Hey Donald forgot to say that if Al should get the SR Master for
his P20…(I think he has a P20) his bunnies will go from moving
around to dancing with the music

Donald …wonder if Al’s system was up to such a task as evaluatiing the SR Master
fuse…do you think he might?

We might have a long wait…

Al’s system is so up there, I have no doubt that the fuse may have less effect on his.

Fuse has bewildered me for some time too, and it could be a prime example of the Placebo effect. I could hear the difference among cables (including digitals) and power cords when replacing them back and forth. But…….

When I replaced the first Purple fuse, I loved its sound, and promptly purchased one additional. Then the AM M-1 fuse arrived. I briefly inserted the stock fuse back and found it did not suck. After I put in the M-1, it sounded clearly better than the stock. So, I bought another M-1 fuse. I loved the sound with two Purples and two M-1 in the system.

When I ordered the Master fuse, I sold my M-1 promptly. I put back the stock fuse again and I was shocked how good the sound was. In fact, the best SQ I experienced was when the stock fuse has been in the system for two days, and after the FW 198 was updated in MK2 for a few hours. The sound was simply incredible at that night. Was it from the FW update, the stock fuse, or both?

That feeling was gone when the Master fuse was installed. My earlier posts indicate that I was disappointed at first. Now it has 4 days in my system, the sound was again incredible. But was it better than that “best night”? I do not know. I will give Master a few more weeks to break in. After my Asia trip, I must put back to stock fuse to compare.

Al could be right all along that fuses are voodoo tricks, I hope this time Master will be a clear winner.

Donald, I’ll venture the reality is probably somewhere in the middle. Maybe not as jaw droppingly extreme as it is sometimes portrayed, maybe not “nothing” either. My wife, who God love her doesn’t know a fuse from a fig, had no clue what I was doing (and had no preconditioning from me) when I asked her to take center seat and listen to her favorite tunes while I ran the P20 with one fuse then another. She could describe the difference in what she heard in ways that sounded very similar to my own privately held opinion. So something is happening, but maybe not quite so Earth shattering.

Was giving Al a teasing I know his system is top shelf…and with the level of gear
that Al has the SR Master should do even better…just thinking that all the current
going into our gear flows through a tiny melt wire in a casing…and it should follow
that if the meltwire and casing could be improved that the restriction to the current
flowing in to our gear would be less restricted. Thus an amp could more readly flow
with the demands made by the music from the sublime tiniest to the big blasts of
the FFF in music..

I view this as taking a stock gas engine, upgrading the upper and lower fuel air intakes
and add mandrel bent headers with high flow exhaust…same stock block, but much
better response…again my .00002

They do sound different, especially when first replacing them. The part confused me it that after running them for a few weeks or montths, they seem all sound nice.

I want to say I do believe fuses make a difference! The Master fuse is clearly better than others, I have a feeling I will not be bewildered anymore. My wife even said it does sound quite good!

It has a more vivid, yet smooth and warming presentation that no other fuses could produce. However, going back to the stock fuse is the sure way to confirm.

You should buy a SR Master fuse to celebrate your cake day!

I have found that a lot of how great a system sounds at any one point must have something to do with your brain or mood or both? and how receptive they happen to be at the time? All I know is at times during a listening session I will be downright giddy and think there’s no way this system could sound any better and then the next time I’m disappointed because that glorious sound appears to be gone :^ /

Knowing exactly what you are saying…but for me with my P15
and various other upgrades…thankfully thank God those up down
times are over and have been for quite some time

That is an excellent point! Some of my best listening sessions were always at night, and usually after a couple of glasses of delicious old wine. That has never failed. But Master fuse seems to bring more great moments in daytime too.

It has been raining and windy all day, but my system is not affected. I have a nice bottle of wine ready, and I am expecting a great night of music to come. :man_dancing:

Ya know, maybe I should. Despite all my jawboning about the vagaries off the fuse, I still think the good ones (usually the costlier ones) make a difference. Like @dchang05, I have upgraded components and cables along with the fuse-go-round, and it is hard know if everything is settled in and I am getting what the fuse has done. Taking a break, getting a baseline, might get my system, and my head, right.

Hey straightwire, getting the baseline on a system before changing anything
is the best way to ascertain a particular upgrade makes a difference if any…

Here you will find my experience with the new SR Master posts in my previous
posts…

So now with just over 72 hours burn in time…

Sound stage continues to impress and so far none of the burn in
frustrations as with the SR Purple…

This is one amazing album…From Kevin Eubank’s guitar to Branford Marsalis
on tenor sax with Danny Ray alias Big Black on the Tumba Conga drums…wow

Impressive Tumba drum texture from hand slaps on the skin with many textures
and Tumba rim shots that arch across around behind the speakers that appear
from far left to over and around far right with Danny Ray’s skilled texture playing,
follow by a snap of Kevin Eubank’s guitar string zowie wow…

Have heard this album many many times since purchasing it in the mid 80s.

Trevor Pinnock’s Vivaldi’s English Concert is another stunner…in previous set ups
Trevor Pinnock’s clavier hidden somewhat…but with the SR Master fuse the clavier
though placed toward the back of the ensemble is very apparent, distinct in the background.
Well worth acquiring.

th-2877093636

Leopold Mozart Conceri da Caccia imagery of a hunt through the woods
from musket fire to hounds braying and running off in the distance…

The amazing blatt of the french horns on track 5
Suites de Symphonies: Second Suite…another wow…

It seems then that the SR Master is panning out to be the real deal…

So for now best wishes everyone!!

Okay so now at the 216 hour mark…

Sound quality just gets better, let me describe what I am hearing:
In Trevor Pinnock’s Vivaldi L’Estro Armonico English Concert…
The live air reflections of instruments in space is even more refined
than at the 160 hour mark better body while maintaining the string’s
vibrancy with rich texrures as each of the English Concerrt’s ensemble
instruments plays off another…while this is happening Trevor Pinnock’s
Clavecin, Clavicembalo while playing to rear of the Ensemble…is quiet yet
distinct with strings chord’s play with body and impact if one could call it such.
The Concert’s ensemble stings carry a surprising amount of weight.

What I am hearing now is far more advanced and refined that any other
time with previous fuses. Keeping my gear the same throughout.

Now comes this amazing work of art:
This album brings with it a libreto relaying the story of how this recording came together.
To fully appreciate this work the libreto is necessary given the many parts played
by Wynton Marsalis.

The recording venue is St. Barnabas Church in North London in February 1987.
In the last track Heinrich Von Biber’s Sonata for 8 Trumpets and Orchestra,
Wynton Plays all 8 parts of the 2 distant groups. Each distant group contains
4 trumpet sections all played by Wynton Marsalis. For the 2 present groups again
Wynton played each part.

A very technological complex process of recording and musicianship took place
to bring all this together.

So how does this sound…each intended section of trumpets present and distance
are superb must get to hear to understand…
Toward the end of track 8 the string bass shows up as delicately plucked
strings (to my ears anyway)…
Not enough could be said of how this sounds!!
How could they capture all this really needs the accompanying libretto.

Best wishes everyone

A summary of how I hear the various fuse as always ymmv.

Ok guys…at just over 144 hours burn time on the SR Master
What waymancen has said about the SR Master is my same
experience…

So comparing the SR Purple, AM M1 and even the HiFi Tuning Supreme3

1st place Excelllence is the SR Master with outstanding extensions in all frequencies
bass tight well defined yet with good body, the mids are clearly better defined
with body, the highs oh my …the attack (appearance initial onset) decay
as a vapor long lasting. Waymanchen nailed it it in his description

2nd place Hard to place either AM M1 or Sr Purple here as both do very very well in these
categories just different characterizations of music…none detrimental.
While switching back and forth between the SR Purple and the AM M1 fuses
it seemed that the SR Purple might have slightly better snap with bone
and in some cases it seemed the AM M1 would be better…

3rd place The HiFi Tuning Supreme3 has a wonderful warm golden yet detailed
with extension…very pleasing easy to enjoy sound…but not in the same
level of character as the AM M1, SR Purple let alone the new SR Master fuse.

So it comes down to preferences and how much more would you like to spend on
your system to enjoy re-discovering your music is highly personal to each one.

So this next section is for you luca…

Keeping the SR Master in my P15 and switching out the SR Purple for the AM M1
fuse what I hear are richer overtones but with good definition of strings…with extension
and air the 2 fuses are different in what they present. The SR Purple gives you more
bone individual piano string vibrations, textures with some body with very good extensions
while the AM M1 gives a fuller warmer quality with piano string vibration textures…
hf extension can go either way between the two…

I think you have the Sonus Faber (I forget the model type) perhaps with your
Sonus Faber the Sr Purples in your amp or front ends couple with the new SR
Master in your P15 might just be the ticket…(my .00002) as from my understanding
the Sonus Faber are a warm and romantic sound quality.

Hope this helps you luca and everyone as well

Best wishes to all

That’s what you call an excellent timeline assessment, David. :+1: By any chance did you try to drop the stock fuse back in after all this time just to see what would happen? I heard the change when I dropped back from the M-1. Just curious.

Tony22 …I have been enjoying my system so much now …haven’t given this a
try as of yet…But I will soon…for I am curious myself
Thanks for asking

I have been taking a break from the music side of my system after hearing your master fuse lack luster review and others with track switching noises with MK2 Antero 198. . I let bacch-dsp burn in further not listening while just streaming movies.

Tonight I switched on Bacch-DSP music. Just saying. OMG I am not suffering with 4 M-1 fuses an not having to Master-debate a $600 SR fuse purchase to justify further musical self- gratification.

Bacch-DSP is adding so much goodness there hasn’t been one review of the Master that has convinced me I am missing anything in my music presentation I am already hearing.

I just wish you still had the M-1 you sold to slide back in to judge if the master makes the M-1 a disaster.

I feel I might buy more room treatment next and wait for the April Antero release.

Until then I am running with audiophile scissors cutting my fuse bill like @aangen

Haha, I once learned how to step back and just enjoyed the music. Before the fuses and tweaks, before the cable and power cord upgrades, even before MK2 and streamer, I was very happy with my system. My system never sounded bad before, and I am sure it sounded better now.

The nature of this hobby can easily become a dangerous addiction because no one ever get there. You have to decide how good is good enough. I know I am getting closer, except there seems to be another piece that I need. Now I think of it, I need a streamer, another AQ Dragon or two, a new set of speakers, and … Darn, forget what I said about another piece then.

Luca knows exactly how I felt.

I think before I consider another fuse decision I will wait for the next MK2 firmware that doesn’t phhht between roon streamed songs. Once that is in I will try back AM SHD fuse that was too hot in the highs for the Antero firmware and see if I like that or M-1 better. Right now the listenability flow and details of every song is perfect. When in the listening room the voices are at ease like they’re unamplified. I can hear all the instruments and performance space acoustics plus the bass is well defined. I find I never have to ride the volume control as nothing gets acoustically out of balance and seem like it needs a volume adjustment between sources. Plus lyrics are sounding exactly the words as Roon is scrolling them. I am not thinking the vocalist said something else. Just perfect diction and consonant expression. I am chalking the change up to Bacch-dsp.

On the grand scheme of things, fuse is still making a minor improvement or just a sound change. I have said from a few posts here that even the stock fuse sounded great after a few days in the system. M-1, Purple, and stock fuses are sounding different, but all sounded great! However, as you experienced, that different fuse will change the sound balance that requires adjustments and tweaking. So, in that sense the stock one maybe the correct one to use.

Crazy price aside, the Master fuse is the most balanced and correct sounding fuse I have heard. The only reason I bought it was because I had some fat credit with the Cable Co. I am not encouraging anyone to pay the asking price for a fuse for sure.
