It’s hard to say you are wrong Ron. Records before, in any case. If tweaks and records are both of them in a list of purchased things, it’s even better!
Certainly no one has to take the fuse journey or decide it is the better path to enjoyment.
I resisted for a while and for about three years or more was happy with Furutech and Audio Magic fuses that only cost a few fingers and toes compared to the arm and leg ones. . . that I eventually found myself using and unfortunately deciding they were better to have in the system than not. I now have an M-1 in my P15 and Purples elsewhere. I like the balance.
On a Power Regenerator?
Kind of a reach my friend.
Using the M1 now in my P20. I may switch back to the purple to compare again. I could live happy with either!
That’s why I called “it” a thing. Could be any thing in one’s hifi.
I had that feeling at first but the comparison was too purple. When I added the third to the M-1 to HDPLEX300. Some Marcus miller and Keb Moe tracks had changed less pronounced bass plucks. . So I started looking elsewhere and the tuning ring on P-20 Dragon Power Cord had moved towards the P-20 because the cable lifter adhesive under it had dried holding the sorbothane under a tuning ring had slid with the ring too close to the IEC A move back to its position and my magic had returned every bass pluck and bend distinct and with authority.
There is no mistake confusing the two fuses though. I tried going back to a stock PSA fuse after the purple. It was not a good swap back lost all details . Not sure if sliding the stock fuse in now if I ‘d like it at all compared to Am-1 though I did find it in a purple Fuse box I shipped an extra Purple to robwilgus this morning.
The other night i was listening and fell asleep and Roon Radio had taken over i awoke at 3AM. To some live Jimi Hendrix playing the experience was surreal more details and locked floating center image, then some old Stones off Beggar’s BanquetI had not heard in years same amazement Followed by the Who The Real Me off Quadraphenia. I was now locked entranced in such a massive soundstage and details locked in these three songs coming out from everywhere along with the sound engineers micing tricks.
I know, I got lots of tweaks, but with them, I still love my system more than ever and just by playing with cables fuses, RF and EMI absorber and power cords has unleashed such performance. Sometimes I think there must be a system that does all this with a basic simple recipe. Plug and play. What that would cost and where does one find it? Not at most Audio Dealers.
Then it occurs to me you have to search it out. It doesn’t just find us. But sitting through three classic rock tracks and everyone being a new discovery it is even clearer, nobody can hand you a template we must search it out for ourselves and our rooms. Then after years we can still make it different for better or worse with annoyingly simple changes.
I bought the M1 and thought it was a good investment for the money spent. Would I buy others for my system? No! I could take the M1 out of my pre and be perfectly happy with the stock fuse too. If a boutique fuse is making or breaking ones system then my guess would be there are far more reaching issues with the synergy of the equipment at hand…
Yeah, I’m kind of with Mark in this one. The M-1 is quite good, better (as I said earlier, in many ways for me) than stock. But it’s not going to make or break my already excellent sounding system.
It kind of blows my mind that anyone would make a fuse that sounds “fuller” or “warmer” than SR Purple. In the amps I have used it I find it ridiculously, even oppressively, weighty in the lower midrange and bass to the point that it overburdens the music and I just want to scoop out all that goo with an EQ. It is a wildly colored and bass/mid heavy fuse. The Orange was much better balanced and nimble, if lacking in ultimate sound quality.
Reading this thread I’m feeling a bit bummed as I was hoping to find something more tonally neutral. QSA, on the other hand are tilted towards bright and thin.
There is a run in period of several days. The purple is 200 plus hours. The beedswax ultimate premier is more as you described.
Also try reversing its direction. They really are directional but manufacturer doesn’t always keep it consistent or say they are.
I’ve had these for 9 months or so, tried both ways. They are just extremely thick and weighty in an amp. I was tempted to go back to Orange a number of times, but the sound quality is better with Purple. It just means some of my music can’t move that much, being effectively pinned to the ground with so much midrange heaviness.
I am surprised that more people don’t have issues with fuses that exaggerate the frequency response so much (same with QSA which are tilted in the opposite direction).
The M-1 fuse in the generator works very well for many here. I like it in PST as well, and I like Purple better in BHK pre that has tube inputs. When I added a third M-1 in DS, I was not sure the SQ was an improvement over Purple. But I did not have another Purple to try. I always thought a combination of two M-1 and two Purple may sound better than three M-1 plus a Purple in my system. My amps have no fuses, and I am not too sure if M-1 would work in a tube amp (or SS amp) since I have never tried.
Recently I removed the M-1 in DS (ready for trade in) and reinstalled a stocked fuse. Interestingly the system gives a better balance in sound but loses a bit of soundstage. So, I can understand some systems may not benefit from M-1 fuse(s) as others.
It’s always system synergy that comes into play. What’s the rest of your system like?
Perhaps bringing speakers further apart would reduce the midrange coupling or heaviness you dislike. But that might not be possible. I found I had to do some power cord 3M AB7050HF tuning ring changes to get the proper balance after adding more of M-1 fuses. Further away from male plug lightens up the mids too. Like moving speakers apart more. . If going back to purple is easiest solution for you it is your choice. I was just suggesting other options. My amps have circuit breakers versus fuse so the regenerator and my LPS DC supplies got the M-1.
The tuning rings helped my system achieve a better balance too.
Yep, I reckon you’re on the ball here. I’ve got SR Orange and Purple, QSA Light Blue, Yellow and Violet to compare and I’ve arrived here:
Orange - sublime midband but not a great deal of extension at either extreme. But, that makes for a wonderful experience with voices and solo winds/brass
Purple - takes the sublime midrange and extends it out, but more in the bass than the treble. Deeper soundstage
QSA Light Blue - lightened up the presentation and made it a bit more fleet of foot. More treble sparkle than the SR fuses, but without the midband warmth.
QSA Yellow - added solidity and presence over the Light Blue and Orange. Treble opened up a lot and more detail was present.
QSA Violet - better low end texture and extension than the SR Purple, more treble extension than the Yellow, a crystal clear and transparent midrange. Easily the most neutral fuse of the group.
All of them sound calmer and cleaner than the stock fuse. The QSA Violet does what an excellent power cable does for detail, transparency and silence. Yellow and Purple I’d say are of the same level of i fluency, but in different directions. The Yellow tightens up your suspension and gives you a direct connected throttle, while the Purple is a nice soft Cadillac. The Violet handles brilliantly while giving you a comfy heated seat to drive from.
Personally, I think these same descriptions can be directed at a collection of DACs, or loudspeakers, or amps…so it’s down to what you want to hear in your system. They’re “only tweaks” but all tweaks influence performance like components do, so you have to try them and see. In terms of value, I think they’re brilliant. Where else are you going to get this kind of performance enhancement for such a small outlay. I don’t think of them as expensive compared to a stick fuse, but rather as inexpensive compared to the upgrade they bring to components that are vastly more expensive.
Could someone point me to where the discussion and build instructions are for the rings? I don’t remember where I read them and don’t seem to be able to find them.
Thanks,

They are discussed extensively and recently in the Cable Sutra Common Ground Cable Whisper Power Cable Thread in cable Section.
Thanks. I was looking in tweets.
