asked the salesman why it was not with the others. He said it was broken, piston would not stay in the selected position, so they just kept it around as an extra office chair for the sales team.
I looked it over carefully. The leather and the pedestal were in excellent condition. Wheels were in VG condition. Sure enough the piston wasn’t holding. I knew there was a Stressless parts place online, so I made the guy a ridiculous offer to take away a broken chair. And I mean ridiculous! He accepted the offer after complaining about it, but I reminded him the chair was broken, and it sure didn’t look like anyone was using it. I figured I’d just buy and replace the piston
Got it home, and first found the Stressless site that explains how to make sure the seat actuator is correctly positioned with respect to the piston, and saw that it wasn’t set up correctly! Ten minutes later and I had a perfectly working Stressless chair. The back is too high for my liking as a listening chair, but I’ll use it to read through my audio rags! Is not where it should be just yet.
I bought an Eames chair and found it rather uncomfortable, so gave it to a friend. We have new chairs that my wife spotted at the audio dealer, so theŷ had been tested for listening comfort. They came from a local interior designer. We ended up buying several items from him, plus wallpaper that he had up in his studio.
Alas, the Ikea Malung is no more. Grandchildren using it as a trampoline finally caused one of the steel tubes to break, and it developed a nasty list. Replaced by a Homcom recliner which doesn’t have the history of the Malung, but ticks the boxes for comfort and angle of recline. The storage area in the footstool is handy.
The IMG chairs are well built and priced reasonably. The local Dealer that sells the Ekornes Stressless chairs sells them to cover all the bases. They also go on sale regularly here in Toronto.
For my bulid at 6’5" and then some the IMG was the best fit. The local furniture store offered the Eames as well. I liked the Eames aesthetic but the IMG was a significantly better fit. Very comfortable and doesnot affect the sound in any way in my experience.
