If the ideal setup is to have a pair of the same power cords in line with each SDFB, I could not justify it. Doubling up on Dragons would put me in the poor house.
Well Iâm already enough in the poor house that I canât own a Dragon. Iâ'm so poor I probably shouldnât be on this forum. I just think in terms of symmetryâbut havenât tried differing cables before and after.
I say that every day.
If you donât have a good spared AC cord then youâre stuck with the standard pigtail for SDFB. Itâs not a terrible sounding one if you donât care about deep bass and clean detailđ
I gave some good spared cords to my daughter and regretted (she has not use them as far as I know). I was able to save the day with a Purist Audio cord, but I had to replace the plugs with Furutech I50 NCF ones. The plugs alone costed over $700!
If you donât have a extra Dragon or other nice cord, stay with fuses!
Iâm so poor because of this forum. Lol
But very rich in audio friends and audio knowledge because of this forum.
Well said. Truth be told, you can have as much fun when the gear is put aside and only the music matters. And it certainly costs less.
and⌠youâre typing on this Forum!
Sure, I tried to convince myself in believing that too.
The first time I told myself that was 30 years ago.
I was on the road to audio ruin since the late 60âs. I guess I should have put my comment in context. My point was that music enjoyment is not dependent on a resolving system, but it can be enhanced by it, and therefore the quest for the likes of us.
I distinctly remember the rush listening to 8 track tapes in my car, barreling down rural roads, singing tracks with a close friend. Low Fi, but it was the Hi Life.
well said.
There was a good 10 year+ gap between my last audio-upgrading craziness and the current one, and with no end in sight. The trouble is now I have more funds, more time, and deep into this forum.
I am looking forward to my next period back to simply enjoying music; after my next 5 upgrades and tweaks I should be done (block any posts from Al and Luca may be the only cure)!
To clarify my comparison between the Synergistic and Audio Magic fuses, with my old preamplifier (MBL) the Synergistic Purple worked very well in the amps.
When I changed the preamplifier (Mark Levinson), the sound had become a little too âstressedâ, hence my test to change the Synergistic with Audio Magic. And for now this choice suits me better.
So if I had kept my old preamplifier I would have taken the new Synergistic but with my new preamplifier the Audio Magic suit me better.
I could not have said it better. With streaming my benchmark is dated, but I look for a balance of owned recordings to gear on the rack in oneâs approach to this hobby. While there is no right approach, music moves me the gear is the vehicle.
I was listening to some Live Fink last night.
The concert Hall ceiling rose a hundred plus feet above me. The crowd added electricity to my front, sides, and behind me. The performers and instruments were clear and lucid and I felt bass through my body.
The magic of cables, fuses, 160 lb amps, 350 lb speakers and digital magic from bacch-dSP not only connected me to the music but the space and that moment in time.
Would I trade that to be 17 again with my teenage girlfriend in that 76 oldsmobile cutlass with 8 track and landau roof, rally wheels and huge backseat. And Eagles Long Run or Breakfast in America looping. Damn straight. If only there were time machines for our bodies and not just our old ears.
I started with Audio in 1973. I bought and bought and bought gear. Lots of used gear. When I had to buy new I would go to a store every day and beg for a discount. Usually on something that was never discounted. I would walk up to the same salesman, put my best sad puppy face on and say âPlease! I wonât tell anyoneâ. It usually only took three weeks or so.
Then one day I realized I was more interested in sound than the actual music. I decided to focus on the music and take a break from buying new gear. This lasted maybe 15 years.
Five or six years ago that passed and I went on another streak of buying, buying, buying. I am pretty sure that is done now. Funny, when you buy the very best available it has a calming effect. Except frequently now the sound I hear is sometimes frightening with intensity in a very musical way.
I hope this wonderful satisfaction lasts a long time. I believe buying all of Stealths very fine cables is a huge factor in my happiness with my system. Glad I got there sooner rather than later.
To how much the producers have sold thanks to your purchases, also add the sales generated by your suggestions! Truth be told!
I canât take credit for the discovery of these items. My Audio Guru, George Vatchnadze pointed me in a fine direction, multiple times! He introduced me to Gryphon and Stealth and TechDAS. I learned about Grimm gear on my own and informed George about it. Bacch I learned of from @paul172.
You are our Audio Guru, so.
Just passing on what I have learned.
What I loved about Axpona was the ability to discover things that amazed and delighted me. (In the Gryphon room) And Paul and I fled some rooms as fast as we could. Those rooms hurt.
The amusing thing is, this time RonP and I agreed on what was good or bad. Last year we were at odds. Weedee is useless, he likes everything.
The point is, whatever taste Iâve developed is provable. Except to that one guy.
How I wish to attend Axpona or Munich with all of you one day!
