iPad and iPhone IOS7 App TESTING

Which app is able to transcode?

By the way, my music from the Vortexbox “direct” to the PWD is as least as good as the in WAV transcoded with jRiver/Mac.

No control point app transcodes - it is in the server sofware.

I think what fabio060673 was saying is you can’t control the trascoding from the app.

Well E-lyrics transcode to wav and send to the DAC…any other software that can do this???

Thx

F.

Fabio, Elyric Music Manager, the server software on your computer, can transcode flac to wav. So can JRiver, foobar2000, and probably other server software. As David noted, the control point software (eLyric for iOS) does not transcode anything. The confusion probably comes from the fact that the control software and server software have the same name.

Both apps being called eLyric always confused things IMO.

With the eLyric server app set to Transcode on and “Make all albums gapless” selected…you can get gapless through the bridge. But it does have its issues. It’s worked well for me for sometime…mainly because I generally listen to complete albums 99% of the time.

This could cause some confusion for some as well since it requires Transcoding be turned on in eLyric. As we all know JRiver, or other servers, will Transcode and send data to the Bridge but Transcoding alone won’t provide gapless playback.

@helmut

Thanks! This is what I needed.

Watching movies I am using the pwd with my apple tv (optical).

Because the pwd is not in sight, I am unable to use the remote for volume control.

The elyric app always crashes when selecting optical as the input and just using the volume control without playing a uPNP music track.

This audionet app works great for this purpose.

@freek

I am glad that I could help.

The app is from a small HiFi manufacturer (like PSA?).

just wondering when working elyric will be available. been waiting since this fiasco took effect.

QNAP now not much more than a door stopper.

any advice is highly treasured.

@g.steve The update that fixes the iPhone 5 problem has been posted on the 29th. Please update.

The update still doesn't work on iPhone consistently. PWD is still grey out most of the time so you can't select it.

don’t own an iphone 5, may rush out to get one but will not. actually prefers android versions (plenty of working options).

have been using an ipad2 with elyric app. ok until updating to latest os/elyric, that basically put them to death.

now the pwd mkII is serving as a good DAC, bridge connected to network to Qnap is of not any use at the moment.

been following this forum, hooooping a working module will surface as indicated, but so far only talk/promises.

looks like light at the end of the tunnel, then it is sure one long tunnel.

so, when would we really get the finished and working routine that was actually paid for quite some time ago.

Thanks Paul for your prompt attention.

Yes, it is a pity that eLyric Controller is the only UPnP controller that has EVER been published for ANY computing device. I think that we should implore one of our forum members to write one for Android. He should call it something like BubbleUPnP and it should work really well. Until something like that happens unfortunately the PWD/Bridge is just a nice looking brick. :smiley:

@wingsounds13 I know this was tongue in cheek JP, but you bring up a good point. There are many, much better, UPnP controllers out there than eLyric and I want to encourage folks to gravitate to those. The designer of Plug Player, who designed and programmed eLyric, has basically moved on and doesn’t do much to support us at all. We’re kind of stuck in the middle of this thing.

eLyric is never going to live up to everyone’s expectations. I wish it weren’t so. We’ve just dumped another $3,000 into getting the bugs worked out for IOS7, but it has always been a buggy app and nothing else got fixed, nor will it.

I am considering simply pulling it from the app store. Too many good ones out there that enjoy the full support of their programmers.

@admin

=D>

Better to NOT be 1/2 pregnant.

Well now i Got The menu back on my iPhone 5, but thats all That have changed.

On both my iPad air and iPhone 5 both with The newest ios7 have The same problem. I vant see my Pwd but i Can see my twonky server when i look at my device list. But The App crashes as soon as i leave The device list.

So all in all my system is still useless.

@colakurt All we fixed was the disappearing menu so that makes sense. The discovery part of the app is unchanged. So this most likely happened before as well. Try rebooting everything, including the Bridge. I assure you the app is not singling out the Bridge to not display it, but choosing only to display the Twonky server. It must have something to do with the Bridge, not the app (would be my guess).

Also consider a different controller.

Since the eLyric server software is also no longer really being supported, I would strongly suggest folks still using them consider replacing both the server and controller software. For Windows users, I suggest foobar2000, which is free, and monkeymote4foobar, which costs a couple bucks for the full (paid) version. They’ve been working very well for me and, with a free plug-in, can stream gapless to the PWD (the plug-in functions in much the way as WaveStream is intended to work except it only works with foobar2000). Other people like minim server, which is available on more platforms (including Windows, Mac and linux) or JRiver Media Center (PC, Mac, and linux in development). I have used JRiver for PC and Mac with the JRemote iPad app, both of which are very good (but no gapless until, and unless, WaveStream gets released, and neither is free). I can’t speak to the controllers people are using with minim server but I believe any UPnP controller will work and I’m sure others can chime in with recommendations (including Android controller apps).

With plug player could I see the covers album my pwd?

Unfortunately it is not true...

zoicaster, could you be more specific? Are you referring to minimserver? Which part of the statement (whole thing, reference to Android apps)? What control apps do people use with it? There are certainly people on the boards who use minim server.

See http://minimserver.com/ug-browsing.html#Control points where they list the control point apps they believe to be compatible (scroll to the bottom).
