You need the latest firmware and you should be able to find the Grimm with Qobuz connect. With that said I still prefer Roon on the Grimm.
Okay, latest firmware installed a while ago. Interface confirms no updates available.
Next, is Qobuz Connect different than running Qobuz-the-desktop-app? Perhaps that’s the issue.
[Edit]: Qobuz Connect seems to be a feature of Qobuz, and not a separate app. I was able to use Connect to switch between my MacBook and iPhone, and it was clearly marked that Connect was being used.
The problem I face is that the Grimm just never shows up on the list of available devices, and Qobuz does not list Grimm as a compatible device. So, if some here are getting Qobuz to play direct to the Grimm, I’m left wondering how?
I used the app on my phone and iPad. At the bottom left of the screen it list the device in use. If you press that it should bring up a list of available devices and the Grimm should show up. If it doesn’t I would power cycle the Grimm and see if it shows up after the power cycle.
I could be wrong, but for MU2 it does not support Qobuz Connect currently. Roon is the only way to operate it now.
However, Grimm is working with Qobuz on it, so it is on the list for a future FW update.
It works for the MU1. Not sure why it won’t work on MU2. I will verify in a couple weeks. I will also make sure it’s still working on MU1 later today.
While the last big update on the MU2 a couple of months ago enabled UPnP and Tidal Connect, it did not enable Qobuz Connect. My dealer told me that Grimm had told them that they were far down the line with their upgrade when Qobuz Connect came out and that they decided not to delay the update by trying to work in Qobuz Connect compatibility. Supposedly they are working on that now.
In all honesty I know nothing about the MU2.
But I was just visiting with a fellow audiophile here in Ft Worth. He was telling me that Kubala•Sosna has an upgraded internal short digital cable that is supposed to do wonders for the MU2. Anyone tried this internal cable swap??
Just a guess, but looks like the Black USB cable is easily upgradable and perhaps the one under it as well.
On my MU2 the ethernet cable is soldered wires on one end.
The cable is Kubala Sosna’s top of the line Ethernet cable inside the Grimm. About 15” and was $1900 from GTT Audio.
Well sir, my MU2 is offline. The Pink Faun lives. I was hoping to find a usable older version of Roon on it that I could experience. A wayback machine if you will. But no, Roon demanded to update. So I have the latest awful software. So I restored my latest backup and it’s singing.
I pulled the MUON Pro out of the MU2 and plugged it into the Pink Faun. That and a Gryphon Vanta power cable is all I have connected to the PF. It sounds nice and according to easily accessed data the processor is yawning mightily at the load. Right now it is streaming to my BACCH endpoint. We shall see. I’ll try it for a few days before I box up the MU2. Huge sigh. F’ing Roon. I used to love it.
Wow, Al, I’m sorry to hear that Roon is giving you so much trouble. Of course, Roon is the big reason for having the Grimm, so to have wonky software obviate expensive hardware is horrible.
I was out of the country for a month and a half, so I missed it when Roon started having major quirky issues. Since my return, I’ve been tracking what’s going on in the Roon forum. Sadly, the response from Roon support is not as snappy as everyone would like.
I’ve been having occasional issues with specific tracks refusing to play, even though they’ll play via Qobuz. It’s an annoying inconvenience, but not a show-stopper for me. And Date Added album sorting got borked, but that’s not how I usually navigate, so no biggie. Both of these issues are front and center on the Roon forum, with multiple new reports (complaints) every day.
Fortunately, I haven’t had much for performance issues. Album and track loading is still acceptable, with only occasional minor delays. I guess I’m lucky.
What I don’t have is a Plan B. I have no way to play Qobuz direct to my main system; no way to spin CDs; no vinyl. If either Roon or the Grimm failed hard, I’d be out shopping. At least with all those extra boxes and cable you have around, you can put together a solution that doesn’t frustrate you.
I have a friend who needs my MU2 more than I do. I’ll get an MU1 in return. I am mostly just curious about what the Pink Faun can do. So far so good. I might be imagining it, but it seems to sound wonderful. And the bigger processor is helpful. Snappier access to search and the current playlist loads really fast. That has not been the case for weeks. I could use it as the Roon server and the MU2 as an endpoint. Except I have only been using the MU2 as a Roon server for some time now. I prefer the DAC in my Bacch-Sp. It is very similar, but it doesn’t require any cables.
When the MU1 was designed, Roon was tiny code requiring almost nothing to run it. The MU1 giggled while running it. But now, as the Roon software gets bloated and cludgy, it seems to require more processor at my house. Hopefully at your house all is well.
Tonight, against my normal behavior, I clicked on a link on the Roon website where Roon people discuss the current Qobuz issue. I was hopeful after I read that message.
If your MU1 and MU2 are working just fine, I am very happy. Mine is a bit of a shock to me. But moving it on to a friend seems nice. Who knows what the future will bring?
My MU2 experienced the same issue of stop playing tracks in Qobuz, and it happens in Tidal too. The problem seems to get worse this week, more songs were in search mode but never played. There is no issue in playing files from internal SSD, Roon does it as fast as before.
The good news is I can use Qobuz Connect in PMG streamer to play all my lists and new albums without stopping issue.
I am keeping MU2 since I believe Roon will eventually solve the software issue.
This issue is too pervasive for them not to fix it.

I’m sorry to hear of your Roon woes. Mine was funky (slow) for a while a week or two ago, now it’s back up to speed generally, but I do have the occasional track that Roon won’t play, and I haven’t cared enough about it to try to figure out the source that fails to play.
I run Roon Core on a 1st gen Nucleus+ and use my BACCH-SP adio as an HQP Roon Endpoint.

Yes, it is the black internal ethernet cable that runs under the board on the left in your photo. The stock cable is actually good quality, but when switched out for KS Realization ethernet cable, the SQ improvement was noticeable. It was a very easy swap out. Just make sure that you keep track of which internal ethernet socket on the internal board receives the cable, as there are 2 side by side. I am fairly sure that I paid $1600 to GTT. Perhaps the price has increased? Someone else posted problems using a different brand of cable to attempt this upgrade, finding that the termination was too large to fit into the internal board.
Now I remember, that someone else would be me. When installing the 8TB internal SSD that Grimm forgot to instill, I attempted to replace the ethernet cable with a silver cable, but found the plugs were too big to fit. It also requires a very short length to fit properly.
So this ethernet cables needs to be a special order with phone jack size of termination and a short length. I decided just go with stock one because the SQ is quite excellent now.
Yup, I also plugged into the wrong socket, and was so worried that I damaged the socket because of the large termination was hard to insert and remove.
I do not want to touch it again.
