Various experience with various products

PS Audio relies on @jazznut to visit worlds largest High End Show in Munich. He provided feedback to this international forum that he does not Intend to visit it again.

I fully understand @Paul that PS Audio must make choices when it comes to exhibition. Every company has to deal with limits in resources.

I and @michael-denmark asked whether PS Audio plans to be represented at other EU shows in Denmark and The Netherlands we got no answer.

Not even showing a single piece at that largest High End Show in Munich not even by the rep in Germany, according to Paul’s own words a good friend, bothered to show PS Audio equipment?

Germans high end and equally family run T+A worked with their Texas based sales rep and went full blow on Expona. They even hauled the largest speakers and amps over to let the US Audience have a look, feel and listen.

I hope that PS Audio can work out a better sales and service plan for overseas customers that would come close to what they offer in the US. It would take away lots of the reported pain.

But also I’d like to provide positive feedback.

My dealer (new to PS Audio equipment) just let me know that the direct express shipped , straight from Boulder, Stellar Gain Cell DAC arrived without a scratch on the carton box, fully in tact, powered up for 20 h now and working flawless.

Based on the comments in this forum I asked them to do that for me as they are 2h drive from where I live, and I did not want to pick up a non working unit causing me to drive forth and back.

There seem to be no problems at all, the dealer is excited about the unit and so am I. The more dealers we get into the PS Audio camp the better the service will become, so hopefully the Benelux PS Audio rep can get the PS Audio equipment into their door.

And maybe even shown on XFi in Veldhoven in September. Perhaps I could get to meet @Phil there and others that I see commenting on this forum.

I will post my experience in the equipment section.

There is one big hifi show in the UK and it is very well attended.
PS Audio were not there. He’s a brochure with a list of who was, virtually all the main products in the UK, including power conditioning products from IsoTek and Audioquest.

PS Audio have not been for years. The fact is I heard about PS Audio at a show, where they were sharing a stand. I subsequently bought two products.
I live in London, one of the 2 or 3 leading European cities with plenty of audio dealers. There is no PS Audio dealer.
If it is not possible to experience a product, certainly if it costs ÂŁ5,000+, you are unlikely to buy it. I could not experience the P12, would have done even though a little over my budget. I bought another brand, after a home loan/demo.
Have the P12/P15/P20 or the Stellar range ever been exhibited at a major show in Europe?
When a product is not shown it is unlikely to get reviewed. There is a very active hifi press in the UK and almost no PS Audio reviews for years.
If you look on hifi shark there is a lot of PS Audio kit for sale in Europe, so it must be selling.
Will the AN speakers be shown in Europe?

Hopefully PSA shows a speaker next High End, then I’ll hopefully be there :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

And PSA doesn’t rely on my report…they had no choice with my posting :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: and possibly they’re not even interested…it was just a forum member service from my side.

Btw, Leebs and others at Copper also provided some info from the show!

But I agree, it’s a pity that PSA isn’t represented since years afaik.

It would certainly be a pleasure to meet you.
I am in Brussels and I usually go to the show organized here by New Music in December.
Is your dealer Guy at Aspera ?

Hi Phillippe that would be fun. I live in The Netherlands. My dealer is Echo Audio in Goes they also have shops in Middelburg and Terneuzen.

Our distributors (especially in Benelux) show our products at nearly every show. I think you’ll find them when you go.

We don’t participate in Munich, as I have said before, for a few reasons. First, there are no good rooms available. We have tried the main floor “cabins” for sound and find them unacceptable. So, if we did go it would not be to play music, only
to show our kit. Secondly, our German distributor shows at many of the smaller regional shows, just as our other distributors do.

Shows are expensive and have to be of value or they are not worth doing. Our distributors find much more value in the smaller regional shows than the big one in Munich.

Guy Chanet is the distributor in the Netherlands ad a wonderful person to know.

You provided great reports!

Yes, Guy is awesome.
I have bought 5 PS audio products from him because they sound great (and he let me try them in my system), but also because his customer service is among the best I have experienced in any industry or service, both before and after the sale.
It is completely in line with the great after sales support from PS audio headquarters, which is also among the best in any Industry.
Guy participates to the Brussels show and his PSA / YG room is always among the best.

Hi Steven, Thanks so much for your feedback on the UK market. We have spoken before on the phone and if you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to pick up the phone or email me (kevin@signaturesystems.co.uk).

If I may I’d like to update you on what we at Signature Audio Systems (UK Distributor for PS Audio) provide in the way of shows. Our view is that the largest and most appropriate UK HiFi Show is managed by HiFi News and up until last year was located at the Beaumont Hotel in Windsor (much closer to you than Bristol). PS Audio have had at least one room at that show for the past 5 years, with all the current products including the P20, P15 and P12. Last October we had the reference PS Audio system and the feedback was incredible. This coming October The HiFI Show will be held in the amazing main stand at Ascot Race Course. PS Audio will again have a dedicated room and will be located on the 6th Floor.

With regard to dealers in the UK and London in particular, we have one dealer in London in Ealing, Audio Venue. Sometimes dealers have a loaded portfolio and haven’t got room for yet another brand. We try to work with as many dealers as we can. It is important that dealers provide the correct support for the PS Audio brand by having a wide range or products available for demonstration. When this proves difficult we are happy to support and being based in north Kent we will step in with any PS Product you may wish to hear either at our unit or at your home. Naturally we would prefer a dealer provide the demonstration but where they can’t we will.

The Stellar range will be the focus demonstration this October at Ascot. That’s because there are two great new Stellar products arriving in the UK, 1. The Stellar P3 mains regenerator and; 2. The much awaited Stellar Phono.

If you read Hifi News you’ll see our PS Audio adverts in each issue, we hold the prestigious inside rear cover and dedicate this always to PS Audio. The current ad is for the P20. There is usually a double page spread, most recently featuring the DS DAC and Memory Player and next issue to feature the Stellar range.

The P20 was reviewed 2 issues back, a great review by Keith Howard - Many thanks to Keith! Further reviews are planned and yes once the AN3 speakers are available they will feature at The HiFI Show and will be available for demonstration at selected dealers and at our unit in Westerham (nearest stations Oxted/Sevenoaks only 25 mins by train from London).

As stated, if you have any questions it would be great to hear from you.
Best wishes
Kevin

Hi Kevin

My apologies, I was briefly aware of the Windsor show but I don’\t recall reading about it. The problem with Windsor is parking - it’s impossible - so good to see it’s moved to Ascot. I was aware that Bristol is the main UK showcase and the show I where we met was somewhere up the A1 and I think has ceased.

I had HiFINews for one year as they were giving away a Chord C usb that retailed at more than the subscription price. I still have the usb cable but did not renew the magazine. None of its reviews are online and I regret if it’s not online it doesn’t exist for me.

I know Ealing, only 15 minutes from home, but not heard of Audio Venue. Was in Ealing recently for the opening of the refurbished Pitzhanger Manor, the “country home” of Sir John Soane, who used to walk from there to his “London home” in Lincoln’s Inn Fields. Anyway, it seems to be more an AV place. Maybe I should go to Ealing again.

The dealers I was aware of were Analogue Seduction, Guildford Audio and MCRU. I think I bought through AS. I would have been interested in considering the P5, save for the price and lack of knowing a local dealer. I was also miffed that the sockets still point downwards.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I read an online review of a particular brand of cable working particularly well with my Devialet unit, spoke to my local dealer (KJ WestOne) and was promptly provided with a loan item. The overall package of three cables and the main filter/distribution block came in at less than the P5. So the hook was an online review. The only magazine I buy is Gramophone.

The new P3 would have been less and perhaps a sideways move. In any event, the problem I was having was noise, not voltage, and my system is different than the one for which the old P3 was purchased.

As I said, from HiFI Shark listings, PS Audio seems to be quite popular in Europe, even if USA customers bet a much better deal and better offers.

I may also be in the market for a Stellar GCD, but I would need a trial and a loan amp!

If the AN3 is at Ascot, I’ll come down and hear. May even buy you a lemonade! 2019 or 2020?

p.s. It was always my impression that PSA regenerators were mainly about level voltage, low THD and low impedance. I want low noise. The product I bought was based purely on listening. I’d not heard of them and never even looked at their website and what the theory was behind them. I don’t really care that much. I read a very specific recommendation, did a home trial and that was that. I read the website last night and didn’t understand a word of it.

Hi Steven, I am aware the parking can be a challenge. If you are prepared to park away from the site park and ride was laid on and when organised. Unfortunately we all want the most convenient parking for arrival and getaway. Yes the Whittlebury Hall Show is no more. You can see all Hifi News reviews on line, worth a subscription definitely.

The P5 is no longer available as you may be aware, although I have one last one available if you are interested? The sockets do point down but not an issue with PS Audio power cables that feed out horizontally. For UK cables that feed down you’ll need to raise the unit a couple of inches - but no issue.

I have over 16 dealers, some of whom you mention - all professional with kit to demo. KJ West one were offered PS Audio and turned it down. Please do contact one of the listed dealers you have stated and I’m sure they’ll loan you a GC dac. If not call me.

Based on my Conversation with Paul, I don’t think the UK will have an AN3 in time for this year’s show so I’ll look forward to the Lemonade! in 2020. PS regenerators are also about low noise, you’ll struggle to get a lower noise floor than with the new P series products.

All the best
Kevin

Our Danish PS audio importer exhibits PS audio every year. It seems that Paul always forgets little Denmark when he speaks. Next show of PS audio equipment is May 25/26. Mads also occasionally uses PS audio equipment for exhibitions. They forget the PS audio also obviously. But there are not many other companies that make use of that opportunity. Unfortunately.

The Danish importer and others incl. Little Michael do very much for our highly loved PS audio

I’d be interested Paul, what’s the value you or other manufacturers who do exhibit and play their stuff would expect or not.

I personally think doing a show for fanboys confirming their choice gives no reasonable value…as well as playing an average demo. I think the value is, demonstrating the taste and approach of the company by playing a sensational sound to those who make opinions.

As a company owner I’d have to travel to shows demo‘ing my stuff to make sure that’s how it should sound…or be very sure the guy there does it right.

To me it seems the main factor is the skill to make those rooms sound by choosing the right size of speakers and room acoustic tricks. There are always great and weak sounding demos in the same kind of rooms…

I’m dying of laughter. Germany a huge country. I have seen two products from PS audio once in Hamburg. I put photos of it lol a P20.

Thank you for the explanation.

It would be nice if you distributors would post on the PS Audio WEB site ate high shows they are. Like when you look for a dealer in your country. By the way, when I select on my country under find a dealer I get the address of the distributors, not the dealers. Maybe also something the distributors could provide information for to your WEB site. I trust it would give your overseas customer more of an idea of being attached rather then being on their own.

Apart from Guy Chanet being a nice guy, I am sorry to correct you on a little detail. Guy Chanet is the distributor FOR the Netherlands, his company is IN Belgium. I know, we’re all tiny countries (in Texas there are Ranches larger than our frog shaped country) and you can mix things up, but the politics and cultures and not to forget taxes and taxes on taxes. You’ve got to be careful about these details. In Belgium it’s even worse, if you would have said that he’s distributor in Wallonia, “Oh là là monsieur”.

Joke asside. I love going to Belgium culture, talking about cooking! Well now that @Phillippe mentioned it, I might go to that show in Brussels. Then I can enjoy the show and good food. Or maybe both Veldhoven and Brussels.

Picked up the Stellar Gain Cell DAC, connected it it sounds … I’ll post my full experience.

By the way, I have never experienced a forum that works as good as this one. It’s working really well, user interface, possibilities to connect or communicate, direct or to the group. Thank you for providing it.
Linn got rid of hosting their customers forum, I though and let them know that it was the most stupid idea. Yes you get negatives, but reading the posts I can not loose the impression that everybody seems to get a kick out of it. It does sell your products, I am convinced.

I’m dying of laughter also.
Germany land size = 357,386 sq km
Australia land size = 7,692,000 sq km.

We have cattle stations here bigger than the whole of Germany!

If Germany is huge, what name you give Australia?

Everything is relative.

E.g., Switzerland is 41,285 km².
Austria is 83,879 km².

Germany now looks pretty big.
