You brought up a good point that SR fuses may not mix with AM fuses well. The more AM fuses I got into my system, the more I dislike SR fuses in mine. If I went the other way I may end up with all SR fuses too.
Maybe SR Master doesnāt work with magical fuses. Without the second master in the system, the audio magic fuse was superior in sound to the SR Purple in the switch. But in combination with the second SR Master, the Purple is much more suitable for the switch. Itās hard to believe what a difference such a small fuse can make. She decides whether it sounds fascinating or terrible.
Donald, you mentioned that the AM M2 is easier to integrate into a system than the SR Master. Maybe itās due to SRās product philosophy and the interlocking modular system of various fuses.
It could be.
In my system, SR Master is more difficult particularly fitting in. The first Master took a couple weeks in P15 to settle; the 2nd Master didnāt like any of my gears until it settled in Lumin U2 streamer (quite a bit improvement here).
M-2 fuse sounded good right after installation, but the 2nd day was a bit of struggle. However, in general it does improve day-by-day. It is also fitting well in any gear in my system.

The Master fuse in P15 had a positive effect for sure. I was going to try a AM M-2 fuse (still hope you will try one). However, SDFB has exceeded any fuse in my system, and itās cheaper too (unless you do the dumb Furutech plug upgrade like I didš).
What was wrong with the Furutech plug??
Nothing wrong with them at all, and in fact Furutech 50 NCF made so much improvement over the pigtail. But some do not believe spending more than double for a set of connectors over the device itself is prudent.
Thanks! Thatās why I asked! I have several Furutech 50 NCFās and each one made an improvement.
I really agree with that! I upgraded from a SR Purple to a SR Master on the Holo Audio Red and the improvements were outstanding. I never ever imagined to gain so much more in sound quality.
Btw: I am also using an Audioquest Dragon SR power cable for the Holo Red on a Niagara 5000
Iām new to the forum but Iām looking for this groupās guidance on fuse replacement for a Lumin U2. Unfortunately, I need to place my order today to take advantage of SRs August sale. Donald indicated that the Master fuse was preferred in the Lumin U2 but then in other threads there was some waffling on fuse approaches.
I have the following equipment which is plugged into Puritan PSM 156 w ground Master (Audio Envy Mega X PC):
Orbi 7800 router (IFI Elite PS) > LINKUP DSX8000 Cat8 Ethernet > TRENDnet 4-Port Gigabit Switch with SFP Slot (IFI Elite PS) > Muon ethernet cable > Muon Pro ethernet filter > Lumin U2 (Audio Envy Expanded Ocean w/ upgraded ground) > Anthem AVM 90 via (Audio Envy Coax BNC w Audio Envy Ocean expanded PC) > Parasound A31 Amp w SR Pink fuse (via Audio OāNestian balanced cables to AVM90) > Amp plugged into PSM 156 (Audio Envy Ocean expanded w upgraded ground) > Arendal 1723 Towers (Audio Envy 34 speaker cables).
I also have a new AE Okta w Mega X PC but everything just sound better when plugged into the PSM156. I had 1 Puritan Ultimate cord but made a grave error in selling the PC to upgrade to the AVM 90.
Everything just sounds right when better plugged into the PSM 156.
Does it make sense to spend $600 on Master fuze (+ free Pink fuze) for the Lumin U2? BTW the fuzes are not returnable. Or is money spent better spent elsewhere in the system ie Ultimate Power cords, amp, switch, etc?
I really dont have a use for the free 2nd pink fuze that comes with the sale other than sticking it into one of the rails of the Parasound A31 but the SR dealer indicated that may not be the best use of funds. I also thought about getting the pink fuse and placing it into an LHY LPS25VA that I have lying around to see if using the LHY LPS to power the Trendnet switch would provide any SQ benefit over the IFI Elite PS.
I also tried an LHY Audio SW10 earlier this year but unfortunately ran into to the same issue as Donald, it worked for 2 days but then stopped working altogether so I just continued using the trusted and inexpensive trendnet switch.
Any support today (9/1) would be greatly appreciated.
When I first acquired LHY SW-10 I had to return it because it could not connect to Lumin U2, they sent a replacement that finally worked. However, it is fussy in making connection because after turning on, it usually took around 5 minutes to find the streamer. With my other switch SW-6 it connected right the way. But now both of them work fine.
Are you using fiber optic link between Lumin U2 and SW-10? I found single-mode cable works better, and the quality of transceivers and cable matters in SQ.
I have tried both AM M-1 and Master fuses in Lumin U2, and Master fuse sounded better, but only by a slight margin. I am currently using M-2 fuses in all gears to replace M-1 and Purple fuses, but I never tried M-2 fuse in Lumin because I do not have it anymore. I like AM fuses better than SR fuses; however I have no experience with SR Pink fuse.
Welcome!
Does the LHY switches improve SQ? The reason I did not order a second switch was Beatecnik was going thru some turmoil and leadership transition at the time and they were not responsive when troubleshooting the SW10. I did make a subtle change/improvement over the 2 days it worked but I was not convinced that it justied the $1400 price tag nor did I have adequate time with the unit to adequately evaluate the impact. I since upgraded to the Lumin U2 and AVM 90 which was a larger sonic improvement over the LHY SW10. Interested to know whether a switch can provide SQ improvements.
I have tried the connecting all fiber from the router to the Lumin U2 streamer using SM Corning Fiber with Finasar 1318 SM modules. I thought it sounded good until I ran all cat 8 from the router to the switch and then the Muon Pro filter from the switch to the Lumin U2. All ethernet coonection seemed to have more body and not as sterile or harsh spunding. Now that the Lumin is completely broken in, I may try running fiber from the switch to the Lumin again with the Muon Filter in front of the switch.
Back to the SR Master fuse, sounds like the AM M2 fuse may be worth trying before spending $600 on a none refundable fuse or find another SR dealer that offers 30 day trial. In doing some more research in this forum, some are suggesting the Cable co. offers 30 day trial.
Does an audiophile fuse in the streamer offer significant SQ upgrade? Sounds like it may based on some of the comments from ithers in this thread.
LHY SW-10 switch needs at least 100 hours of break in (maybe more but I had added other tweaks/cables that require break-in at the same time). It has made a noticeable improvement in my system when using FO link. I started with Finisar but later changed to Optospan FO setup that sounded better. I have since acquired a LHY SW6 switch, so I moved the FO link between the two switches (plus a clock link). This has proved to be the best setup in my system. They made more improvement than any fuse for sure.
The Master fuse alters the sound more than any other fuse, so one needs to be careful using it since many said it actually made the SQ worse! No one says M-2 fuse does that. M-2 fuse has no issue fitted in most systems as far as I know.
Most helpful comments!
Thank you Donald! In light of your comments, i will take the time necessary to properly review Fiber connections to the Lumin in lieu of rushing to purchase an expensive fusebthat may or may not have apositive improvement on sound. I can always revisit fuses down the road.
Thank you BTW for your timely feedback. Very much appreciated! I may revisit the SW10 or the Network Acoustics Tempus switch options over the next couple of months if fiber connection to the Lumin provides improvement over standard ethernet.
Donald can you provide more information regarding the Optospan FO setup (model numbers)? I would like to look into Optospan a bit further.
I just connected the Muon Pro filter system from the Orbi Router to the Trendnet switch and running Fiber to the Lumin U2 and it brought the sound stage forward and enhanced the mid range and transparency. The sound is fuller, smoother, less harsh but more detailed. It may be due to the previous Cat 8 ethernet cable ($40) running from the router to the switch being replaced by a Muon Pro ethernet cable. Itās as though a veil was lifted from the music. The music also fills in better between the speakers. It would be interesting to see if adding another quality ethernet cable between the modem and router would lead to further SQ improvements.
Thank you for prompting me to give Fiber another shot, I really like the improvement in SQ.
M2 in the DS Sr DAC is a solid improvement over the M1. Burn in is similar to what has been previously stated. Dark sounding at first and opens up 2-3 days later. There is less noise, providing a smoother sound - but is just as lively as before. Soundstage has better width and depth. Largest difference is there is a more complete picture of the stage as instruments sound more complete. Everything sounds just right.
The upgrade from the SR Purple to the SR Master in the Holo Audio Red was really an unexpected revelation - amazing to see what the SR Master can do in a streamer.
Also the SR Pink provided another improvement to the already outstanding Network Acoustics Tempus switch. So highly pleased about these two.
I just did an interesting comparison; I replaced the M-2 fuse with a HP copper sluggo in Grimm MU2 to hear how much improvement a FB could potentially make.
I do not get a SQ jump in MU2 as much as with P15. In fact, I am not sure there is a clear winner between the two. MU2 uses a 1A, fast, small fuse. Does the low current flow reduce the benefit of FB? Or is the M-2 fuse better than other fuses in my system so it could match a sluggo? I do not have an answer. But I do not plan to get another FB at this point.
