Luca, yes. Apart from needing tools to take off the cover, the board replacement was easily done by hand. Of course make sure you ground yourself before getting your hands inside the unit.
Thank you Tony, oh during last days I became an expert in removing the lid from a regenerator! Donāt tell my wife Iām doing these kind of things, as per her I normally need the help of our electrician even to replace a bulb!
How unfortunate indeed! Problems with each and every PSA unit you received. That is nuts! I feel your pain, and have had similar experience with their components. Luck of the draw I suppose as others report no issues out of the box. As others have noted, PSA needs to step up their quality control.
Iāve just had a few emails directly with Paul, heās personally following my issue from now on. I agree with you, frequent issues might compromise the reputation of the brand and I say that full of sympathy/empathy I felt growing during last years about PSA. As proud member of a family, so to speak. My appreciation for Paul has been often enough to mitigate my (frequent) frustration.
Glad to hear its working out and that Paul is taking ownership of the issue(s). Good luck with your Power Plant and the Puritan as well.
Thanks for the patience through all of this Luca. As Tony mentioned, itās rather easy (plug and play) to replace the card. Iām guessing Steve sent a guide with pictures but let me know if you need anything more.
Thank you PSA! Just received a new oscillator board and replaced the faulty one. It fixed the issue and now the P15 is working again.
Unfortunately the buzz from the transformer is still there though.
One fix at a timeā¦
Luca, sorry if you already mentioned this, but have you checked to make sure the bolt holding down the transformer is snug?
Yep, and also tightened it as much as possible when I opened it.
Next days Iāll try putting the Puritan PSM 156 between the wall and the P15 (I know it is not recommended), just to hear what happens. Now Iām too tired and happy enough itās working againā¦
I wonder if you could insulate the transformer from the chassis with a piece of rubber and remove the center bolt or maybe bolt thru the rubber.
Maybe you could pot it in some sort of 2 part material.
Potting compound would work well but I donāt know if it would make the trafo overheat.
The more expensive gear does pot the transformers but I donāt know if it will adversely affect the temperature or not.
Thanks, also Vmax suggested to put a piece of sorbothane under the transformer.
Iām wondering how dangerous it would be, as per warranty and most of all if itās safe?
DC blocking and perfect isolation of the toroidal transformer should be part of the design and applied by the manufacturer during production, due to their importance achieving optimal performances in a component like this. Am I wrong?
You are right but some put damping material under the transformers and some donāt. If there is slack in the wiring harness and room on the bolt for the nut to tighten back down no harm in putting a sheet of damping material under it and a silicone washer between the nut and the top of the transformer.
Given the transformer bolts to bottom of chassis. Adding conductive Sorbothane sheet that doesnāt build up static should not harm anything. Not sure I would pot the transformer but it is common practice at many manufacturers.
Stuck on initialization
So am I
I am having the exact same issue with my P15 which is only a few months old and hardly used as I have been traveling quite a bit as of lateā¦
I will notify my dealer and email Paul directly as has been mentioned previously. Hope its a quick fix even if it requires a partial Board replacement. Fingers Crossed!
Have you already reinstalled the last updated firmware via SD card?
Have you cycled the power using the switch on the back?
just in caseā¦try unplugging from wall too
I have found that simply turning power off on somethings does not clear settings ācacheā, but unplugging and waiting a couple minutes before replugging will
Thanks for all the feedback guys⦠Very much appreciate it.
luca - I have not⦠again, this was just purchased a few months ago and has hardly been used as I have been away. I was not aware there was one. I did use it a few days ago and everything was fine. I shut it down with the remote which as you know turns it off on a standby mode. When I checked on it earlier today, the screen was On just like the photo that I posted aboveā¦
gthiel - Since I could not switch it off with the remote nor the blue lit button on the front, I switched it off at the back and just left it off for now after checking this Forum and finding this thread.
akro - Will do this as soon as I get the chance⦠probably later tonight as Iām away from it at the moment.
Thanks once again guys!
Iām just suggesting to download the firmware file from the website (see download section). Not for a newest version just to reload it. It may help when itās stuck.
Please also unplug the power cord from the P15 and wait almost 10/15 minutes.
Good luck.
PS: in my case the display was different, see pic
