Donald, after you put in the USB drive, click the back switch off and then on again.
No flashing lights. Then you have to go to the system page and click in system, then right click and you should get backlight page. Right click and you should get IR Status. Right click and you should get FPGA Load page where you can do the update to 198.

(Waiting for my Mark II to arrive.) Do I understand correctly that you have to go through the menu system even if there is only one version of the firmware on the USB stick? This is a big change from earlier PSA gear, where you just insert the USB drive and power cycle.
That’s correct. You need to power down, insert the stick, bootup, navigate menu, and install the FW.
Although I didn’t need to do the initial power down, it did recognise the usb drive when I did the insert while on.
I did the FPGA update first. When the unit rebooted, it picked up the firmware update off the stick. So I did not hard power off. The status screens show that both updates took.
Note: The DAC is very picky about USB sticks. Good thing I kept a cache of old ones about. The one working today is ten years old formatted in basic FAT. Can’t wait for OTA updates.
I’m a bit unclear, @tedsmith , but I’m sure you can clear it up…
Do we need to update in two passes, one for the FPGA and one for the image.bin, or can you put both files in the root directory and accomplish the update in one pass?

The play/pause ticks never occurred on 179. On 179 I only got very light ticks when going from track to track or starting an new album. Really only noticed them when using headphones.
The 198 play/pause ticks are more like a tsk (as in being scolded!). They are much louder than the 179 and can be heard very well through speakers.
I may revert back to 179 and then to 198 and see what happens. I’m not enthused about the Bluesound Node streamer (waiting for AirLens) so am thinking it may be causing some issues on what it feeds to MK2. Will reboot all and flip Antero builds

You probably already have the same version of the UI as the image.bin in the distribution zip. If you are concerned, you can check the version number screen. The UI code isn’t a part of this release but having one package seemed like the best way to distribute the release.
You have to explicitly pick the FPGA file with the menus and the image.bin update is automatic if it’s on the USB stick and different than the one you have installed.
Tip for PSAudio… make two options. The link shows 2.3.6 and thats all. No way ANYONE out side this forum knows its an upgrade. They should clearly show whats in the download and dates it was released. Only way someone can tell if they need to look for new code to try. I know thats not you Ted, but if others are watching this or you can pass along.
The update went well last night and while I was only able to listen to 3 songs after the update I heard no popping at all, and I had previously heard it somewhat frequently.

Ted: I switched back to 179 and then re-loaded 198. Getting tsk sounds on play/pause. Also noticed that when skipping tracks I am getting a double tsk (about .5 seconds apart)…tsk tsk so a real scolding now!
Have not tried different connector to MK2 or re-boot yet. That’s next.
Again, not a big issue…may get resolved with AirLens or future builds

I think I’ve heard the louder ticks like you are describing now and then and I have a work item to narrow them down. I have a test case for a slightly different problem that I’m hoping will be the same. Perhaps when I get there I can ask you to test it for me?
