I may have forgotten something that is actually important to me. By using the duelund capacitor for the tweeter, the sound of my system is almost like a good full-range speaker. Everything sounds together without perceiving individual drivers. Voices are lifelike with warmth. The sound is very tangible. What I’m missing is some resolution in the treble range, for example with cymbal hits. I could perhaps play with a small capacitor as a bypass, but perhaps then the closed sound would fall apart and the highs would seem artificial.
I thought maybe other fuses would help.
In short, the low frequency range is ample enough, a little less wouldn’t be a problem. I’m more interested in a touch more resolution in the high frequency range.
From what I’ve read here, M2 is supposed to sound more holographic.
Maybe not a bad thing SR Pink in the power amplifiers and an M2 in the power plant. Purple vs Hifituning supreme Silver/Gold had a little more dynamics and a touch more resolution in the upper range. Tonally they played very similar. Pink should offer a little more resolution and dynamics. Use 3/2 for amplifiers. M2 power plant versus Pink? More depth than pink which isn’t a bad thing?
I’m also looking to take advantage of the Synergistic Research Pink 3 for 2 and the Master buy one get one 50% off. I’m looking to replace the orange fuse in my P15 and the purple in my BHK preamp and Holo Audio Spring 3 DAC. What would be the best option to take?
Have not heard from you for a while, welcome back!
I am moving away from SR fuses now. I sold all my Masters and Purples this year. My system has four M-2 fuses plus one M-1. I also have a FB for P15. P15 has only M1200 connecting to it now. So I cannot advice on any SR fuses since I have a new streamer too. But I like AM fuses better in general. Especially the M-2.
Hello Donald, I’ve been reading along from time to time. I thought I had finished the optimizations. Somehow something new always comes to mind. An MU2 instead of my Cambridge edge nq would also be an option. The price puts me off, maybe I’ll find a great deal in the future.
Hello Luca, thank you for your comparison of pink vs purple. I still have a question: the treble is extended on the pink and, for example, cymbals sound less rounded than on the purple? You rate the low frequency with the pink fuse as +++ compared to purple. What are the differences? Is the bass more pronounced or is it cleaner? My low frequency range in my room is already more than sufficient; more could be too much. Greetings Andreas
Hi Andreas,
I have to admit that Pink is more ‘controlled’ so the extremes (high and low frequencies) are more extended and balanced compared to Purple that was more focused on high freq and sometimes a little bright.
Dynamics with Pink sound “better” in their presentation. Bass are rounded, tighter and more pleasant - don’t worry they are not “too much” present, just better present.
My “+++” symbols stand for better in terms of sound quality, not quantity.
Hope this helps.
Thanks Luca. The SR pink instead of the Hifituning Supreme silver/gold fuses in the mono amplifiers could then work well. I need 4 pieces for this. The question now is whether I take advantage of the discount and pay for 4 and order 6 pink fuses. One then for the power plant. Or 4 SR Pink for the mono amplifiers and an AM M2 instead of the purple in the power plant. According to some members, the M2 should work well in the power plant. I can buy the SR in the Netherlands and the exchange would be easier if I don’t like it. I would have to order the AM M2 in the USA. Which dealer do you recommend?
I ordered my M2 from the The Cable Company I believe it was $265 after the discount.
I’m no more interested in fuses, all my MSB stuff sports the stock ones. Only server/streamer and LPS sport the Pink, replacing the Purple.
And I’m using Puritan PSM-156 with no fuses.
It could matter.
I’m no longer interested in fuses as well. . ,. Swiss Digital Fuse Boxes have proven to yield better results in my system.
did you try SR fuses in MSB Dac? what was the result?
Nope! I had a Master that fitted the Premier DAC but never tried and when I bought the Reference the A rate needed was different, so I abandoned the idea.
If anyone interested I should have 5A Master and M-1 in a drawer collecting dust.
I already pulled the trigger today. Due to Synergistic Research’s promotion, I ordered 4 SR Pink and a Master. Since I live in Germany, ordering Synergistic research material in the Netherlands is less complicated. Greetings Andreas
You were too fast; I was going to suggest trying an AM M2 fuse. You may be pleasantly surprised.
My fuses were delivered today. After the postman arrived, I installed them immediately. 2 SR Pink each in the mono amplifiers. There these replace the Hifituning supreme silver/gold fuses in the driver stage. The performance levels are secured with Hifituning supreme silver/gold. The regenerator now also has an SR Master instead of an SR Purpel. The sound should all settle in first. Tonally it sounds a little smoother. The mids are now a little less emphasized. I think the Purple previously displayed these a little too richly in my system. I’m curious to see how the sound changes. They are not worlds. The bass seems a little more controlled and the highs have a little more energy. The sound stage is slightly larger and the separation of the individuals. Greetings Andreas
Hi Andreas … just to let you know SR don’t recommend Master fuses in regenerators.
I had one in my P20 and changed it out to the Pink, which gave a more rounded sound.
Some of your brightness may be coming from the Master in your regenator?
Master fuses are recommended for DACs and source equipment.
After about 6 hours you notice that the separation and tonality have improved and everything is very clearly defined.
For example, with Laura, at the very beginning you can hear more clearly than before that there are no drums but swinging bass sides. Details such as blowing noises, handles and keys of the instrument can be heard clearly.
I think that with a suitable optimization in the system like in cooking it is a pinch of salt here, a pinch of pepper. Not too much and you have to like it in the end. It doesn’t sound too bright. It sounds clear, distinct and a little more open. Voices and trebles don’t scream either and don’t come too far forward on my system. Who says the Master shouldn’t be used in regenerators? It is certainly recommended to give the source devices more resolution. However, the regenerator is the first source of electricity for every other component. I’ve had a master for a long time that I swapped between Dac, streamer and regenerator. I liked him in every position. Only then did I swap the purple one too. The Purple has a narrower presentation but has a base stage further back. The highs are rounded and the mids are more emphasized on the Purple. A solution to highlight the midrange in a system. Since my speakers have duelund capacitor, I have enough sound density and rich organic tones. The Purple sounded very pleasant, like a full-range speaker with its pronounced midrange, but there was a slight lack of resolution at the top. The Master sounds tonally quite even, like a standard ceramic fuse. The master offers a broad, clearly defined presentation. The treble range is clear but smoother without the glassy harshness of a standard fuse. Tonally balanced with better separation. Perhaps one reason why a master backup fits well into a device that has a standard backup and therefore sounds tonally balanced. The only drawback with the master is that it relies more on a broad presentation and lacks a bit of depth. In terms of sound, I find that the SR master fuse has a similar effect to an Audioquest Dragon power cable. The pink fuses seem to play fresher in the treble range than a purple and therefore a little more neutral than the mid-range purple. Maybe I’ll order another AM M2 to see how it performs. Direct comparisons here were M2 vs Pink and not with Master. The only thing that bothers me about the AM fuses is that the caps don’t necessarily sit straight on the body and are reattached with solder. It has a bit of a home-made feel to it and seems less industrial. The fuses, connection cables, etc. should harmonize with the component. The result I hear may differ from your own system.
It’s like any hoped-for optimization. What is supposedly better does not necessarily mean better performance. If something has been perfectly coordinated with a compromise, a further assumed better optimization often fails to achieve its advantages. Perhaps a reason to stay away from components that are really optimally coordinated in order to avoid making things worse. Al and now Luca, for example, refrain from making such interventions with their carefully coordinated and expensive components. Some people really want to tune their car individually, others choose standard because they are happy with it. And some buy a luxury vehicle from the outset. Others also tune vehicles that are actually perfect like these.
Greetings Andrew
good review
The Master fuse in P15 had a positive effect for sure. I was going to try a AM M-2 fuse (still hope you will try one). However, SDFB has exceeded any fuse in my system, and it’s cheaper too (unless you do the dumb Furutech plug upgrade like I did😆).
The P15 only serves M1200 amps now, and the difference it made is quite small. I may sell my P15 soon (a more desirable silver color), along with the FB.
Donald, maybe I was too quick with the fuses and should have bought a Puritan for it. First Luca, Al and now you… I should see if I can get a Puritan somewhere. I think having just thrown the AM Premier Ultimate out of the Sbooster power supply for my Melco switch I’m moving further away from integrating an AM fuse. Maybe it’s better to stick with one provider. I can now better understand why V-max’s SR master didn’t work well with all the AM fuses. With the master in the power plant and preamp/streamer, power amplifier, a combination of SR Pink and Hifituning supreme silver/gold, it sounded very resolving. But more emotionless and technical. After I plugged the SR Purple into the power supply for the switch instead of the AM Premier Ultimate, the magic of music came back. The timbre fits, more emotionally holographic, the flat sound image disappeared. The stage presentation is better than before. The tone is balanced. Voices sound more appealing. SR fuses probably work better together than with magic fuses. I had good experiences with matching the Hifituning and SR fuses.
