Swiss Digital Fuse Box, the fuse reinvented

Let’s not leave out the Audio Magic balloon.

Maybe I should also order a pure silver one to be safe.

Don’t give them any more crazy ideas they come up with enough of them on their own.

It’s only going to work if you have a black box to sit on.

I know this was brought up earlier but why does a stereo even need a fuse when a toaster, coffee maker or clothes dryer does not?

I would think it is because those devices do not have any elements that could be damaged by excessive current draw. Consumer electronics have transformers that if pushed beyond their current handling capacity can overhead and catch fire.

I’m confused, but that’s nothing new, but what does this SDFB replace?
Isn’t everything “downstream” from it still there?

  1. The fuse is replaced by a “sluggo” which is a conductive rod of copper or whatever. (Remember Uncle Harold who twitches and slurs his speech after replacing a fuse with a penny?)
  2. The SDFB thas an electro-mechanical circuit breaker to assume the safety function of the fuse.

A metal rod replaces the subject fuse.

The SDFB is a “ breaker” which trips to break the circuit, and can be reset, v. the replaced fuse which would “blow” to break the circuit.

In other words, what quick-fingers @RonP wrote.

@RonP @scotte1 Thanks. My level of explanation.

And they claim the switch is faster than a fuse. Definitely on my wish list, and getting closer. Just got my shipping notification from Theoretica!!:clap:

Hi @Baldy, that device uses heat as a trigger from that description you posted. I believe the Swiss digital fuse senses magnetic inductance and triggers faster than a fuse.

Wonderful! Look forward to hearing your feedback in the BACCH forum!

@dchang05 - I don’t see the rhodium silver rod on the verafii website. Is that after market?

I’m very interested in all the views on different sluggos!

Various Sluggos are also available from other providers. On Aliexpress from Xangsane there are various in silver. Efuse has some and so do some other retailers. Kemp Elektronik in the Netherlands also has some.

Vielen Dank!! There’s no end to the happy merry-go-round in hi-fi!

By the way, re-posting a question that I put in an aftermarket fuse forum for BHK amps (where folks reckon also replacing the rail fuses makes a big difference):
If one were to use a Swiss Digital Fuse Box for a. BHK300 amp, how would this impact the varying fuse amperages given the different fuses that it requires? Presume you’d go for the highest BHK fuse amperage rating for the SDFB but still need the lower amperage fuses instead of sluggos where the fuse rating is below the SDFB?

Hooray Hooray Hooray!!!

@Stier2704 answered for me, thanks! It supposed to be here by 15th, but I will be on vacation from 16th.

I’ve also thought about the problem with different fuses in one device. Efuse from Germany has an internal option. Unfortunately, the prices are significantly higher than the SDFB. I hope that there will be more providers like this soon or that Efuse will lower the prices.:joy:
