I shut down the system to let the new sluggo running overnight. Unlike the two came with SDFB (sounds the same with either direction), I heard one direction is clearly better than the other. With the right direction I really like it. Tomorrow I’ll give it a better judgement.
I like IF50 NCF plugs a lot, and I have one use IF48 and the same other one with IF50, and I preferred IF50. This old PSA is sounding better than AQ Thunder, Purist Audio Colossus, Cullen, Anticable to name a few, and it is even sounding much better than the same PSA cord I bought at the same time years ago. It has the cheapest plugs on both ends too. I believe this cord was assembled with some magic touch so I have kept for the past 20 years. Now I will put the best plugs on it and use it as pigtail. When I used it the first time I was really surprised about how great the system sounded.
Well, it had one hour in the system so I don’t want to rush to judgment. I will need to put back the copper to confirm what I heard was real. Netflix tonight!
The other PSA cable is exactly the same? Same length, plug and cable lugs when used? Maybe it’s done the other way around. Cables also have a preferred direction. I just meant that you might be able to get used, good condition FI 50 connectors and cables cheaper. You have to be careful with Furutech connectors as there are many replicas floating around. Like this one for example. The Furutech 55 cable is not the most neutral, but it doesn’t convince cable lovers otherwise either. The stage is very wide, a little more energy in the highs. Dynamically a cable that sounds like live music. But not neutral. Maybe someone is selling a short Furutech dps-4.1 or a Zenwave with FI 50 connectors cheaper than the connectors in stores. I was lucky 4 years ago. I also paid the same price for the 52 C19. This now costs almost €500 and the FI 50 just under €400. There is almost no discount on this in Germany. If you like it, recycling is always good. Have you ever tried a wall-to-box Dragon to see what difference it makes? At first you couldn’t really decide between Dragon and Zenwave… now the chance to combine both.
When I tried the Dragon it also made a difference and more dynamics from the wall to the power plant. The effect on the amplifier seemed greater to me. In the end I decided on the DPS-4.1. When I compare price and performance, the Dps-4.1 wins. It doesn’t have the aha effect of a Dragon and doesn’t have that irrepressible dynamic that so impressed me. It works on every component with constant performance. No matter whether it is a large amplifier, a power plant or a source with little power requirement. It is unobtrusive without standing out in any way. But you can’t really find any faults that you can criticize. The reverberation of the environment is just as pronounced as with a silver cable like the Dragon but it also has the sound of a copper cable. I found that in my comparison the DPS-4.1 was between the Dragon and the Firebird. I also liked the Audioquest Firebird, less dynamics and details with a narrower stage than the Dragon. But it shaped bodies more tangibly than I had ever heard from my system and offered a nice depth. Wood sounded so wonderfully natural with the Firebird and voices had chests. The Dps-4.1 has more depth than the Dragon, and the soundstage is almost as large. Details and reverberation at a similarly high level. It seems less dynamic. But if dynamism is required, it can be just as frightening as the Dragon. The bass has more weight but is not bloated. Furutech Fp-s55n with Fi-50 ncf connectors For Sale - US Audio Mart
Buying used cables are always risky especially when Furutech plugs are involved. Who knows if previous owner didn’t replace the plugs since they’re valuable. I get mine from the Cable Company so it’s legit.
The other PSA was at the same length and looked the same. I used to run them for my mono block until I changed cables. We are talking about a pigtail here and I don’t want to go crazy on spending on a Dragon. The cord between FB and P15 makes a far more auditable difference.
I wouldn’t put my hand in the fire for that.
You’ve said often enough that it’s your last purchase.
Even for the Fi 50 connectors, some people think we’re stupid. Except Al and Luca with their stealth cables. Ok, maybe they’ll laugh at us because we’re busy with petty things.
A second for amp is a great move, and I believe FB benefits high power gear more than sources. The improvement is more than any expensive cables, even Stealth.
Am I crazy, or is a good option to “cut” a cord and put the SDFB in the middle hard wired? I know cutting a cord that cost 2-5k sounds crazy, but seems logical to me. Again I dont have either…just an outsider looking in.
Today I tried the pigtail with Viborg plug again, PSA cord sounded better still. The bass on the pigtail is the weak point, it just doesn’t go lower enough compared to the old PSA. I will have to order Furutech plugs while I am on vacation next week.
