FR10 Speaker

Unfortunately, Mylar isn’t high enough temperature for use in our planars.

It is difficult to try different diaphragm build-ups as you need to buy many thousands of feet (and dollars) of material laminated and etched.

I have found some very good benefits of using PEEK films (improved good damping and much higher power handling). We had to go a bit thicker with the adhesive, so the mass is a little higher (and we lose about 1 dB of sensitivity) but overall power handling and output increases more than that.

Looks like some lesson learned to be had here for PS Audio.

Was anybody from PS Audio actually present or was this a setup by a Canadian dealer? Do you actually know the facts? Or maybe just stirring a pot looking for a reaction.

I’m simply sharing. If I was PS Audio even without any any personnel onsite, the brand is still being represented, I still like to know what happened so that it can be prevented next time because my product was presented. Seems like there’s some fragile ego out there that can’t handle anything but good press. Even though this video is not saying anything bad about the speakers or PS Audio.

No fragile egos here as I don’t have a single piece of PSA gear in my main setup but if you were really concerned about what happened in Montreal you could have just forwarded the video to Chris or Paul. You chose to do it publicly instead.

Because forum is to share, both the good, the bad and the interesting. I thought this was interesting.

quite a teaser for his follow-up visit

He did say it was a setup issue and was fixed later in the day so no worries. The sky is not falling for PSA.

Just plugging in this morning. Can you elaborate on what got fixed? I was there yesterday and setup the speakers.

Indeed, the room was a real struggle and I had to pull the speakers way out into it to get it away from whatever was causing the phase problems. But, when I left, there was decent bass and pretty good imaging, but nothing like what he’s describing.

Saw this is well, possibly PS Audio can add to what Jason heard and how the system was corrected to address it.

His video said it was a wiring issue but did not elaborate.

I get that. And I share the belief that this forum is the appropriate place to share the good the bad and the ugly about all things we share a common interest in. Further, its appropriate to note and discuss both “negative things” and positive things about the FR10 in this thread.

That said, I would never have posted this particular video. It is useless and unproductive. It is useless and unproductive because it throws out a bunch of issues and fails to provide any details, does not specifically identify the problem and does not allow anyone to really determine whether the issue was with the PSA equipment, the cabling, the speaker set up or whatever. And, I surmise that we will never know.

And, frankly, the video of the sound (all such snippets sound the same to my ears on the devices I think most people watch such videos) is useless too. I can’t detect anything amiss (or good for that matter) about the sound.

Bottom line, this just seems like/results in pot-stirring to me. (Whether that was the videographer’s or your intention or not.)

If I overlooked something in the video that provided actual insight, I would appreciate being corrected.

IMO/YMMV/FWIW/To each his own…

[Addenda: Some arguably relevant insight provided around the 3:00 minute mark in the video, pending verification from the videographer…]

Cannon fodder comes to mind.

Thanks Vern.

Can you estimate where that occurred in the video?

I was a bit harsh in my response to @falling_leaves and if the point is that set up matters and it was just a general point about getting a good showing at such events. It is certainly a valuable lesson.

Thanks all.

Another YouTuber with very little to say who takes extraordinary time to say it.

These people adore hearing themselves babble

What happened, or did not happen, appears trvial and readily addressed. Mistakes can happen even under show conditions, no matter how much we wish they did not.

I just spoke to our guys at the show. Apparently, when the speakers got moved with the 20s and 10s going in and out of the system the phase got out and its fixed. Hopefully, @falling_leaves can go back and have another listen and maybe a new video. Thanks for the heads up!

It wasn’t my video Paul. Hopefully anyone visited the room yesterday, seeing the video can go back today to really enjoy the speakers.

As for the overly critical among us, looking at these things as glass half full will brighten your days. Turns out the post can be helpful after all, whay that they always say, knowledge is powerful and such…

I re-watched it, focusing on a snippet around 3:00 minutes. This video is the epitome of a no-never mind:
