The DMP experience

Can you get in touch with us on Monday to figure this out for you? We’d be happy to get this working right.

I had the problem where an sacd is read as pcm. The solution was to shut off the unit with the power switch and restart it. About a week later, same problem and same solution. A simple process but obviously we want the problem to go away permanently, right?

I carried out a full reboot as per andolink instructed including the recalibration of the screen and it worked … Who knows why ?

It’s the seemingly limitless permutations of quirks, almost bespoke to each DMP, that I find strange / perverse !

I have bought a p 10 about 3 months ago. I have not delivered it at this time at my dealer of Ps audio equipment. The reason for this is that I’ve had trouble with all my PS audio equipment. So, in September, I’ll get my new P 10 and my new ways of proceeding is that I tell myself in advance that it’s a bit of rubbish I’ve bought. laugh out loud. The reason for this is that I will not be disappointed with any problems with my new P 10 lol. Then I do not get into the forum and get stupid. There is a fantasy support for PS audio and here in the foyer. It deserves all my praise. I only need the DMP so my PS audio system is complete. But I’m somewhat nervous after I’ve read about all the problems that are with the DMP lol. I love my PS audio equipment and will totally sleep with it under the headboard. So you are loved both the forehead and PS audio. Even ELK, I start to love a little lol.

I currently use my PS equipment along with less speaker in the one room
Buchardt Audio Denmark - Our new 2 way speaker S 400* - *Rogers LS 3/5 Infinity Modulus with sub - It plays super well with small as big speakers. More love from Denmark

I will Call Jeremy on Monday to discuss this particular issue with him.

Dirk it will work for a short time. Play a number of CD’s than attempt to play an SACD it will come back. I believe the Screen recalibration did not have anything to do with the temporary fix. It the the reboot that always makes it work temporarily.

Your two mails arrived in the early hours of the morning when I was in bed.

Like I said before I don’t have any issue now since I carried out the full procedure .

After I powered down completely - draining away all the DMP’s power - fully. I left the DMP disconnected from cabling through the night. Reconnected the mains cable in the morning, rolled back to 2.08 - plus reboots, reinstalled 3.06 ( beta files ), recalibrated the screen, rebooted twice…….!

Since doing all of the above - all is well - my DMP hasn’t faltered once !!
You may well be correct stating that recalibrating the screen on its own won’t make a difference but, saying that, it was part of the procedure - so that’s all I have to go with?!

I have been playing CDs & SACDS regularly but this morning I have played tracks from 5 CDs and 5 SACDs, alternating between them, I am definitely hearing the SACD layer plus, the DMP displays as such… Also: I hear the clicks & pops just like a static discharge that I have heard from day one since installing Redcloud on some of my SACDs. And: If I reduce the DS volume the clicks & pops disappear. So that is also an indication to me that the SACD layer is playing / along with the data displayed on the DMP screen and that of the DS.

I don’t know if this is relevant: I never switch my equipment off . So I don’t know if this could be relevant/significant factor to my circumstance and yours ? I only switch off the tubes from all my BHK’s - but just now during the warm weather I am using solid state amplifiers and they too are permanently powered.

The complexities of DMP ownership and functionality, for the most part, “Ab asino lanam” !!

Wool from an ass [donkey] = Ab asino lana
Funny expression…

Yes, and blood from a stone impossible.

I don’t know… Seems like we should not have to go through all the mumbo jumbo power up and power down sequencing in order to find a fix… when what we really need is a fully functioning OS code… self reliant fixes ain’t going to cut it here folks, but programming savvy will.

That was the crux of it with my “Ab asino lanam”. sixpack1can’t get his DMP to function with power-downs and reboots, etc. whereas my DMP now works fine since carrying out the full procedure. Getting a consistent set of fixes for the same, or similar quirks/problems, is akin to getting blood from a stone … impossible. Drives me crackers. But we are only a week or so away from PSA addressing these issues ---- hopefully !

Yes, stay tuned.

When my unit switches to PCM playback of the SACD is after playing about 10 CD’s and than throw in a SACD. It seems ok alternating one than the other. I will say that my DMP NEVER had this issue with 1.94 2.06 2.08. This only appeared with 3.06.

We as audiophiles do not like compressed audio files. Maybe it is the fact that PS Audio is zipping the load files is what is causing the issues with the variable results. The load files are not very large I would love to see them posted uncompressed and see if that makes for a consistent performance from all the users!

Apples and oranges.

Compressed audio files remove data to make them smaller. A Zipped file merely removes blank space to make it smaller to make transfer from system to system quicker.

I tried to replicate the problem that you are experiencing - but my DMP is working fine … I have played several CDs since I posted my reply to you this morning, I’ve just tried an SACD and it is working as it should.

For the most part my DMP is functioning Ok. Still get the splash of sound and the repeat doesn’t repeat unless I disengage then reengage it for each disk.

There are also the other issues with USB, cover art, etc. But as I seldom use these features so not such an issue for me. We will have to wait and see what the next release delivers… but, knowing our luck, it will probably be fraught with more hiccups ----- I hope not ----- but time will tell !

I did not know that but in the end it still is an intermediate step that brings the possibility of inaccuracies in the transfer process. Natural form is natural form. I have NEVER had any issues with updating my Directstream DAC as the process is very easy. I have never had any issues with switching between software loads on the DMP for that matter. I have seen others with the PCM vs DSD issue so it is not particular to my DMP.

Yes, it is possible for an error to creep in during unzipping although it is incredibly uncommon. Some have previously asked for a check sum value to verify the files are unzipped correctly, but there has been no evidence of any actual problem.

The repeat on he PWT would also have to be set for each disk and this seems like a logical normal way of operation. The Cover Art with 3.06 seems to be working VERY WELL for me. I have 41 pages in my PS Playlist and it seems to be finding them all ok. Once in a while the PS Audio Sine wave will show up after the DMP claims to have downloaded the Cover art. to resolve this I simply eject the disk and reinsert it it goes to the server and collects the picture on the second try. I have not seem a single read write red failure alert on my DMP since 3.06. I backed out 3.06 put in 2.10 just for shits and giggles. I immediately got the read write error on the first disk that I inserted. I did not leave it in long enough to test as I just cannot stand the 30 second load time. Put 3.06 back in and playing various disks to see if I get it to put out PCM on an SACD again. We have come a long way from the earlier operational issues. These last issues are going to get worked out at some point I do believe! As George Michael says, You gotta have Faith!
