PST Firmware Update 2.4.4 is Available

I don’t get auto-play either way.

I will do these on my unit if auto play back on the play ctrl on unit or remote under non-dim does not work.

  1. Factory Reset the unit from the menu
(After main power back, Might need to select the layer default to SACD, otherwise, it will only play the CD layer on SACD)
  2. Main power off, pull out all connections, pull out the power cord, wait for a while, connect the power cord back, (no connection yet), power back on, try the auto play see if this will work. Time to talk to PSA support, if not working.

This is what I did when my unit starts to acting up, and usually fix the problem. However, for some music files that won’t play on my unit, this won’t fix the problem. Luckily, today I rarely (almost none) play music files, since after beta testing my unit year ago, I realized my unit only do one thing very well - play disk.
As long as my unit play disk ok, I will not worry too much on these bugs.

I brought this issue up before in a separate thread. I got the impression PS Audio has no intention of changing the functionality to make it work that way.

As for the push twice on remote when DIM, indeed, a “special” feature on PST.
However, after remote dim all my PSA gears, I go back to un-dim the PST, since I like to monitor the playback on my PST also to monitor the heart beat (If playback counter is frozen, it’s time to main power cycle my PST!.)

I wish someone from PS Audio could explain why some units fail to do over the air updates. I have the same issue, it’s never worked once.

I know sometimes it’s not in the right place on the PSA server. My unit could see it there, but failed to update. It’s worked as designed probably 4 or 5 times before, so I know my unit can do it. Weird.

But my PST has never failed to update without issue. Weird.

Did you try turning it all the way off before update vs. standby? Not that you should need to. Anyway, it was good for me to learn the thumb drive process. Used to SD with DSD firmware.

Updated my PST to 2.4.4 through the network download. No issues so far.

@james-k-m Oh. I’ve just put a help desk ticket in saying my transport was broken and this was a bug
Anyway. Isn’t that what CD players have to do out of the box? Okay - I’m only on my 3 or 4th (I often forget to count my Myryad MC100) in the last 40 years, so I haven’t had that many, buuut …

Yea, the Oppo and Marantz players I’ve owned have always had flawless interfaces. Also, when the tray is open and you power off (to standby) the tray closes first. Not with the PS-Audio.

I remember a note from PSA regarding usb stick size ( can’t find it now) but it stated to not use anything over 8 gb to do fw updates.

There was a thread discussing music file playing through USB port, and the conclusion was the smaller sized usb sticks work better. The music files need to be stripped of metadata without subdirectories.

I could use up to 64g stick for music files, but I used an 8g stick for updates.

It took me a while to “pull the trigger” and upgrade my DMP to the PST, the October sale price pushed me to do the upgrade. My main concern was having a piece of gear where the mechanical mechanism, which in my experience is the thing that fails over time, could not be repaired. My DMP was quite flakey with its performance, but did sound really good. When my PST arrived I was pleasantly surprised by how much better it sounded, mostly with “regular” CDs! I consistently heard new things playing albums I was really familiar with! The stereo image and soundstage were noticeably improved. But the thing I noticed most was an improvement in the “tonality” of acoustic instruments and voices.

I’m probably going to get killed for saying this, but when I’m done listening, I fully power down my DAC and transport, as I don’t have the opportunity to listen every day. I find it only takes about 10 minutes of “warm up” for the pieces to sound their best!

I’ve had no adverse issues with my PST and am super glad I “pulled the trigger” in October! Since the new firmware wasn’t described as improving the sound quality, I’ll pass on applying it.

FW2.4.4 further fixing the unit locked-up/unresponsive problem. It is a problem being observed since the beta testing year ago. Each subsequent FW releases improve the stability of the unit.
I keep my PST updated. (After all, PST and DSDAC are effectively computers.)

I just had my first bit of “fiddliness” with mine. It had been in standby (rear switch on, logo button dark) for several days, and when I pushed the logo button to bring it to life, nothing happened. No illuminated logo button, nothing in the display. I quick off/on in back fixed it. Just a little oddity that I hope was a one-off.

Hope it is an isolated case. Enjoy the music.

It’s happened to me numerous times, along with a few other bizarre symptoms. It’s like the PST goes into a coma, and needs to be resuscitated from time to time.

Happened to me repeatedly as well, and on its last breath it happened to take my DSD with it to it’s eternal resting place, RIP. Neither survived to ultimately make it to a lofty position in the “museum”, my home for cast-offs and shining stars who aged gracefully into oblivion.

I haven’t done the upgrade. My PST / DSD (modded) duo is giving me the best sound I have ever had with very few problems. I may do the next upgrade if there is one that offers significant change, right now I’m not messing with a very well-functioning unit.
