A used Jays CDT3 is an option. Got mine from TMR. They don’t come up often, but sometimes you can get lucky.
Great review.
Bargain is a relative term. I fall in the middle! I dont think anyone would be disappointed with the choices below…
$2,700 Teac
$5,0000 Jays
$40,000 Gryphon
My understanding is the Teac is limited in output options, coax SPDIF, and optical/Toslink. Not a deal breaker, but certainly a difference. The VRDS is a solid and known to be reliable transport. Worth consideration if your set-up easily accommodates SPDIF. The Jay’s is overbuilt IME.
I know it’s an old model out of production but anyone has experience about this?
For you gents looking to upgrade your CD experience and don’t want to fork out Ethos money for Ethos performance look at this if you have a DAC you already love! Beware it’s not a light weight player.

The matching DAC is also available from the seller. This transport I believe is @aangen and @minnesotafats approved. I enjoyed listening to it also.
Oh that is the deal of the year! Wow!
The MBL 1621A is the equal to the Gryphon Ethos in digging out the most from Redbook CDs. It does not have a DAC. Or an i2s output. But F me, does it dig out sound!!!
If you could only keep one transport, which would it be?
The consensus view pushes for the Jay’s with I2S and nuclear bunker construction, that being said, how many have heard both products on a daily basis … I’m not one to get drawn into discussions that’s based on speculative conjecture.
My hat tips to the unspeakably wonderful Teac. ‘But that’s how I hear it’! You would have to hear them both together.
Smart!
I looked it up the MBL transport is 57 pounds. One time during a Kyomi visit George asked me to help him get the MBL transport out of his car. When I picked it up it felt like 100 pounds!
Jay’s…Teac…Jay’s…Teac…reviews…specs…opinions…well meaning suggestions…repeat…enthusiastic guidance…Jay’s…Teac…Jay’s…Teac…huzzah!
Luxman D-03X Got a good deal; I know a guy.
It is just ones and zeros.
Yup
And front loader
And it’s pretty
And it’s silver
And good local service
And add CDT3 plus Teac, divide by 2, subtract a buck three eighty, throw in a free lunch and done deal.
I just read a review of the D-03X. It reviews well. Fun! (lists for $4,195)
Inside view:
Using the balanced outputs of this DAC equipped player is said to make a huge difference over the single ended outputs.
Solved!
I’ll probably use it as a transport. I like my modded DSD MK1.

Is on sale at at 40% discount. Almost pulled the trigger myself, then practiced self restraint.
I did that once. I didn’t like it.
I wonder if they make their own CD transport mechanism and is it still available?
