New SR Master fuse review vs AM M1 and Purple to follow

Didn’t James say the current flow from the back towards the front panel? But I like the S away from the holder too for the generator. My other SR fuses are in the opposite directions of P15. This combo works better in my system anyway.:man_shrugging:

Here is a pix that our friend waymanchen posted for us on the directionality of the SR Master fuse
with respect to the fuse cap holder…

Hope this helps…

Just put it all in a blender…and then pour into the fuse holder…no more need to
orient the fuse in a certain way   :innocent:

Ja ja ja…

Well, I was looking at the metal top of the fuse, not from the side. So, I don not know if mine is the same direction as you and Waymenchen’s.

But I have switched five times in three days of listening, each time I prefer this current setup so I am done! :+1:

That is quite a few changes…the main and most important thing remains…and that is
you like how it sounds best for you… the way you now have it :clap:t2: :clap:t2: :clap:t2:

Can be challenging sometimes…But you got it now…

Today, my system sounds absolutely mesmerizing! Never has the sound been so immersive. The images are so thick with so much separation and air and so solid. And most of all, so natural with so much ease as only a PS Audio DAC can sound. This Master fuse just brings out the best from this MK2 DAC. The sounds is so powerful, and really brings out the skin tingling low energy like I never heard before. I thought I must have turned up the volume, but no, I checked and it is the same volume I always play this recording. But it sounds louder and more dynamic than before. I used the Octave recording “The Art Of Hifi, Volume 1 Bass”. Incredible DSD256 file, if your system is up to it, it will totally blow your socks off, and this Master fuse really enhances the power even more.

That could explain why my system sounded better lately. But I am also evaluating a new Gustard fuse in PST. Could it be that both fuses are helping the SQ?

waymanchen … how many hours on your Master fuse now?

Hey sheridd2

You were asking waymanchen about the hours on his SR M1 fuse thus far…

Hope you don’t mind my jumping in…

My SR Master now has 672 hours run time…

Differences regarding dacs…is that waymanchen has the newer better PS DS Dac MkII,
mine is the previous MKI dac… so his system in many ways is more evolved and refined
than mine…his MK II is using the SR Master as well…while MkI is purely stock.

The interesting thing is that I am experiencing much of what he is. From my end I can
affirm all that waymanchen has reported…with regard to sound quality…

My fuses are SR Master in my P15, AM M1 in my Parasound JC5…sound is parallel with
waymanchen’s… his is more refined…

Currently have sidelined my W4S STP SE Stage 2 preamp (from before the SR Master coming home).
I found that my Oppo 205 direct to my amp was far more engaging than through my pre…

It is with the Oppo 205 direct to JC5 amp that I ran my SR Master evaluation vs other fuses.

So then the old curiosity got hold of me and re engaged my PS DS dac MkI fed by my Oppo 205
using a DH Labs Siver Sonic spdif cable to MkI DS dac.

Not having used the DS MkI dac with the new SR Master now in my P15…was I in for a surprise…
What a surprise…a wonderful one to boot!!..

Will I upgrade the fuse in my DS dac MkI…hard to say …Have seen the videos which make it
seem simple but requires a lot of caring attention…not so sure I want ot go for it or not.

Would very much like a MK II but ran into some very expensive ac work at home and my car
double whammy…so eating up some $$$$ set aside for gear.

So there we have it in a nutshell…

Best wishes everyone

It’s been 28 days, so like David, about 600 hours. There are people who thinks the Master does not take much break-in because it sounds so good right from the start, but even now after so many hours, the Master is sounding more and more refined with less distortion. In other words, it is smoother with even more detail and solidity.

David, the MK1 will really benifit from not only a better power cord, it will respond to a better fuse too. Even a SR Purple or M1 would bring more lucidity to the sound. Just remove the four screws from the bottom of the unit that is holding it together and use these suction cups from Amazon to pull the top off. It’s not really that difficult.

So kind of you waymanchen to share again the simplicity of removing the MkI’s cover…

Would you have a pix of the fuse location. Understand there are 2 …which size and value
is the one that you changed so I can follow your path…

As fas as power cords, indeed upgraded that one quite a while back …yes the pc make a great
improvement…

Appreciate your support…

David, you may want to watch this video to see how the cover of the DAC is removed.

On this picture, the 2 rectangular black covers on left of IEC connector houses the fuses. The one labeled digital I believe is the one you want to replace, the other is a spare. The power runs from the back of unit to the front, so that is the direction you should use. Use a slow blow 5x20mm 1A fuse. Good luck!

Thank you for taking the time to get me the illustration…with fuse values as well
as direction of power flow :clap:t2: :clap:t2: :clap:t2: :clap:t2:

FYI.

SEE

Do these leave any lingering marks on the top of the DAC? Mine is flawless and I would like to keep it that way if possible.

TIA

I use a similar sucker, and it left two round marks on P15. I was placing a 3M absorbent sheet on inside the lid. These marks are still there now, and I am not sure how to clean it.

It did not seem to have made any marks on my MK1 when I used it. I also used it on my P20 with no problem. You have to be careful when you release the vacuum and not rub the lifter against the cover. When I returned my MK1 for trade in, I did not see any marks on it. But you probably can clean it with polishing compound and buff it out if you marred it.

SDFB is well and good except I do not want to add another external device and another power cord if I don’t have to. I like to keep it simple.

Given the reputation of “better” fuses impacting the sound of the MK I, I can’t help but wonder if there is no fuse like no fuse.

I have a used SR Orange fuse waiting in the wings as well so I hope to eventually get to try and compare the “Fuse Box” with the SR Orange.

Cheers.

Going back to read some of my posts, and I had it wrong in one post in terms of the fuse direction that I prefer in my system. So, here are two pictures of the Master in cap. Davida has the same direction I believe, but Waymenchen and others have the opposite directions. So, one really needs to try both directions to find the preference. My two Purples in other gears have the opposite directions in fact.
