That’s a good description imo. Especially the Class A amps have very good resolution generally, fine, silky highs, great harmonic structure, extension and level in deep bass. That’s impressing and helps a lot of speakers sound organic.
They are just the opposite of tubes imo (although some tell so, due to a pleasant character). Those who love tubes for their real strengths and those with a focus on prat and speed, notice limitations. Otherwise the Gryphons are really impressive sounding.
After spending months making final determinations as to where the RPG BAD Arc curved (Binary Amplitude Diffuser) panels and the flat custom BAD scatter plates (Seven Audio) best performed, I spent the last few weeks upholstering, finishing, and permanently mounting them.
While it’s still a rather busy looking room, it sounds great for both stereo and multi-channel. Now I can stop apologizing to visitors (there have been many as of late) for the unfinished appearance…
You should offer your services as a room design consultant to aangen, who is expecting big things to come his way, A pair of Gryphon APEX monoblocks and a pair of MBL Radialstrahler Extremes. Room appointments must be able to withstand the curiosity of multiple rabbits.
I have room envy…or at least room treatment we envy What are the dimensions of your room h x w x l and how far is the sweet spot and relative speaker positions?
Ha! I have nearly exact sag marks in the leather in my sectional in the sweet spot. FYI, a heat gun applied carefully can make them disappear. In my case for only one sitting.
Thanks for the kind words all! Room dimensions are 20’7(L)’ x 14’(W) x 11’(H) @minnesotafats.
For stereo, the front L & R monitor front baffles are 5’ off the front wall
Front L & R are 8’ apart center-to-center and 9’ from the listener’s ears at the MLP.
The front and rear subwoofer pairs are each a few inches off their respective walls and their “acoustic centers” are located at .25 & .75 of their adjacent walls.
It’s actually an RP10 modded with a P10 dust cover and yes I removed the stock feet and replaced with orea feet with the lightest weight version in the front right corner which has the least mass. Works great.
I have a Planar 8 with the Apheta 3 MC and suggest getting accustomed to it prior to making and modifications. Mine remains stock. It has a nice open airy sound to my ear. The Planar 10 is a nice step up from the Planar 8. I’d suggest the Planar 10 over modifying the Planar 8. Just my opinion. I stumbled into a once in a lifetime deal on my Planar 8, so I didn’t hesitate on purchasing it.
Haha, we sound like we’re on the same page with the 3, that was specifically why I went for it because I could make some mods over time.
I added the Groove Tracer Reference sub platter, Orea Bronze feet and got a custom dust cover built for it out of high grade perspex which just sits on the plinth as I needed the extra clearance for the rather chunky Ortofon Quintet Black S. Unfortunately I snapped the cantilever on my Quintet Black S, so am currently running a 2M Blue, but intend on getting the Quintet replaced as it’s a stunning cart.
