Good point but I have heard over many years some people have been hooking them up this way for some time.
Thank you for your reply.

I’m a Rel High Level cable guy. Have worked well for me. I guess trying it both ways can’t hurt if one is so inclined.
Are your amps Class D or differentially balanced?
That’s great news. I know you showed one portion of your space, can you show a photo(s) of your whole setup?
Many thanks!!
Here is my current placement setup. I recently sold a couple of pairs of speakers ( Cornwalls and Magnepan 20.7s). I received these KEF R3’s as partial trade on the Cornwalls. I’m liking the KEF sound so far and may go way high up in their line. Keeping my options open for now and sitting on my hands and wallet. Anyways here is it is:

Great question.
Did not think of this before.
Balanced amplifier.
If care is not taken when using the high level connection with a Class D or balanced amp you can most certainly get a hum as their negative terminals are not true ground. You can also under some circumstances damage the amps in some of the REL models so from his perspective using the preamp outs is the safer and quieter option.
Thank you.
Just was reading about this.
My Sub is quite quite and no hum.
Forgot to mention I am using it in multi channel system.
Think I just found in the REL manual that in this case the way in which I have it hooked up is correct.
Glad it’s all working well for you. Just so you know the owner of Rythmik subs encouraged me to do the same thing your REL dealer did for the same reason even though I told him I had been connecting line level with Vandersteen subs for almost fifteen years and knew the safe work arounds. In the end for many of them it’s about avoiding warranty claims.
Great to hear back from you.
I have had it hooked up in this arrangement since I first purchased the Sub a few years ago.
Was not going to disagree with my dealer.
After reading your reply,
this seems to be why it is hooked up this way.
Think having a multi channel amp. has something to do with this as well.
Just looked at Mr. Hunters speaker set up video.
Makes a lot of sense.
