@stevem2
Í’m gettin tired of this kind of discussions!
If we buy a PSaudio PWD (i was at the demo were Paul gave a presentation and told us of the benefit of the system with the bridge “you can control it with a NAS (twonky) and a iPad”) PS audio should provide us a stable platform to control their unit!!
But for the setup with bridge and without a PC there is still no stable platform.
At least give advice in third party controllers that will create a stable platform.
For example LINN they have downloads of thirt party sw on their site.
A Sonos device (600 dollar) works without PC stable!!!

TOTALY AGREE WITH YOU!!!
I SPENT 3000€ FOR THIS DAC AND ALL THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE
but I believe any UPnP controller will work and I’m sure others can chime in with recommendations (including Android controller apps). - See more at: http://www.psaudio.com/vanilla/index.php?p=/discussion/6072/ipad-
zoicaster, could you be more specific? Are you referring to minimserver? Which part of the statement (whole thing, reference to Android apps)? What control apps do people use with it? There are certainly people on the boards who use minim server.
See Browsing your library points where they list the control point apps they believe to be compatible (scroll to the bottom).
Hi, I have a pwd II with bridge and a synology ds 212j as a NAS. I’ll will try a lot of UPnP controller on my iPad :
- with dsaudio controller i do not see the cover album
- with linn kinsky i coul play music but i can not stop
- with audionet i do not see the cover album and the words of the songs playing
- n-stream does not work
…
Audionet imm shows the labels in my system ( music on Vortexbox )
But if the eLyric App is running, it is by far the best solution!
In this moment I am trying the Marantz remote App. All plays very well
The most stable app for me is till now plugplayer but i miss the pwd controls.
As suggested before maybe PSaudio has to create an app to control the pwd functions!
The combination Kinsky Linn is almost perfect including radio streaming!!
Yes, that’s a great idea. We’ll engage our Community members to get a list of recommendations together and I’ll do so as well. Hopefully we can post something that is a good list as there are many fine controllers out there.
The idea to put together a list of recommended controllers is a start (and it will need to cover as many platforms as possible, including NAS’s) and is a good one and should help with that specific issue but it’s only one step in a process that has admittedly taken far too long.
Paul McGowan said: There are many, much better, UPnP controllers out there than eLyric and I want to encourage folks to gravitate to those. The designer of Plug Player, who designed and programmed eLyric, has basically moved on and doesn't do much to support us at all. We're kind of stuck in the middle of this thing.
Paul, thank you for this explanation. eLyric is my preferred controller; I have tried several but found nothing better, and only a couple that are almost as good. I particularly like a) the direct control of PWD functions and b) the horizontal layout of info on a white background. The former can be added to the Bridge web page, it seems, so that is handled. The latter works very well for classical music, which often displays more information than is needed for pop albums, and I find the white text on black setup that many people think looks elegant difficult to read. So I would hate to see eLyric be pulled, but at least I now understand better the difficult situation you are in.
Even with some of the nice UPnP controllers out there I still prefer eLyric controller. Even with its quirks it is easy to use, has a very good looking user interface and is of course perfectly matched to the PWD. I hope that it does not go away, and better yet I hope that PS Audio finds a good programmer to support it and keep up with Apple’s ever changing iOS. Better yet, I wish that it would be ported to Android but realize that is only a dream at this point.
Please don’t kill eLyric controller! [-O<
J.P.
And it seems that the other controllers don’t always work better than eLyric. See zoicoster’s experience above; I was also just talking to someone for whom Synology’s Audio Station does not work, even though it works fine for me. The whole thing seems to be a bit of a crap shoot.

Thanks guys I am really squeezed here. This was never a venture to make money, but it sure cost a lot. We’ve spend in excess of $30K getting eLyric programmed (far more getting the interface designed) and recently dumped another couple of G’s into just making it compatible with IOS7. It was always a side project for Howard, the designer of Plug Player. He, like many app programmers, has a “real” job as a programmer and did this as a sideline venture. He has now all but lost interest in it.
The apps out there that work really well, even Plug Player, have far fewer bugs and problems than eLyric. That’s because they have dedicated programmers who are making money off their apps. The way we have the model setup, I think we get about $1.50 every time one sells, the rest going to Apple and Howard. That’s fine, as I said, we never did this to make money, just support our products and make it “easy” and “fun” to operate our equipment.
Now that we are down the road, older and wiser, we are stuck with a tough call. I do not believe the app has ever lived up to our expectations nor yours. I don’t have the resources to get it to do that. It’s a very complicated app and complicated because of UPnP, which can be very trying to get it to play nice with everything. Just look at any of the other apps and see their forums and update lists. Most are filled with complaints, fixes, more fixes, etc.
I don’t want to keep selling a product we have no control over to fix what’s wrong. That doesn’t feel right, isn’t good for the brand, the company or how much sleep I get in any one night.
I am open to reasonable suggestions. Barring any of those, I will kill this app from the store probably sometime early 2014.
Why not release it into the wild and perhaps some young energetic code writer will revive and continue it.
why not…if it’s open source…

Paul, really? Kill the eLryic app? I consider eLryic the centerpiece of your system. The elegance of controlling my music collection with eLryic is one of the most important reasons i migrated to the PWDAC/Bridge along with your recommendation of a Twonky NAS. I can’t imaging you would rely on “others” to control your DAC/Bridge? This not only becomes real inconvenience for me but seems to be a risky business model for you as well? Love your products but killing eLryic would be a MAJOR disappointment. I recognize creating new products is much more exciting than supporting old ones but I submit supporting us who have drank your delicious Koolaid is important.
Paul, kill eLyric app is not a solution…
A lot of people, like me, migrated to PWD/Bridge only for controlling my music collection with a PS Audio App and without a PC. In other case I’ll buy Naim or Linn or Lumin or …
The product we make is the PWD and Bridge, which we fully support. eLyric as a controller has never been as good as other controllers, that control the PWD/Bridge combo. I would never consider any path that did not fully support our products. I am not sure why this comes across as doing that.
The PC is not necessary with any other app.
Also, consider that “killing” the app doesn’t mean it goes away, it simply means it won’t be available to new owners as we make good suggestions to move them over to something that works better.
Like I wrote, I am open to suggestions. I am not hearing any. I am not going to invest more company resources into eLyric. The next time Apple changes the OS again, it’ll have to be revamped to fit - but it still has bugs we do not have the ability to fix.
We do not have infinite resources. We have to make tough decisions of where to place them. Right now those much needed resources are going into supporting existing products as well as new ones. Nearly half our resources are quietly at work making sure what we have works as well as it should and can. The entire team is currently working on solving the pops problem in PWD’s.
Again, open to suggestions.
Its hard to believe that a software upgrade from Apple would just kill this thing outright. Sounds like it was living on the edge to begin with. No question it has it quirks, but there was following here that put up with them and enjoyed the software. Yes, it’s essentially useless now. It won’t even launch on my iPad at this point.
So it seems pretty clear from previous posts that Paul is going to pull the plug on eLyric. If so, why wait to pull the app in 2014? Get it gone now. If it’s junk, why leave it out there? Instead, take the plunge and come out with a “short” list of preferred solutions and clear and concise methods/instructions for getting them to work. And please don’t assume we are technically brilliant like many of the folks here. eLyric was easy to understand, easy to install, and just worked when it was released. Many of use don’t have the time or desire to become network specialists. We just want something simple that works.
So if PSA is going to do this, do it now and provide us with two or three simple solutions and appropriate instructions for making them go. Just listing a couple dozen controllers that users seem to like isn’t a good idea. Be careful that you don’t create more frustration by just listing some other options and saying, “Here you go. You figure it out”.
It’s crunch time now for PSA to make this right for those that have made the investment in the bridge. No use fretting over the demise of eLyric if the decision’s made. Let’s just get on with a suitable solution or two and do it in a logical and pain free manner.
