Go to Resources, Downloads, Product update Archives you can still download 2.06 there
Your emphatic BOLDING is not lost on me. This is part of the point Iâm trying to make.
As finicky/non-user friendly as it can seem at times, there is a reason folks say stuff like, âinstall and THEN rebootâ, and, âif you have issues, make sure you wiped the SD card, and properly ejected it from the computerâ, etc., etc.
Yes - it would be awesome if it were online-upgraded and Totally User FriendlyâŚbut I wonder how many of the issues might be cured by one of these things or the other.
Whether it be the DS SR., or my Lumin or Aries I always shut them down and re-boot after any update and have never had a problem with any of them. Lumin has always recommended that.
Mr Beef
I need to get into the swing of things, so hereâs my Global Answer for everything hereon: Iâm pissed.

Thanks for replying. Thanks to Elk as well.
I think I like 2.06 better than 2.08, at least it sounds better in my setup.
Just curious, how would you describe the difference between the two firmwares?
Iâm terrible to ask because I always have a hard time describing it yet I can tell almost instantly in my system whether I like something or not.
Seems more holographic to me, more see through. If youâre in the next room and hear the stereo playing, 2.06 sounded more like live music to me.
BTW, Iâm told thatâs how a lot of Japanese audiophiles judge equipment, what does it sound like if youâre in the next room and not in the sweet spot. Maybe many on the board knew that. I was just recently made aware of it. Very good systems will sound like musicians are playing in the next room.
Feel you, bruh ; )
2.06 works better than 2.08
There is a very real danger to updating directly from a distant server. Should the power be interrupted mid process you could end up with a device that you can no longer communicate with. It is safer to update from an SD or USB jump drive.
Back in the 'nineties when I read Stereophile one of the youngest reviewers in the stable called that the âL.I.A.R.S.â test: âListening In Another Roomâ . . . .
Well, yeah - that would be my two cents as well, but hang around here long enough, and you will get smacked down by those who feel that all updates should be both internet-based and automatic : )
I originally got this from Elliot Scheiner, who has mixed a boatload of famous stuff. I asked him at a seminar, at the time of these records (and these are both Surround albums - Eagles being one of the earliest) :
âWhat happened between Eagles, âHell Freezes Overâ, (where he mixed each band member into their own speaker - sort of a fail), and Beckâs âSea Changeâ? - which was the first coherent 5.1 pop mix I had heard - yet by the same guy.
He mentioned going into the next room - and if the mix held up/sounded coherent, he knew he was on the right track.
My recollection is you are correct. I recall Paul saying prior to release that DMP would play all discs and the marketing material on the website did say as such. When the first units got into the hands of users it was discovered pretty quick that DVD-A and BluRay discs were a problem. Some will play if they default to the audio only tracks, but Paul then stated that, in fact, DVD-A and BluRay discs will not play. The reason being you need a video out for most of these discs and he intentionally left that out of the DMP for best sound. At what point Paul came to the realization it wasnât a universal player is unknown to us, but that fact is it has been known since shortly after release (it did take a while for the marketing materials to be corrected).
My issue with 3.06 is that it worked for the most part when I initially installed same but then over a couple of days the DMP wouldnât respond to many commands. I rebooted 3.06 a few times eventually rolling back to 2.08 and also rebooting, then back to 3.06 - plus two reboots. Further to that I downloaded another two loads of 3.06 files, onto two brand-new cards, plus reboots and, my DMP still has issues that werenât present when I loaded up the first set of 3.06 files. ? Roll back to 2.08 ( the 2.08 was still on an SD card so there was no need to download ) and apart from the much slower TOC, and compromised sound quality, my DMP works a treat: My problem with 2.08 only rears its ugly side when I connect my DMP to the network, but when disconnected from the net, my DMP works excellently⌠This might explain to some why I am unhappy ⌠then get exasperated and annoyed by being told to stop âbitchingâ about nothing.
Question: why is there so many different aspects/permutations to the quirkiness presented from one DMP to the next DMP ?
This is why I have serious reservations about total DMP perfection. Paul said it will definitely happen over the next few months so I can only take him at his word , just a case of waiting it out to see . I donât want to fall out with anybody. I donât think I more important that any other member. But I donât want to be preached to. I just want what I paid ÂŁ6000 for it is as simple as that. There isnât any special deals, trade-in or otherwise in the UK, just hard cash. I will give it to the final code and if my DMP still doesnât work I will home dem the Esoteric oddeophile recommended ⌠Must say the photo of Brodricâs Esoteric looked the part.
Anyway, thatâs jumping ahead, could there be corruption occurring with the flash during the card install within the DMP - a glitch during the loading procedure that buggers up some DMP players which then struggle to, or simply canât be overcome ? I know how to load files. I always close it off before I pull the card reader. The cards are brand-new and formatted. So there is nothing more that I can do other than repeat the procedure, rolling back, rebooting, etc, etc ad nausea ⌠Regardless of how excellent the final code may well be written, if there is a problem getting the files loaded into the DMP, I /we are still stuffedâŚ
âQuestion: why is there so many different aspects/permutations to the quirkiness presented from one DMP to the next DMP ?â
I am unable to sort out the percentage of that, vs. Reality. I suspect no one else, including PS Audio, can do so. Too many people posting random stuff - âFocus Groups of Oneâ.
I can only load the final files and if I am at the Zenith of happiness I am there but if itâs nadirâŚâŚ. out goes the DMP. nada, done, finished.
How many âdifferent aspects/âŚâ I would say that this forum represents a tiny fraction of the users out there, and of the total forum, the number of people on this string reporting âdifferent aspects/âŚâ is vanishingly small. So even if you could sort out a percentage, it would be totally useless from a statistical/scientific aspect. Tail of the elephant?
As you should. Jettison the thing.
I find all sides to any issue on this site can get obnoxiously preachy. Thus the universal request to keep it toned down and respectful.
Given the number of DMPs in the wild (and DSDs, etc.), and relatively few post with problems loading firmware, I suspect most do not have an issue. We seem them because of this forum. But this does not diminish the legitimacy of the problems some have. Computers are frustrating in that some simply do not behave as the rest of their colleagues.
