P20 - anyone planning to test the new SR purple fuse against their Ultimate Premier in a P15 or P20?

My HFT favorites were the Silver Star but they don’t make them any more plus even when they did they didn’t make them in an XT (extra slow blow) version. The 4 B+/B- fuses in my CA200 are Silver Star. The inrush on the CA200 causes most aftermarket fuses to pop but the Supreme3 XT can take it.

The extra slow must be a niche market. I would have gone up a slightly greater value. I’m amazed at the fuse values that people put in devices. I bought an Audio Research amp recently and it had a 7 amp fuse where the factory spec called for 10 amps.

Guess I could have but I was worried if I did. The mains fuse on the CA200 calls for a T6.3A. I should look to see what’s the next highest and if not too much higher it’s something to consider.

Hey Joe-appierto…

As I recall…you are right the Hi Fi Tuning Supreme3s burn in time
was short compared with the blues or oranges…

While the oranges give a degree or two more detail…the Supreme3s are
fuller bodied with very good bone and sting detail along with a very holographic
sound stage …I tend to prefer the Supreme3s

Best wishes

Good to know, thanks. When I first used HFT they were pretty much the only game in town and i stuck with them over the years.

I haven’t placed a Purple in my Powerplant, it has a new Orange in it. I did buy a new to me, Audio Research amp that had a wrong spec fuse installed. I bought a Purple fuse for it. Low and behold, it made an immediate improvement over the industrial fuse that was installed. Not that that, would have been difficult. The difference was almost transformational. However, I did remove all the tubes, wiped the pins, vacuumed the dust and tested 12 tubes to make sure all were at spec. Still way beyond my expectations.

I put a second purple fuse in my system tonight. I decided to place it in the HDPLEX300 that powers my matrix, UltraRendu, the i5sonictransporter, and 12V analog board of the DS. Everything did not go flat yet as it did initially in the P20. Everything noise floor iis super silent. But maybe attributable to the Dragon HDMI I received today too. I will remove one piece a a time after breaking in the fuse and new cable.

Great selections…!

Yes agree. Good way to test both ends of the performance spectrum.

I put a Purple in my DSD. Sounds good with no break-in. But is it better than the Orange or the HiFiTuning Supreme? I can’t tell. Unfortunately, unlike some people who can hear a squirrel pass gas in the yard at 60 feet. I have an old guy’s ears.

My wife swears that all she needs to say to get my attention is “audio” I’m deaf to all else.

Aah …selective hearing is it…hmmm…

Perhaps some therapy is indicated then for the relief of the
such symptoms… :innocent:

My Purple in P15 has started cooking, the sound is opening up and the soundstage is back. So far compared to Orange, the purple has even more details and a fuller sound. At the same volume, the Purple seems a bit louder, or it has a bit more energy in the mid. As good as Orange was, I always felt there seems to have some gaps between the voices and instruments in some recordings. Purple fills that gaps.

Is it better than Ultimate? If memory serves me right, Beewax Ultimate amazed me quite a bit when it was first installed in PST (it is not in DS as I remembered wrongly in previous comment). I think it may need less burning time because I thought it was very good within a day or two. But I am comparing apple and orange here because I never had it in the P15. Also, Purple was cooking for only three days, so it has a long way to go.

But I need to order another Purple to replace another Orange as soon as I finish here. Now I know what it does, I want to find out if two will do more.

Most important in my experience is to make the backwards test (especially when comparing different brands rather than growing levels of the same brand. We humans occasionally tend to persuade ourselves towards hearing things which sometimes turn, change or relativate after a switch back and forth

Glad to hear it is working put. I got my second purple cooking now too. My system has never sounded better. But both a Beeswax and HDPLEX300 fuse switch back is planned. As is my new HDMI cable. I have not been this enthralled in a system change since Iconoclast speaker and interconnect wiring changes.

You will really like the Dragon, but be patient with it. I have my AQ Firebird since June. I did a 100 hours comparison with my previous favorite, AQ Coffee HDMI. At that time I felt the Firebird was smoother and there was not a bit trace of brightness on the higher high. But the bass was not as punchy as the Coffee. Three months later I did another comparison, and this time I could not listen to Coffee for more than 5 minutes. It was trashed by Firebird.

So Purple + dragon will be your magic dragon for sure, enjoy!

I’ve had the purple in my DSD for a few days. It’s sound is certainly pleasant on the DSD but I’m not blown away that it’s that different from the Orange that I pulled. It’s very nice and staying but I’ll go Full on beeswax next time around.

It could very well be that the Purple has less improvement from Orange in your system. I had Orange in my DS and I was not sure if it had the same impact as in the power plant when I first put them in.
I am getting another Purple to put in my BHK preamp, it has an Orange in it also.

Today the Purple seems not as great as yesterday. May be my system has a tantrum now. But SR fuses has periods of up and down at beginning and will need a couple hundred hours (it is even stated in the instruction sheet).
