My brother and I each own half of my mom’s townhouse here in the west Chicago burbs. My dad passed a couple years ago now, she misses him, but still lives life big! I’ve been doing a bunch of work lately to keep it nice and kept for all of us. Anyway, the point, she picked this up for me as a present. My mom knows me! This is my absolute favorite “regularly available” whiskey. I never buy it for myself though. It’s too expensive to be an every weekend whiskey.

Just found today that Stranahan’s makes an Oloroso Andalusian sherried cask version of their whiskey. Jammy!

I need this.

Odd that I’m posting so much on here comparatively, as I don’t drink anywhere near as much these days, but every time I do, I get “inspired”.:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

This caught my eye today as being Seasonal, as it were. Unfortunately it is Nowhere near as good as it sounds🤷🏻‍♂️ So - not really my DOC.

And Dear. $15 clams for (4)16’s. Odd flavor. Their Chocolate Shake is better and cheaper.:man_shrugging:t2:

EDIT: I have to do a follow up on this, as it turns out this is quite good. When I first got it, I’d had a red ale before it, and I can only assume that it caused it to taste odd and boozy.

I mean - it is:

But when imbibed without precedent bev, it is perfectly lovely - assuming you like this sort of thing in the first place. And are OK with $15 for four American pints. (cheaper than at the bar I suppose):man_shrugging:t2:

And - now downing some of the aforementioned Chocolate Shake - which I realize some may find an abomination on the face of it - but in this area of sweet stouts/porters…good stuff. And indeed very good and a lot cheaper, and still 5.9 - assuming that matters in your value equation.

My only criticism as one of failing eyesight is the freakishly tiny typefaces on the can. Aesthetically nice, I’ll admit, but requires the assistance of a magnifier of some sort to decipher.

I suddenly became Irish last week (this great Whiskey was on sale 3/17).

I walked into my local wine store/wine bar last Thursday and said to my friend, Sara, who owns the place, “It’s good thing all of your wines are Irish today, 'coz that what’s I’m drinking”.

AKA Vodka pre distilling? :joy:

And for the record, spuds are a south Idaho commodity! Up north we are about trees, fish, wheat, barley and lentils.

Slumming it tonight, my birthday in less than two weeks will fix that. Still, a very serviceable rye, especially for the price. I buy the big bottle.

Or keep it refrigerated. Carpano Antica is too good (and too pricey) to let go bad. Looks like these don’t sequence well, I’m referring to the post about using fresh vermouth.

I expected a haul of great bourbon/rye for my birthday. Didn’t really materialize, but my mom did buy me this…nice all the way around.

Dump your Blue Label! For less than 1/4 of the price, you got to try this:

Aberfeldy Single Malt 12 years.

Single malt scotch rules. If you haven’t also tried the following (still much less than JW Blue Label):

  • Ardbeg 10-Year (~$50)
  • Lagavulin 16-Year ($100); one of my all time favorites

And then there’s the world of great bourbon. More than barley but oh so fantastic too.

  • Bakers 7-Year
  • Bookers
  • Peerless (anything from these guys)
  • Reservoir (made in my home state of VA)
